2000 SANTANA regained its heyday with the astronomical hit of “SUPERNATURAL”. The professional shot that symbolizes the performance in Japan is now available as the highest master.
This work was shot at “April 23, 2000: Tokyo International Forum Performance”. That multi-camera pro shot. Speaking of Tokyo in 2000, Eric Clapton’s jump-in incident is also memorable, and this week the masterpiece live album “OSAKA 2000 (Uxbridge 1576)” of the same tour will be released at the same time. The quality of this work is, roughly speaking, “completely official grade”. From the fact, it’s an air check in the analog era, but when I watch it, I forget about it. Beautiful coloring, vividness without bleeding, master freshness with no deterioration or noise … everything is like an official DVD. As a matter of fact, this program itself has been handled in our shop for a long time, and the gift board “TOKYO 2000 2ND NIGHT” has become a standard. However, after seeing this new master, the gift board that seemed so beautiful looks only sweet and fluffy.
However, only a limited number of people have experienced the gift board. Speaking of a more understandable comparison target, is a certain major video site good? This video has been uploaded only to the standard, but the image quality is flat because the video site version raises the highlights by digital processing. On the other hand, the vividness of this work can only be achieved by the precision of the recording situation and the master freshness, and the resolution and the natural feeling are exceptionally excellent.
What is drawn with such supernatural visual beauty is the great enthusiasm of SANTANA, who became a darling of the times again. This tour is symbolized by her official video “SUPERNATURAL LIVE”, but SANTANA at that time changed the set every day, and the set of this work is also different. そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2000年４月23日：東京国際フォーラム公演」。そのマルチカメラ・プロショットです。2000年の東京と言えば、エリック・クラプトンの飛び入り事件も思い出深く、今週は同じツアーの傑作ライヴアルバム『OSAKA 2000（Uxbridge 1576）』も同時リリース。その辺の事情を整理するためにも、まずは当時の日程からポジションを確かめておきましょう。

以上、全６公演。クラプトンが飛び入りしたのは最終日の日本武道館（当店の『BUDOKAN 2000（Zion-107）』でお楽しみ頂けます）でしたが、本作は序盤の２公演目です。このショウは某放送協会でTV放送された事でも知られ、その放送プロショットが大定番として君臨してきました。本作もまたそのTV放送プロショットであり、過去最高峰を更新する新マスター。当店ではコアな記録マニアによる極上マスターで数々の音楽番組をアーカイヴしており、本作はその最新弾なのです。
そんな本作のクオリティは、ざっくばらんに言って「完全オフィシャル級」。事実からすればアナログ時代のエアチェックなのですが、観ているとそれさえも忘れる。発色の美しさ、滲みのない鮮やかさ、劣化もノイズも皆無なマスター鮮度……すべてがオフィシャルDVDかのよう。実のところ、当店でも以前からこの番組自体は取り扱っており、ギフト盤『TOKYO 2000 2ND NIGHT』が定番となってきました。しかし、今回の新マスターを観た後では、あれだけ美しく思えたギフト盤も甘くふわっとした画質にしか見えないのです。
もっともギフト盤は限られた方しか体験していない。もっと分かりやすい比較対象と言えば、某大手動画サイトはいいでしょうか。この映像は定番だけにアップされていますが、動画サイト版はデジタル加工でムリヤリハイライトを上げているために画質はペタッと平板。それに対し、本作の鮮やかさは録画状況の精密さとマスター鮮度だけ成し得たものであり、解像度もナチュラル感も段違いに優れているのです。
そんなスーパーナチュラルな映像美で描かれるのは、再び時代の寵児となったSANTANAの大熱演。このツアーは公式映像『SUPERNATURAL LIVE』が象徴となっていますが、当時のSANTANAは毎日セットを変えており、本作のセットも似て非なるもの。ここで比較しながら整理してみましょう。
