The 2002 THE ROLLING STONES was on the “LICKS Tour” of the 40th anniversary of its formation. A masterpiece TV special that revives the scent of that era is a gift release decision.
This work contains the famous program “THE BEAT FILE” of a certain satellite broadcasting station. This is a DVD version of the Stones special feature. In our shop, we have archived many music programs with the highest quality with the cooperation of core recording enthusiasts, and this work is the latest bullet. The recently released “LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003” has also been very well received, but this work is also a sister work. There is only one special number recorded this time, but you can fully immerse yourself in the scent of 20 years ago for about 55 minutes.
In Western music, there are cases where overseas programs are translated into Japanese and broadcast, and cases where they are originally produced in Japan, but this work is the latter. “THE BEAT FILE” is a type that mainly plays clips, and there are no celebrities appearing, but the composition is unique to Japan. And this Stones special feature is composed of three parts. Let’s introduce each one individually.

● Part 1: “LICKS Tour” press conference (about 9 minutes)
The beginning is a press conference for the announcement of the “LICKS Tour” held in New York. I could see it in “LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003”, but here it is even longer. They appeared on an airship, and you can enjoy Charlie’s frightened episodes, enthusiasm for the tour, questions and answers, and even interviews after the interview with full Japanese subtitles.

● Part 2: Live clip (4 songs, about 22 minutes)
Introducing a press conference, the program went to the main performance scene. In the first half, we broadcast 4 songs selected from successive live videos. The selections are also not random, and are arranged in chronological order from 1981 Hampton to 1997 St. Louis. There is nothing rare in the video, but in the meantime, there is an original narration that introduces the meaning of the song and the show (the letters are posted in the following songs). Although it is a rush, the video itself is chronological, so it is a simple history tailoring.

● Part 3: Video clip (5 songs, about 25 minutes)
The last section is a video clip. Here, too, the style is to introduce familiar clips in chronological order and insert original narration in between. Here, too, the biography of the 70’s is told, but if anything, the story of the set list will increase. I won’t say it clearly, but perhaps the staff in charge of the composition had in mind the fourth Japan tour that would be realized. Even if you hold it down, the expectation that leaks out will ooze out from the screen and narration.

Again, it basically utilizes familiar images, and it is not as shocking as “LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003”. However, the selection, original comments, and the sense of editing exude a sense of the times when the “LICKS Tour” was enthusiastic. And above all, it is a special video program that allows you to be immersed in Stones for an hour with the highest quality. It is indispensable as a history collection of core collectors, and it can be seen as a sequel to “LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003”, or it can be played as a BGV of daily life. One piece that you can enjoy anyway. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

1. Introduction
★ “THE ROLLING STONES”. 1962 Started playing at a club in London with the group name “Rolling Stone” by Muddy Waters, a major blues player. He made his record debut in 1963. In 1965, he became a stardom with the worldwide blockbuster of “Satisfaction”. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood, four-person rock masters with an average age of 58.25 continue to roll at the top of the scene today.

★ They have pushed their activities as a live band to the front even before their debut. That attitude has not changed even now. Today, I would like to send you a number of such live scenes from Stones.

4. Satisfaction
(Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA, USA 18th December 1981)
★ Stones’ biggest hit song “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” from the American tour in 1981. The appearance of Mr. Richards, who is full of spirit, is symbolized by the scene where he tried to hit an enthusiastic man who invaded the stage with a guitar. The tour can be seen in the live album “STILL LIFE” and the movie “Let’s Spend the Night Together” directed by Hal Ashby.

5. Ruby Tuesday
(Wembley Stadium, London, UK 25th August 1990)
★ After the European Tour in 1982, Mick Jagger devoted himself to soloing, so Stones suspended concert activities as a group for 6 years. In 1989, they fully resumed their activities with the new album. In 1990, the first performance in Japan that I had dreamed of was realized. The “Ruby Tuesday” I introduced can be said to be one of the three major ballads of the Stones 1960s.

6. Jumping Jack Flash
(Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan 12 March 1995)
★ “Jumping Jack Flash” which made fans enthusiastic as an encore song from “VOODOO LOUNGE Tour” from 1994 to 1995. In the latter half of the 1960s, there was a time when fans were wondering if they would transform into a psychedelic band. It was this “Jumping Jack Flash” that revived in the mainstream of rock and roll in 1968. Since then, it has become an indispensable song for Stones Live.

★ In 1971, Stones established his own label, ROLLING STONES RECORDS. Mick Taylor has been playing guitar with Keith since 1969 on behalf of Brian Jones at the time. Taylor also left the group in 1974. And in 1976, former FACES Ronnie Wood joined the Stones and continues to this day. In the 1970s, the biggest tragedy for Japanese fans was the cancellation of their visit to Japan just before the concert in 1973.

10. Waiting On A Friend (1981)
★ Clip “Waiting On A Friend” taken at Greenwich Village and St. Marks Bar in New York on July 2, 1981. This song was recorded on the album “TATTOO YOU” released in August of the same year. It was added to the set list on the American tour that year.

11. Like A Rolling Stone (1995)
★ Bob Dylan’s masterpiece “Like A Rolling Stone” added to the set list from “VOODOO LOUNGE Tour”. In the live “BRIDGES TO BABYLON Tour” from 1997 to 1998, Dylan himself, who had been interacting with them since the 1960s, sometimes appeared as a guest.

★ “THE BEAT FILE; THE ROLLING STONES”. Finally, let’s say goodbye to the acoustic version “Wild Horses” recorded in the studio at Toshiba EMI University in Tameike, Tokyo by Stones who came to Japan for the “VOODOO LOUNGE Tour” in March 1995.
12. Wild Horses (1995)

結成40周年の“LICKS Tour”に沸いていた2002年のTHE ROLLING STONES。あの時代の薫りが甦る傑作TV特番がギフト・リリース決定です。
そんな本作に収められているのは、某衛星放送局の名物番組“THE BEAT FILE”。そのストーンズ特集をDVD化したものです。当店ではコアな記録マニアにご協力頂いて数々の音楽番組を最高峰クオリティでアーカイヴしており、本作はその最新弾。先日リリースされた『LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003』も大好評を賜っておりますが、本作はその姉妹作でもある。今回収録されている特番は１つだけですが、約55分に渡って20年前の薫りにたっぷりと浸りきれるのです。
洋楽では海外番組を日本語訳して放送するケースと日本で独自制作されたものに分かれますが、本作は後者。“THE BEAT FILE”はクリップをメインに流すタイプで著名人などの出演はありませんが、構成は日本独自です。そして、今回のストーンズ特集は大きく３部構成。それぞれ、個別にご紹介していきましょう。

●第一部：“LICKS Tour”記者会見（約９分）
冒頭を飾るのは、ニューヨークで開かれた“LICKS Tour”発表の記者会見。『LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003』でも見ることができましたが、ここではさらに長尺。彼らは飛行船に乗って登場したのですが、その際にチャーリーがびびったエピソードやツアーへの意気込み、質疑応答、さらには会見後のインタビューまで完全日本語字幕付きで楽しめます。

●第二部：ライヴクリップ（４曲・約22分）
記者会見を導入として、番組はメインの演奏シーンへ。前半は歴代のライヴ映像から選りすぐった４曲を放送しています。セレクトもランダムではなく、1981年ハンプトンから1997年セントルイスまで時系列で並べられている。映像的にレアなものはありませんが、合間合間には楽曲やショウの意味合いを紹介する独自ナレーションが入る（下記曲目に文字を腰を掲載しました）。さすがに駆け足ではあるものの、映像自体が時系列なこともあって、簡単なヒストリー仕立てになっているのです。

●第三部：ビデオクリップ（５曲・約25分）
最後のセクションはビデオ・クリップ。ここでもお馴染みのクリップを時系列で紹介しつつ、合間に独自ナレーションを挿入するスタイル。ここでも70年代の略歴が語られますが、どちらかというとセットリストの話が多くなってくる。ハッキリと明言はしませんが、恐らく構成を担当したスタッフは実現するであろう四度目のジャパン・ツアーが念頭にあったのではないでしょうか。抑えても漏れ出る期待感が画面やナレーションから滲み出てくるのです。

繰り返しになりますが、基本的にはお馴染みの映像を活用しており、『LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003』ほどの衝撃的な内容ではありません。しかし、そのセレクトや独自コメント、編集センスの端々から“LICKS Tour”に沸いていた時代感が染み出してくる。そして何より、極上クオリティで１時間しっかりストーンズ漬けになれる映像特番なのです。コア・コレクターの歴史コレクションとしても欠かせませんし、『LICKS: JAPANESE TV SPECIALS 2003』の続篇としてみても、無心に生活のBGVとして流しても良い感じ。いかようにも楽しめる１枚。どうぞ、心ゆくまでご堪能ください。

4. Satisfaction
(Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA, USA 18th December 1981)
★　81年のアメリカン・ツアーからストーンズ最大のヒット曲「(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction」。まさに気骨溢れるMr.リチャーズの姿は、ステージに侵入した熱狂的な男をギターで殴りつけようとしたシーンに象徴される。このツアーの模様はライヴアルバムの『STILL LIFE』やハル・アシュビー監督作品の映画『レッツ・スペンド・ザ・ナイト・トゥゲザー』でもうかがえる。

5. Ruby Tuesday
(Wembley Stadium, London, UK 25th August 1990)
★　82年のヨーロピアン・ツアー後、ミック・ジャガーがソロに専念したあまりにストーンズはグループとしてのコンサート活動を６年間休止。89年、彼らは満を持してニューアルバムと共に活動を再開する。90年には夢にまで見た初の日本公演も実現。ご紹介した「Ruby Tuesday」は、ストーンズ60年代における三大バラードのひとつと言えよう。

6. Jumping Jack Flash
(Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan 12 March 1995)
★　94年から95年にかけての“VOODOO LOUNGE Tour”からアンコール曲としてファンを熱狂させた「Jumping Jack Flash」。60年代後半にはサイケデリック・バンドに変身するのではないかとファンをやきもきさせる時期もあった。68年にロックンロールのメイン・ストリームに甦るキッカケとなったのが、この「Jumping Jack Flash」。以来、ストーンズ・ライヴには欠かせない楽曲となった。

★　71年ストーンズは自らのレーベルROLLING STONES RECORDSを設立。当時ブライアン・ジョーンズに代わって69年以来ミック・テイラーがキースと共にギターを担当。そのテイラーも74年にはグループを脱退。そして76年に元FACESのロニー・ウッドがストーンズに加わり、現在に至る。そんな70年代、日本のファンにとって最大の悲劇は73年のコンサート直前の来日中止であった。

10. Waiting On A Friend (1981)
★　81年７月２日にニューヨークのグリニッジ・ヴィレッジとセントマークス・バーで撮影されたクリップ「Waiting On A Friend」。この曲は同じ年の８月にリリースされたアルバム『TATTOO YOU』に収録。同年のアメリカン・ツアーではセットリストにも加えられた。

11. Like A Rolling Stone (1995)
★　“VOODOO LOUNGE Tour”からセットリストに加えられたボブ・ディランの名曲「Like A Rolling Stone」。97年から98年のライヴ“BRIDGES TO BABYLON Tour”でも60年代から彼らと交流のあったディラン自らがゲスト出演することもあった。

★　“THE BEAT FILE; THE ROLLING STONES”。最後は95年３月、“VOODOO LOUNGE Tour”のために来日したストーンズが東京溜池の東芝EMI大にスタジオでレコーディングしたアコースティック・バージョン「Wild Horses」でお別れしよう。
