そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2021年10月14日：イングルウッド公演」。“SoFiスタジアム”２連続公演の初日でキール腐れた極上オーディエンス録音です。本稿に目を留められた方ならご存知とは思いますが、現行の“NO FILTER Tour”は映像は恵まれているものの、録音が厳しいという珍しい事態。全世界が固唾を飲んだ初日セントルイス公演こそ傑作録音が飛び出しましたが、その後は一気に沈静化。新型コロナ禍の影響か、ヨーロッパ系テーパーが会場入りできずに録音が激減している。その乾きは世界中に広がり、音の悪い生中継音源や１曲ずつツギハギした編集盤まで珍重されるようになっています。
しかし、その状況も少しずつ改善。先日は４公演目の極上プレス・アルバム『NASHVILLE 2021』も大好評を博しました。本作は、そんなナッシュヴィルに続く「５公演目にして３本目の傑作」とでも呼べる一気貫通・極上サウンドのフル録音なのです。
実際、本作は流れ出る音の良さだけで胸がすく。何よりも素晴らしいのはオンで力強く、距離を感じさせない芯。ギターもピアノもドラムも、そしてミックのヴォーカルも超克明。ヘッドフォンで聴いてもホール鳴り成分がうっすらと透き通り、芯に艶とスペクタクルを与こそすれ、ディテールを微塵も隠さない。時折、間近客の声援も聞こえるのでオーディエンス録音らしさを忘れることはありませんが、聴き応えはまるでFM放送かのようです。
ただし、完全無欠ではありませんでした。「Start Me Up」でひときわ大きな声が入ったかと思うと、その後音質が急に悪くなる。実はこれ、テーパーがビールか何かで濡れた床に足を滑らせたのです。それも盛大にすっ転んだらしく、周囲からは「大丈夫か？」と話しかけられ、マイクがあらぬ方向へ落ちてしまう。もちろん、テーパーはすぐに座席に座ってセッティングを整えたようですが、それでも約１分間はサウンドが落ち込む。何とも惜しい！名録音であり、そんなトラブルがリアルな臨場感も醸してくれたりもするのです。
そんな「ほぼほぼ極上」サウンドで描かれるのは、ツアー５公演目にして初登場曲も美味しいフルショウ。ここで最新データを元にセットを整理しておきましょう。
