The difference is easy to understand in the finish that praises the natural feeling, and yet it was sold out in a short time after its release because it was also a standard sound source in the standard. In the release at that time, it’s a classic strength again! I was made aware of it. At the same time as being such a popular item, it is natural that re-release was craving for a masterpiece that was sold out in a short period of time.

It was the familiar Graf Zeppelin who supervised this version, which is the long-awaited re-release. Not only the natural feeling that was already well-established at the time of release in 2019, but also the recording at an accurate pitch was highly evaluated, but in this re-release, the subtle sound fluctuation that is common in vintage sound sources Thoroughly adjust. 幻に終わってしまった73年のローリング・ストーンズ初来日公演の代わりに同時期の彼らのステージの躍動を伝えてくれた、文字通りの古典と呼べる音源がハワイはホノルルで行われた1月22日のファースト・ショー。あのウイリアム・スタウトによるイラストジャケも印象的なTMOQの名盤を皮切りとして何度もリリースされ続けてきた名音源でもある。LPでは収録時間の制約からいくつかの曲がカットされていましたが、CD時代に入ると本音源は完全収録へとバージョンアップ。さらにいくつものタイトルが生み出され続けたほど親しまれた73年ウインター・ツアーの定番でしょう。
そんなエバーグリーン・オーディエンスもここ数年は現行アイテムの数が減ってしまい、2019年になって改めてナチュラルな収録を心掛けて出されたのが「IN EXOTIC HONOLULU」。本音源もCD時代を迎えてからは大なり小なりイコライズを加えられたアイテムが乱立した感は否めず、だからこそ音源本来の良さを蘇らせるべくリリースされたのが本タイトルでした。
そのナチュラル感をたたえた仕上がりは違いが解りやすく、それでいて定番中の定番音源でもあったことからリリース後あっという間に売り切れてしまったという。あの時のリリースでは改めて定番強し！と思い知らされたものです。そんな人気アイテムであると同時に、短期間で売り切れてしまった名盤ともなれば再リリースが渇望されたのも当然のことかと。

それだけに待望の再リリースとなる今回のバージョンの監修に当たってくれたのはおなじみGraf Zeppelin。既に2019年のリリース時点においても定評のあったナチュラル感あふれる状態はもちろん、正確なピッチでの収録なども高く評価された訳ですが、今回の再リリースに当たってはビンテージ音源にありがちな微妙な音揺れを徹底的にアジャスト。前回のバージョンをお持ちの方には是非とも聞き比べていただきたいのですが、例えば「Sweet Virginia」のイントロや続くミックのブルースハープの音が微妙に揺れていて、それが気になりだすと聞いていて酔ってしまいそうなほどでした。
このビンテージ音源らしい不安定さ（いわゆるワウフラ）が見事に一掃されており、ただでさえホノルル1月22日ファースト・ショーのベストという呼び声の高かった名盤の再発に際して最後の一手が加えられた形となったのです。音源全体のピッチだけでなく、演奏のディティールにまで及んでいた問題を解消してみせたということ。

前回のリリースによって非常にナチュラルな状態で収録された結果、ただでさえハワイの陽気な雰囲気を漂わせた大らかな演奏ぶりがより際立つ結果となったのも魅力でした。このツアーがオーストラリアに移るとPAアウトのサウンドボードの発掘ラッシュとなり、そのダイレクト感あふれた録音状態が極めて印象的な音源が数多く存在する訳ですが、こちらは対照的に距離感のあるステレオ・オーディエンスであり、その絶妙とも言える音像の距離がダイレクトなオーストラリア音源にはない演奏の魅力をたっぷりと伝えてくれる。
それはちょうどロックンロール・ダイナマイトたる前年のアメリカ・ツアーと70年代ストーンズの頂点とも言えたヨーロッパ73の架け橋という言葉がぴったり当てはまる独特な演奏。つまり鋭さと大らかさを兼ね備えた、正にこの時期だけの演奏の魅力をリアルに捉えた音質もまた人気の秘密だったように思えてなりません。
そうしたホノルルらしい陽気な雰囲気の中、突如として披露されたシンプルでストレートなアレンジの「It’s All Over Now」は正にこのハワイでの日々を象徴するレパートリー。既にウインター・ツアーの幕開けとなった「ALL MEAT MUSIC」ことLAフォーラムでも同曲が披露されていたものの、それとは全く違うアレンジ。よく指摘されるように、まるで「It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll」を予見させるようなストレートなアレンジで、パッと聞いた感じでは別の曲かと錯覚しそうになるほど原曲のイメージを崩したもの。
一方で「Rocks Off」に「Sweet Virginia」といった前年の忘れ形見がセットリストに残されているのもこの時期ならではの構成。この73年ウインター・ツアーというのは同じ陽気な土地で行われたライブ、おまけに同じツアーでありながらハワイとオーストラリアで雰囲気がまるで違うというのも魅力の秘訣。そんな前者を代表する1月22日ファースト・ショーが単なる再発ではなくベスト・バージョンを刷新！
