Live at Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan 6th March 1995

It may seem surprising, but while the Rolling Stones’ 1995 performance in Japan produced only those items in the rear tie, they are now all difficult to obtain. In addition, at that time, because of the “faster than quality” bubbly, it seemed as if we were competing for the earliest release after the performance, and of course the sound quality was sacrificed. Furthermore, only the items recorded in the Tokyo Dome in 1995, which were suffering from echo and a sense of distance, were released. Nowadays, there are many things that make us feel the times in terms of quality, and it is not enough to rush to find them.
In addition to such a situation, the definitive edition will automatically appear when the performance on March 12 is televised, and the audience recording items of this tour will naturally be neglected. As a result, in spite of the fact that so many items were produced in the rear tie, the Tokyo Dome performance, which was not released on the other hand, was left unattended. The famous performance released almost 30 years after that was “TOKYO DOME 1995 5TH NIGHT: DAT MASTER”.
Taper provided the audience recording that was the source of this shocking release, but fortunately he also recorded other performances at Tokyo Dome in 1995. That is also the beginning of the tour.
Originally, the “VOODOO LOUNGE” tour delighted enthusiasts with its daily repertoire on each stage, but when they arrived in 1995, they were excited at the studio in Tokyo instead of performing live immediately. An unplugged-style session was held, which later evolved into “STRIPPED”. Not only that, a new attempt was introduced to set up an acoustic corner in the set list when the Tokyo Dome performance began.
However, the acoustic corner itself was introduced at the time of the TV broadcast from Miami the previous year, but unlike that that was supposed to be broadcast on TV, the acoustic corner was expanded to two songs on the tour regular stage. It was the first day of the Tokyo Dome. There must have been a lot of enthusiasts who had prepared for Miami from VHS that had already been distributed up to this point, so tears at the moment when “Sweet Virginia” was unveiled just as the reproduction of Miami on the first day of Tokyo Dome. I think there were a lot of enthusiasts.
“Angie” played before this song was a very good performance when I heard it again, but in 1997 it was officially released in the form of a Japan-only bonus track with the new album “BRIDGES TO BABYLON”. But why did you have a live take of the 1995 performance in Japan for your new album? As long as I feel nostalgic now, it made me feel strange.
It was the first appearance of the audience recording on the first day of the Tokyo Dome performance in 1995, but the taper of “TOKYO DOME 1995 5TH NIGHT: DAT MASTER” is also excellent quality this time. It was just a recording made from the Arena A block, and I could be sure of the closeness of the sound image just by listening to the sound of the opening SE “Gongon”. Of particular note is the vivid proximity of Charlie’s drums. Especially when it comes to the vividness of the hi-hats carved around “Miss You” and “Sympathy For The Devil”. You will often be groaned at the 1995 Tokyo Dome for capturing such sounds.
Also, his drumming that can be heard with up-tempo songs such as “Live With Me” and “Satisfaction” is also impressive. This is now a rather valuable balanced recording. On the other hand, there is a feeling that Mick’s singing voice is being pushed to the back, but it will disappear as the live progresses.
And like the first day of the Japan tour, it was a careful performance centered on Mick. It is also attractive that this is transmitted firmly because it has high sound quality. It’s funny that his MC, which is emitted between the songs, talks to me much more politely than on March 12th, which was broadcast on TV in a situation where he has become accustomed to it. Of course, “Tsukare Hateta, Keith Richards!”, Which became an immortal phrase when he came to Japan at that time, also appeared immediately.
“Satisfaction” is a happening intro that starts with Keith’s volume rising in a hurry from deafening noise, and even “I Go Wild” that starts after Keith gets used to it lightly before Chuck Leavell’s count starts. From the enthusiasts who are accustomed to seeing the video on March 12, I think it feels quite fresh.
And the sound source this time is not only the sound image but also the level of the noise around the whole is low, which is also easy to hear, which is different from the rear tie items that I first touched on, but when the Keith corner starts It’s funny that the surroundings suddenly become lively. He himself may have been excited by the great cheers that he couldn’t think of in the United States, which can be seen in the song “Before They Make Me Run”. Furthermore, before the encore, it is also funny to hear voices such as “It’s good at all!” And “Saikou” in the surroundings.
There are many enthusiasts who have never heard of it because it has become difficult to obtain rear tie items. It is the first day of Tokyo Dome in 1995, but the first appearance audience recording that can become a new standard in place of past items is released on a limited press CD!
