Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck in the 80’s who warmed up with “CAMOUFLAGE” and “FLASH”. Introducing a sound board album where you can enjoy the miraculous stage where both males line up.
Included in this work is the stereo sound board recording of “July 8, 1984 Seattle Performance”. The two men, who made guest appearances on each other’s albums and performed together again for the first time in 15 years, also performed live together. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s take a bird’s eye view of the series of events related to “CAMOUFLAGE” and “FLASH” from the schedule of the rod.

This is Rod Stewart in 1984/1985. Jeff did not tour at this time, but Rod vigorously carried out a world tour. The Seattle performance of this work was the 5th performance of the “North America” leg, which is the beginning of it.
This show is also known for the fact that the soundboard was left behind, and it is also a symbol of Rod & Jeff’s re-co-starring. This work is the highest peak board that refined the best master. Even if you say “sound board” in one word, there are various types, but this work is directly connected to the mix desk. A loud cheer is captured like a distant whisper, and instead, a thick performance sound is poured into the brain at zero distance. To be honest, the mix is rough to call it “completely official!” The vocalist seems to be breathing in his inner ear, and he is attacked by a different dimension of immersion, like a guitar string vibrating in his head.
Moreover, this work is the highest peak update board of such a classic sound board. The balance of each range is improved, not to mention the accurate, crisp and stable pitch. In particular, the high frequencies, which had been a little clogged, became stronger, but with this, the contours were clearly felt, and the feeling of omission and separation became vivid. The direct feeling of the directly connected sound board, which was originally intense, has become vivid.
A dream stage where the two men line up side by side is depicted with such a high-class direct sound. The live is roughly divided into three parts, “first half = rod solo”, “second half = co-starring with Jeff”, and “encore = rod solo again”. Let’s organize the contents of each here.

… and it looks like this. In this work, “DISC 1 = Rod’s solo” and “DISC 2 = Co-starring with Jeff/Encore”. The full story is a perfect score to listen to, but the highlight is probably “co-starring with Jeff”. Six songs were performed, and the two men overlapped the sounds in five songs other than the instrumental “The Pump”. In addition to the symbolic song “People Get Read”, they also performed “Rock My Plimsoul” and “I Ain’t Superstitious”, which once moved rock history. Anyone else can sympathize with the singing voice of the passion that even Paul Rodgers longed for with the selfish guitar. Is “Infatuation” and “Bad For You” particularly valuable among all the songs that are close to the heart? Jeff and Rod co-starred again in 2019 (you can enjoy it at our “HOLLYWOOD BOWL 2019 (Uxbridge 1129)”), but “Infatuation” and “Bad For You” were not played there. It is a valuable co-star just because it is 1984.

『CAMOUFLAGE』『FLASH』で旧交を温めた80年代のロッド・スチュワートとジェフ・ベック。両雄が並び立つ奇跡のステージを楽しめるサウンドボード・アルバムが登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは「1984年７月８日シアトル公演」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。互いのアルバムにゲスト参加して15年ぶりの再共演を果たした両雄は、ライヴでも共演が実現していました。良い機会でもありますので、まずは『CAMOUFLAGE』『FLASH』にまつわる一連の流れをロッドのスケジュールで俯瞰してみましょう。

これが1984年／1985年のロッド・スチュワート。この時期ジェフはツアーを行っていなかったわけですが、ロッドは精力的にワールド・ツアーを実施。本作のシアトル公演は、その序盤である「北米」レッグの５公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウはサウンドボードが残された事でも知られ、ロッド＆ジェフ再共演の象徴ともなっている。本作は、そのベスト・マスターを磨き直した最高峰盤です。ひと口に「サウンドボード」と言っても種類は様々だったりしますが、本作はミックス卓直結系。盛大な大歓声が遠くの囁き声のように捉えられ、その代わり極太な演奏音がゼロ距離で脳みそに流し込まれる。正直なところ「完全オフィシャル級！」と呼ぶにはミックスがラフだったりもするのですが、その分、丸出しな芯のド迫力と無加工な生々しさが絶大。ヴォーカルは息づかいが内耳に感じられそうですし、頭の中でギター弦が振動するような異次元の没入簡に襲われるのです。
しかも、本作はそんな大定番サウンドボードの最高峰更新盤。正確でビシッと安定したピッチもさることながら、各音域のバランスが向上。特に詰まり気味だった高域が力強くなったのですが、これによって輪郭もくっきりと感じられ、抜けやセパレート感もグッと鮮やかになった。元から強烈だった直結サウンドボードのダイレクト感が鮮烈になっているのです。
そんなド級のダイレクト・サウンドで画かれるのは、両雄が並び経つ夢のステージ。ライヴはざっくり３つに分けられ、「前半＝ロッドのソロ」「後半＝ジェフと共演」「アンコール＝再びロッドのソロ」となっている。ここでそれぞれの内容を整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。本作では「DISC 1＝ロッドのソロ」「DISC 2＝ジェフと共演／アンコール」という構成。全編が聴き応え満点なのですが、やはりハイライトは「ジェフとの共演ステージ」でしょう。６曲が披露され、インスト「The Pump」以外の５曲で両雄が音を重ね合う。象徴曲「People Get Read」ははもちろんのこと、かつて２人がロック史を突き動かした「Rock My Plimsoul」「I Ain’t Superstitious」も披露。他の誰でもワガママ・ギターと、ポール・ロジャースでさえ憧れた情念の歌声が交感していくのです。全曲が胸に迫る中で、特に貴重なのは「Infatuation」「Bad For You」でしょうか。ジェフとロッドは2019年にも再々共演しました（当店の『HOLLYWOOD BOWL 2019（Uxbridge 1129）』でお楽しみいただけます）が、「Infatuation」「Bad For You」はそこで演奏されなかった。1984年だからこその貴重共演なのです。
CREAMとLED ZEPPELINの間を繋ぎ、ロック史の巨大なマイルストーンでもあった第一期JEFF BECK GROU。誰もが望んだ再結成の可能性も、永遠に消えてしまいました。本作は、その夢に最も近い再共演ステージを脳みそド直結サウンドボードで味わえるのです。まさにロック音楽の文化遺産以外の何物でもない銘品サウンドボード。最高峰クオリティの本作で存分にご堪能ください。
