そんなサウンドで描かれるのは、正しく“ロックなリッチーの総決算”。ロニーからジョー・リン・ターナー時代までの代表曲をズラッと並べ、さらにDEEP PURPLEの「Perfect Strangers」「Burn」までも演奏している。70年代・80年代の旧RAINBOWは意図的にDEEP PURPLEを避けていましたが、ここでは“ブラックモア・ミュージック”を区別なくやりたい放題。バンド名にこだわらない姿勢は、2016年の新生RAINBOWにも通じるものです。そんな新世紀RAINBOW以上なのが、猛烈な現役感覚。なにしろ、新作『STRANGER IN US ALL』の10曲中7曲(つまり、「Cold Hearted Woman」「Stand and Fight」「Silence」以外の全曲)が演奏される。切々とした「Temple Of The King」から鮮やかに切り替わる新名曲「Black Musquerade」のダイナミックなこと……。この後、リッチーは21年に渡ってロックアルバムを作っていないわけですが、その最後の名曲群がたっぷりと詰まっているわけです。

1970年の『IN ROCK』から歩み続けて25年。まさに“BLACKMORE’S HARD ROCKの到達点”を極上サウンドで捉えきったライヴ・イン・ジャパンの大傑作です。新世紀RAINBOWが世界を沸かした2016年。今だからこそ心突き動かされる1本を、あなたに。
