Ricky Lee Jones in 2009, who sent out a masterpiece “BALM IN GILEAD” that included old and new repertoire, and was also seriously involved in tour activities. A sound board album with delicious rare songs unique to those days is now available.
This work was recorded on “October 25, 2009 in Philadelphia”. It is a stereo sound board recording when appearing on the signboard program “WORLD CAFE LIVE” of the public broadcasting station WXPN. Since the schedule information at that time is inconsistent with the materials, it cannot be confirmed this time, so I will omit it this time, but the appearance of this work’s “WORLD CAFE LIVE” was early in the activities related to “BALM IN GILEAD”. Nine days before the album release, let’s go around the world in earnest! It was the timing of the arrowhead.
Also, this show is different from a regular concert. Studio live recorded in the broadcasting station, although the audience is once included. It seems that real fans, not Sakura, are gathering from the fact that the MC is laughing warmly, but at the same time, there is a sense of tension because it is a live broadcast. A unique mood that seems to be a music program really dominates the venue.
And the sound that conveys the stage is vivid with “super” attached. Usually speaking of FM broadcast soundboards, a well-organized sound like an official live album comes to mind, but this program seems to have been a live broadcast, and the sound, recording, and mix balance are all rough. The degree of perfection as a music work is disregarded, it is just a sound that was just recorded and put out.
Of course, it’s not a bad thing for soundboard enthusiasts who are worn out. The immersive feeling of each note of the simple ensemble ringing in the skull is amazing, and the singing voice is so real that you can understand the breathing through the wire mesh of the microphone. That’s exactly what the brain is attacked by the illusion that it is directly receiving radio waves.
It seems that the release of the album will be imminent, and a special performance with plenty of valuable “BALM IN GILEAD” number will be depicted with such real FM sound. Let’s get things sorted out here.
Balm in Gilead (5 songs)
・His Jeweled Floor/Remember Me/Bonfires/The Moon Is Made Of Gold/Wild Girl
● Others (4 songs)
・Evening of My Best Day: It Takes You There / Lap Dog
・Classics: Rodeo Girl / The Last Chance Texaco
… and it looks like this. Perhaps because of the broadcast frame, the content is less than 50 minutes and 9 songs in total, but more than half of it is occupied by the “BALM IN GILEAD” number. “The Moon Is Made of Gold” written by his father Richard Loris Jones in 1954 has been sung occasionally since the 80’s, but otherwise rare. In particular, “His Jeweled Floor”, “Remember Me” and “Bonfires” are rare songs that were recorded only at the time the album was released.
A live broadcast studio live that is different from a studio work or a normal concert live. It is a sound board album that reproduces the whole story in the brain. A vivid and immersive experience that cannot be experienced anywhere else. Please enjoy this game to the fullest.
