RAINBOW in 1982, who sent “Blow from the Eyes” to the 30th place in the United States for the first time since his debut, and was burning with the spirit of invading the United States. Introducing a live album where you can fully experience the final version.
It was “November 30, 1982 Barcelona performance” that was imbued with such a work. It is a powerful audience recording. This is the 1982 RAINBOW. The tour starts in North America one month before the album is released. Europe was the final leg of the tour set immediately after Japan, and it was only the continental edition without the home country of England. The Barcelona performance of this work is the final edition among them. It was the 21st performance of “Europe”.
This show has been partly incomplete masters for some time, but this work is a different recording. It is a complete master who can listen not only to the encore “Since You Been Gone” and “Man On The Silver Mountain” but also to the end of the performance “Over The Rainbow”. And the sound is a real audience with lively excitement in the field. The most wonderful thing is the powerful and blunt core. Overall, it’s not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, but the core, which has neither a sense of squishyness nor a sense of distance, is struck between the eyes, and the details are also vivid. Especially amazing are the guitar and vocals. The singing voice is clearly vivid at the FM broadcast level up to each word of the lyrics, and even if the chorus corps overlaps, it never mixes. The guitar is even better, and you can clearly see the subtleties of a little play phrase with a soft tone.
And it’s wonderful because it’s so powerful but it doesn’t scare you. To be honest, it’s hard to say that the sound that eats Gene is beautiful, but even if the performance attacks hard, it does not overpeak. If the Omoto Master was discovered, it might be a terrible direct recording … It’s a sound that makes you feel that potential.
What is drawn with such a powerful sound is a full show that puts the last spurt toward the completion of the tour. As mentioned above, the 1982 standard is the official video “LIVE BETWEEN THE EYES”, so let’s organize it while comparing it.

And above all, the performance is energetic. Ritchie performed flashy in “LIVE BETWEEN THE EYES”, but this work is also quite an enthusiastic performance. Both solo and riff are sharp, and Joe is in great shape. The beat of Bobby Rondinelli, who will leave RAINBOW after two performances, is also hard and really powerful. Just the last spurt! It’s an exhilarating show with just the momentum.

これが1982年のRAINBOW。ツアーはアルバム発売の１ヶ月前から北米でスタート。ヨーロッパは日本の直後に設定されたツアー最終レッグで、母国イギリスのない大陸編のみでした。本作のバルセロナ公演は、その中でも最終盤。「欧州」の21公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウは以前から一部で不完全マスターも出回っておりますが、本作はそれとは異なる別録音。アンコールの「Since You Been Gone」「Man On The Silver Mountain」だけでなく、終演を告げる「Over The Rainbow」まで聴ける完全版マスターです。そして、そのサウンドは現場の興奮も生々しいリアル・オーディエンス。何よりも素晴らしいのは力強くぶっとい芯。全体的にはサウンドボードと間違えるようなタイプでもないのですが、スカスカ感も距離感もない芯が目の間に突きつけられ、それに伴ってディテールもビビッドなのです。特に凄いのはギターとヴォーカル。歌声は歌詞の一語一語までFM放送レベルにクッキリ鮮やかですし、コーラス隊が重なっても決して混じり合わない。ギターはさらに素晴らしく、弱音のちょっとしたお遊びフレーズの機微まではっきり分かるのです。
そして、それだけパワフルなのにビビらないから素晴らしい。正直なところ、ジェネを食らったような鳴りは美麗とは言いがたいのですが、演奏がガンガンに攻め立ててもオーバーピークしない。もし大元マスターが発掘されたら凄まじいダイレクト録音なのかも知れない……そんなポテンシャルを感じさせるサウンドなのです。
そんなパワフル・サウンドで描かれるのは、ツアー完遂に向けてラストスパートをかけるフルショウ。前述のように、1982年の基準と言ったら公式映像『LIVE BETWEEN THE EYES』ですので、比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。曲目には「Child in Time」の名もありますが、これは「Stone Cold」のイントロに配されたキーボード・ソロでつま弾かれたもの。会場がワッと盛り上がるのは面白いのですが、リッチーもジョーも参加しません。
そして何より、演奏がエネルギッシュ。『LIVE BETWEEN THE EYES』でもリッチーが派手にパフォームしていましたが、本作もなかなかの熱演。ソロもリフもキレが良く、ジョーの絶好調。この後２公演をこなしてRAINBOWを去ることになるボビー・ロンディネリのビートも硬質で実にパワフル。まさにラストスパート！と言わんばかりの勢いが爽快なショウなのです。
