これが絶頂であった1975年／1976年のRAINBOW。前年に続いて北米ツアーで幕を開け、その後は「英国→大陸ヨーロッパ→豪州→日本」とサーキット。この中でも最大公演数で力を入れていたのが「欧州」レッグであり、本作のコペンハーゲン公演は、そのスタートダッシュとなる２公演目。1976年のヨーロッパと言えば、公式サウンドボードも残された「ケルン／デュッセルドルフ／ニュルンベルク」が象徴ですが、その３日前という直近のコンサートでもありました。
そんなステージは、名録音が残された事でもお馴染み。特に決定盤だったのが『THE RAGING GOD』。従来盤では別公演で補完されていた「Do You Close Your Eyes」まで収録された最長マスターで、サウンドも最高峰。もちろんサウンドボードと比較するタイプではありませんが、芯が力強く真っ直ぐ手元まで届き、そこからオーラのように発せられるホール鳴りも丸みにならずスッキリとしていて、演奏のディテールを隠すことなくダイナミズムを添加している。特にリッチーのソロでは粒立ちの良いストラトの１音１音がアタックする独立ち上がり、トーンも艶やかな甘みを感じさせるのです。
しかも、それを超えるのがヴォーカル。実はロニーの歌声がやや大きめに捉えられている録音としても知られるのですが、単に音量が大きいのではない。声の通りが良く、歌詞の一語一語までハッキリと伝わりつつ、会場の隅々まで伸びていく歌声には格調まで宿っている。サバス以降のアグレッションとは一線を画すRAINBOWだけのロマンティシズムが色濃く感じられる名録音なのです。
【1976年への造詣と美意識に裏打ちされた磨き込み】
思わず筆が走ってしまいましたが、ここまでは既発『THE RAGING GOD』の話。本作は、そんなベスト・マスターを改めて磨き直した最高峰更新盤なのです。そのマスタリングのコンセプトは「ナチュラル感」。実のところ『THE RAGING GOD』マスターが発掘された当時、世の中はラウドネス・ウォーに向けてまっしぐら。音圧こそが正義という時代でした。もちろん、当時にしては十分に美しくもあったのですが、時代の基準そのものが違うだけに、現代の耳にはやや装飾が過剰でもあったのです。
本作は、そんなサウンドを本来あるべき鳴り、「1976年のRAINBOWが奏でていた出音」に忠実に整え直したのです。高音や低音の過剰なポイントを１つひとつナチュラルにし、全体の音圧もアンサンブル重視全体のバランスに最適になるよう調整。パッと聴いた感じでは従来盤より地味に感じられる恐れもあったのですが、かつてラウドネス・ウォーを起こしは野は、その恐れ。本作ではコンセプトにしたがって「45年前の生音」の再現に努めました。
また、ここでのポイントは「録音に忠実」ではなく「出音に忠実」というところ。例えば、マスターの原音ではドラムソロで入力過剰な打音があったり、「Man On The Silver Mountain」で若干こもり気味になったりするのですが、そうしたパートは可能な限りトリートメント。違和感も最小限にフルショウを味わう音楽作品としての完成度も追求しているのです。この感覚は、絵画の修復作業に似ている。あせた色彩に極彩色をドバドバ塗りたくるのではなく、描かれた当時の環境・機材まで考慮して「当時の色」を分析。残された顔料も最大限に活かして再現する……。もちろん、本作から当時のＰＡ出力音そのものが流れ出るわけではありませんが、そういう美術的な方向性で現代技術を駆使しているのです。

The main press 2CD is a hidden treasure live album where you can experience “1976 RAINBOW”, which was the highest in British hard rock, in Europe. It is the highest peak update board. The Copenhagen performance that was the stage is also known for leaving valuable images. Therefore, a special bonus will be attached to the valuable video that tells you the “other side” of the main press 2CD.
That’s why it’s the same as the main press 2CD included in this work @ “September 22, 1976 Copenhagen performance”. This is an audience shot taken on 8mm film from the audience seats. As any collector who pays attention to this article knows, basically, audience shots will develop rapidly only in the 1980s when home video cameras began to spread. Before that, the consciousness of “shooting a concert” had not spread, leaving only a few 8mm films. And in recent years, this precious 8mm excavation has become popular. Unlike video, 8mm film can only be shot for about a dozen seconds to a minute, but there are active activities to collect such shredded images and cover them with audio to create a video work.
This work is a RAINBOW version of such an 8mm reprint. It is a famous image that was excavated about 10 years ago and was made into a press as “THE RAGING GOD COLLECTORS EDITION (part)”. As mentioned above, even if you collect the shredded images, it takes about 3 songs and 6 and a half minutes, but the quality is amazing. The glossiness of the screen peculiar to 8 mm far exceeds that of the video, and the vivid coloring is real while having a slightly vintage feel. And above all, a superb view. Even in the arena seats, there are quite a few front seats, and from there you can look directly at the stage over the audience. You can feel Ronnie and Ritchie right in front of you.
Actually, this 8mm was silent, but the maniac who was in charge of the excavation used the audience recording on the same day. It doesn’t live perfectly in sync, but the song fits and is good enough for an audience clip. With that quality, you can experience a shocking guitar crash in the field, so the real thrill is tremendous.
Recently, the excavation of TV professional shots such as “Do You Close Your Eyes” performed in Munich and promotional programs for tours has become a hot topic, but after all “experience from the audience’s perspective” cannot be replaced by anything. .. 本編プレス２CDはｍ英国ハードロックに至高であった「1976年のRAINBOW」をヨーロッパで体験できる秘宝ライヴアルバム。その最高峰更新盤です。その舞台となったコペンハーゲン公演は、貴重な映像が残された事でも知られています。そこで、本編プレス２CDの「向こう側」を教えてくれる貴重映像も特別ボーナス付属決定です。
というわけで、本作に収められているの本編プレス２CDと同じ＠「1976年９月22日コペンハーゲン公演」。その観客席から８ミリ・フィルムで撮影されたオーディエンス・ショットです。本稿に目を留められるコレクター諸氏ならご存知とは思いますが、基本的にオーディエンス・ショットが急速に発展するのは家庭用ビデオカメラが普及し始めた80年代に入ってから。それ以前は「コンサートを撮影する」という意識自体が広まっておらず、数少ない８ミリ・フィルムが残されているだけです。そして近年では、この貴重な８ミリ発掘が盛ん。ビデオと違って８ミリ・フィルムは十数秒から１分程度しか撮影できないわけですが、そうした細切れの映像をかき集め、音声を被せて映像作品に仕上げる活動が活発なのです。
本作は、そんな８ミリ復刻のRAINBOW版。10年ほど前に発掘され、『THE RAGING GOD COLLECTORS EDITION（の一部）』としてプレス化も果たした名映像なのです。前述のように、細切れ映像を集積しても３曲・６分半ほどなのですが、そのクオリティはド肝を抜かれる。８ミリ特有の画面の艶やかさはビデオを遙かに超え、ややヴィンテージ感触ながらもビビッドな発色もリアル。そして何より、超絶景。アリーナ席でもかなりの前方席であり、そこから観客の頭上越しにステージを直視。ロニーとリッチーをすぐ目の前に感じられるのです。
実のところ、この８ミリはサイレントだったわけですが、発掘を担ったマニアは同日のオーディエンス録音を使用。完全にシンクロとまでは生きませんが、曲は合っており、オーディエンス・クリップとしては十分。そのクオリティで、衝撃のギター・クラッシュを現場体験できるのですから、その醍醐味は絶大なのです。
最近ではミュンヘン公演の「Do You Close Your Eyes」やツアーのプロモーション番組など、TVプロショットの発掘も話題となっておりますが、やはり「客席視点の体験感」は何物にも代えられません。時代のハンデを乗り越え、「1976年の客席」を45年後に伝えてくれる歴史的映像の大傑作。どうぞ、フル・ライヴアルバムの本編プレス２CDと併せてたっぷりとご堪能ください。
