The masterpiece was recorded “March 7, 1975 Milwaukee performance”. It is a full scale audience recording. This recording is just a treasure. Even though, “SHEER HEART ATTACK TOUR” full-length recording is valuable, but the sound is also wonderful, and above all the show itself is a masterpiece of the best. Overseas QUEEN specialized sites are also called “the best records in the initial QUEEN”, and because of its so much greatness, once only core collectors were kept secret. This is the whole picture of “SHEER HEART ATTACK TOUR 1974-1975”. The last place was Japan, but this work was the concert that hits the third performance of “North America # 2” just before that. As a matter of fact, initially, “North America # 1” and “North America # 2” were to be linked. However, Fredy’s throat breaks down on the tour. 7 performances were canceled by the doctor stop. The Milwaukee performance of this work was a show of repartitioning that will be immediately after its return.
This work that recorded such a show is a wonderful vintage audience that also makes it legendary. Above all else, the strength and fine detail of the core that goes straight through. It is not a type that is mistaken for the sound board, but the feeling of air is clear and vivid to every corner. Every guitar and riff, and every stroke of the drum, it’s pretty clear, and Freddie’s singing voice is clear without hesitation. It is a masterpiece decision only with a full recording with the sound that updated the highest peak, but the biggest point of this work is in the show itself. This is already a great daimyo performance. As mentioned earlier, it was a cancellation complaint due to Freddie’s upset, but his voice after rest is in excellent condition. The treble also stretches comfortably and is powerful up to one word. Moreover, high tension. Freddie sings in a manner that feels like his voice comes out as he likes, and spells the melody in various voices as if trying out the limits of the throat. Of course, Freddie’s revival is also directly linked to the musicians’ instigation. The guitar is also in excellent condition, with a powerful and sharp rhythm team. その名作が記録されたのは「1975年３月７日ミルウォーキー公演」。そのフルスケールのオーディエンス録音です。この録音は、まさに至宝。ただでさえ、“SHEER HEART ATTACK TOUR”の全景録音というのは貴重なのですが、さらにサウンドも素晴らしく、何よりもショウそのものが極めつけの大名演。海外のQUEEN専門サイトでも「初期QUEENで最も素晴らしい記録」と呼ばれ、そのあまりの素晴らしさ故に、かつてはコア・コレクターだけが秘匿していたほど。世界中のマニアが聴きたくても聴けずに切歯扼腕としていた伝説の名録音なのです。本作は、そんな歴史的な名録音のベスト・バージョンをブラッシュ・アップ。史上最高峰クオリティで永久保存した１枚なのです。
その気になる中身の前に、まずはショウのポジション。1975年と言えば、QUEEN史に輝く初来日もあったわけですが、それも含めて当時の日程から確かめておきましょう。

これが“SHEER HEART ATTACK TOUR 1974-1975”の全体像。その最終地が日本だったのですが、本作はその直前「北米#2」の３公演目にあたるコンサートでした。実のところ、当初は「北米#1」と「北米#2」はひと続きになる予定でした。しかし、ツアーにフレディの喉に故障が発生。ドクター・ストップにより７公演がキャンセルとなりました。本作のミルウォーキー公演は、その復帰直後となる仕切り直しのショウだったのです。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、伝説になるのも頷ける素晴らしいヴィンテージ・オーディエンス。何よりも素晴らしいのは、真っ直ぐに貫かれる芯の力強さと細やかなディテール。サウンドボードと間違えるようなタイプでこそありませんが、空気感が透き通っており、隅々まで鮮やか。ギター・リフの１つひとつ、ドラムの１打１打までクッキリとしており、フレディの歌声も淀みなくクリア。ロジャーやブライアンのコーラスが重なっても１人ひとりの１単語まで感じ取れるのです。さらにオーディエンス・ノイズまで素晴らしい。右肩上がりの人気ぶりを感じさせる熱狂も吸い込んでいるものの、それはあくまでも曲間。盛大な喝采が沸き起こっては静まり、１曲１曲を噛みしめるように聴き込んでいる。アメリカらしからぬ雰囲気は初期ならではであり、いきなり人気爆発だった日本よりも聴きやすいくらいです。
その鮮やかさを支えているのは録音自体の素晴らしさに加え、絶品のマスター鮮度。70年代オーディエンスと言えば、ダビング痕やテープヨレは宿命のようなものですが、本作にはそれがほとんど感じられない。唯一、劣化していると言えばギターソロ中盤のテープチェンジ部のみ。テープの端に来た事で１分弱ほどヨレが起きてしまいますが、それ以外には劣化らしい劣化が見当たらず、まるでDAT録音かのような瑞々しさが絶え間なく続く。長年に渡って秘匿されてきたからこその鮮やかな鮮度がたっぷりと感じられるのです。
しかも、本作はそんな名録音をブラッシュ・アップ。正確なピッチはもちろんですが、それ以上に重要なのが鳴り。もちろん、伝説の名録音ですから、無闇矢鱈な音圧稼ぎで汚すような無粋なマネはしておりません。本作のポイントは、むしろナチュラル感。録音自体のクリアさ、美しい鳴りは最大限に残しつつ、より「現場で鳴っていたであろう音」の再現に努めました。原音ではヴォーカルやギターといった中音域の鳴りに不自然感、ヴィンテージ感があったのですが、それを整理。その結果、さらに自然に感じられるだけでなく、分離感にも優れたサウンドを実現しているのです。
最高峰を更新したサウンドでフル収録なだけで名作決定ですが、本作最大のポイントはショウそのものにある。これがもう、素晴らしい大名演なのです。先述のようにフレディの不調でキャンセル騒ぎとなったわけですが、休養を経た彼の声は絶好調。高音も気持ちよく伸びに伸び、１語１語まで力強い。しかも、ハイテンション。フレディ自身、思い通りに出る自分の声にはしゃいでいるように歌い、まるでノドの限界を試すかのように様々な声色でメロディを綴ってゆくのです。もちろん、フレディ復活は演奏陣の発奮にも直結。パワフルでキレのあるリズム隊も淀みないギターも絶好調。QUEENを深く深く研究している専門サイトが「最も素晴らしい記録」と呼ぶのも納得の名演がたっぷりと味わえるのです。

サウンド、演奏、そして輝ける初期の名曲群。マニアが秘匿したくなるほどの秘宝が最高峰を更新して永久保存された１枚です。“SHEER HEART ATTACK TOUR”と言えば、近年では公式作品『LIVE AT THE RAINBOW ’74（のCD編）』でも広く知られるようになりましたが、その絶頂のショウはまだまだマニアだけのもの。それを体験できる伝説の１枚。どうぞ、プレスCDでじっくりとお楽しみください。
