It was an attractive item just to make a luxurious box set of three records, but after all, it was the 200th anniversary of the founding of the country in 1976, and the colors of the American flag were red and blue. , It was released in white colored vinyl.

Although analog drop items including the “WINGS FROM ~” box package were released only once in the 90’s, there are also excessive equalizations that make the needle sound inconspicuous, which also attracts attention. Such a situation changed after the sound source of the same day recorded by Mike Millard appeared in the latter half of the 1990s. Since it is the same day as “WINGS FROM ~”, it is customary to release a mirrored sound source with the same jacket design and title. In this case, there are many enthusiasts who think that “WINGS FROM ~” used a mirrored sound source even in LP.
But it’s different. The sound source of the pure trader Millard appeared in the bootleg world long after the early 1980s, when the release of “LISTEN TO THIS, EDDIE” first. The sound source used for “WINGS FROM ~” is a completely different audience recording, and it is presumed that John Wizard recorded it for Andrea. Unlike TMOQ etc., the original source of the sound source recorded by John is not distributed among traders at all, and it is also true for this performance.

With this, I hope you understand that what is currently released in the title and package of “WINGS FROM THE WINGS” is not the original LP but a mirrored sound source, but regarding his recording Finally, a master cassette was unearthed, which was released last week as “LA FORUM 1976 1ST NIGHT” and is a big bestseller record.
Therefore, this time we are planning to release a CD version of “WINGS FROM THE WINGS” which is genuine in terms of packaging and contents. For that release, we compared both the original LP box and the version of Remasters Workshop, which was previously released as a free gift CD-R and became a tremendous bestseller. When I released it as a free gift CD-R at that time, the reason was that “the beginning of the song was missing due to trouble when uploading”, but of course I got a file without such a problem this time. I was surprised again that I was tracing the vintage LP boot very cleanly. So I decided to base it on the version of Remasters Workshop again.
In addition, the site that uploaded the Remasters Workshop file went down this fall, and it changed into a situation where it was difficult to obtain like a lie before. In that sense, it can be said that it is meaningful to make the Remasters Workshop version into a CD.

For this release, first of all, the pitch madness that was overlooked in the Remasters Workshop version was finely adjusted. Next, the cut in the song that was in the original LP was left as it was, but first of all, regarding the cut of the largest “I’ve Just Seen a Face”, we succeeded in supplementing the mirrored sound source and connecting it smoothly. I did. It was well received on the free gift CD-R last week, and there was a cut when it became the same song in “LA FORUM 1976 2ND NIGHT” which continues this week, but when recording the Over America tour, it is easy to hit the tape change. It was “I’ve Just ~”. In that respect, I was reminded of the greatness of Millard, who previewed the concert in San Diego and recorded June 23 uncut.
The beginning of “Listen To What The Man Said” was also supplemented with a mirrored sound source, but the skipping that occurred at 1:19 of “Blackbird” is dealt with by a different approach. Since this song is played by Paul alone, the simple performance is a disaster, and if you connect it to a mirrored sound source, you can not hide the discomfort of the sound quality. So I copied and supplemented the same lyrics part of the LP sound source, and the result was so beautiful that I couldn’t tell where the skips were. Speaking of copy editing, it is a technique that was often used in the Beatles star club (for example, “Ask Me Why”), so if you compare it to a similar approach, I wonder if enthusiasts will understand it.

And although it is the audience recording used for LP, of course it is not as close as the amazing sound image like a mirrored sound source. However, while the sound image there was too close and I felt unsatisfactory in some places, this one conveys the enthusiasm of the final day of the Over America tour more realistically. Still, there are no annoying customers, and the sense of distance of the performance is exquisite again. Besides, it has a warm sound quality. Old enthusiasts, an analog-like vintage audience in a good way, will enjoy it with nostalgia.
And … Whatever you say, listening through the LP three-disc box set is a bit annoying as an item (laughs). In that respect, this is a set of two CDs with minimal changes. The advantage of a CD that can be heard crisply is fully opened. And the package will have a horizontal yellow numbering sticker that is conscious of the original first press (will it turn red if the second edition comes out? Lol). In this way, the name board is also respected in terms of packaging. As mentioned in the jacket, this is the original “WINGS FROM THE WINGS”!

彼女が最初に使ったレーベル・ブランドがIdle Mind Productions（IMP）でした。レーベルには女性のイラストが使われており、それこそ女性が運営するレーベルの証でもあった訳ですが、ブランド第一作目として選ばれたのが「WINGS FROM THE WINGS」でした。レコード三枚組の豪華なボックスセットという作りだけでも十分に魅力のあるアイテムでしたが、何といってもとどめを刺したのは76年が建国200周年であり、アメリカ国旗の色にかけてレッド、ブルー、ホワイトのカラービニールでのリリースだったという。
ビートルズのメンバーが行った話題の最新ツアーを収めていただけでなく、アイテムとしても非常に魅力的な作りであったことが大ベストセラーの要因となったのです。箱に入れるだけなら既にアイテムは存在していた。しかしアンドレアの場合はアメリカ国旗に合わせて三色カラービニールというセンスがいかにも女性らしい。そして「WINGS FROM～」のリリースと大ヒットこそ、オフィシャル「OVER AMERICA」のリリースを促したというのは有名な話。

さすがにオフィシャル登場以降は過去のアイテムと化してしまい、それがCDの時代を迎えるといよいよ見過ごされた感は否めません。一度だけ「WINGS FROM～」ボックスのパッケージを含めてアナログ落としのアイテムが90年代にリリースされたことがあったものの、針音を目立たなくさせるイコライズが過剰なこともあり、これもまた注目を浴びることなく消え去りました。
そんな状況が変化するのは1990年代後半にマイク・ミラードが録音した同日の音源が登場してからのこと。「WINGS FROM～」と同日の音源であるということから、それと同じジャケット・デザインやタイトルでミラード音源がリリースされることが慣例となります。こうなると「WINGS FROM～」はLPでもミラード音源を使っていたのでは…と思い込んでいるマニアが少なくないのでは？
でも違うんです。ピュア・トレーダーたるミラードの音源がブートレグ界に現れたのはずっと後で1980年代前半、かの「LISTEN TO THIS, EDDIE」のリリースが最初。「WINGS FROM～」に使われた音源はそれとまったく違うオーディエンス録音であり、恐らくはジョン・ウィザードがアンドレアの為に録音してあげたのではと推測されれるもの。TMOQなどと違ってジョンが録音した音源というのは元ソースがトレーダー間に一切出回っておらず、本公演に関してもしかり。

これで改めて現在「WINGS FROM THE WINGS」のタイトルやパッケージでリリースされているものが本来のLPでなくミラード音源を収録していることを理解してもらえたかと思いますが、彼の録音に関しては遂にマスター・カセットが発掘され、それが先週「L.A. FORUM 1976 1ST NIGHT」としてリリースされ大ベストセラー記録中です。
そこで今回はパッケージ面と内容面の点で正真正銘の「WINGS FROM THE WINGS」CDバージョンをリリースという企画。そのリリースに当たっては、オリジナルLPボックスはもちろん、以前無料ギフトCD-Rとしてリリースしたところ物凄いベストセラーとなってしまったRemasters Workshopのバージョンの両方を比較。当時無料ギフトCD-Rとしてリリースした際は「曲の頭がアップロード時のトラブルから欠けてしまった」ことを理由としましたが、今回はもちろんそうした問題のないファイルを入手。改めてビンテージLPブートを極めてクリーンにトレースしていたことに驚かされました。そこで今回もRemasters Workshopのバージョンを基にすることにしたのです。
またRemasters Workshopのファイルは今年の秋にアップロードしてくれていたサイトがダウンしてしまい、以前が嘘のように入手困難な状況へと一変してしまいました。そうした意味でもRemasters WorkshopバージョンをCD化する意義があると言えるでしょう。

今回のリリースに際しては、まず初めにRemasters Workshopバージョンで見過ごされていたピッチの狂い緻密にアジャスト。次にオリジナルのLPにあった曲中のカットもそのままとなっていましたが、まず一番大きな「I’ve Just Seen a Face」のカットに関してはミラード音源を補填、なおかつスムーズにつなげることに成功したのです。先週の無料ギフトCD-Rで好評につき、今週も継続する「L.A. FORUM 1976 2ND NIGHT」でも同曲になるとカットが生じていましたが、オーバー・アメリカ・ツアーを録音するとテープチェンジに当たりやすいのが「I’ve Just～」でした。その点サンディエゴでコンサートを下見して6月23日をノーカットで録音してみせたミラードの偉大さを思い知らされます。
「Listen To What The Man Said」の冒頭にもミラード音源で補填しましたが、「Blackbird」の1:19で生じた音飛びに関しては違うアプローチで対処しています。この曲はポール一人の弾き語りということでシンプルな演奏が災いし、ミラード音源につなげると音質の違和感が隠せない。そこでLP音源の同じ歌詞のパートをコピペして補ったところ、どこに音飛びがあったのか分からないほど奇麗な仕上がりとなったのです。コピペ編集と言えばビートルズのスタークラブ（例えば「Ask Me Why」など）で多用されていた技ですので、それに近いアプローチだと例えればマニアには理解してもらえるかと。

そしてLPに使われたオーディエンス録音ですが、もちろんミラード音源のような驚異的な音像の近さにはかないません。しかし、そちらの音像が近すぎ、所によっては臨場感に物足りなさを覚えたのに対し、こちらはもっとリアルにオーバー・アメリカ・ツアー最終日の熱狂ぶりを伝えてくれる。それでいて煩わしい客などおらず、演奏の程よい距離感がまた絶妙。それに何といってもウォーミーな音質。いい意味でアナログチックなビンテージ・オーディエンス、オールド・マニアには懐かしさ一杯に楽しんでもらえるでしょう。
それに…こう言っては何ですがLP三枚組のボックスセットを聞き通すというのは、アイテム的にちょっと面倒（笑）。その点こちらはCD二枚組で面変わりも最小。サクサク聞き通せてしまうCDの利点が全開。そしてパッケージにはオリジナルの初回プレスを意識した横長で黄色いナンバリング・ステッカーが貼られます（もしセカンド・エディションが出れば赤に変わるのか？笑）。こうしてパッケージ面においても名盤をリスペクト。ジャケにも記されていますが、これぞオリジナル「WINGS FROM THE WINGS」！
