It’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s a rare masterpiece of the 1990 rock album as well as an oasis. The group who finished the work of “(WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY?” That’s what we can call the first peak in 1995. At this time of year, there was a masterpiece called Glastonbury, and another masterpiece called the Roskill de Festival is well known to enthusiasts. The expression “the time when the fat got on” fits perfectly.
While both of them were records of the stage in June 1995, in July they served as the undercard of REM in several performances. Due to the nature of the undercard, there are no sound sources for broadcasting at this time, but fortunately there are audience recordings with outstandingly good sound quality. It will be released this time on July 22nd at Slane Castle in Slane.
It is an outdoor venue where many big names held concerts, so if you like rock, you may have heard it once. The items of the various artists who performed here often feature Dublin credits, but in reality they were not located in Dublin. However, most people will go to this venue via Dublin, so it’s almost like going from Tokyo to Tokyo Disneyland via Chiba. To tell the truth, at the beginning of this release, I misunderstood that it was Dublin (bitter smile).

Even so, the sound quality of the audience recording on this day is outstandingly good. Recording using a DAT recorder was also successful, and the sound image was turned on anyway. This is a recording state that should be described as “soundboard-like.” It seems that the ease of listening is guaranteed by itself, but another big merit is that because it was the undercard of another artist, the big chorus that is common in live performances of Oasis has not occurred at all. The environment in which the sound image is close and the surrounding sounds are not bothersome is effective, and it is exceptionally easy to hear even in the audience recording of the 1995 oasis.
It is a superb sound source that boasts such quality, but the fact that it has only been released as a bonus CD of the 2002 live broadcast item “ARE YOU GONNA BE THE ONE WHO SAVES ME?” I can’t. A British oasis researcher who has provided and supervised sound sources other than the Kinney Master reminded me, “My favorite show. I really want you to release this.”
Of course, for this release, it will be recorded again from the DAT master copy version that was on the net. Although the original sound quality was very good, there was a problem that the volume at the time of recording was lowered in the first half of “Acquiesce”, so I carefully adjusted this part. I restored it to a natural state as if there were no such problems.

Of course, the sound quality is wonderful, but the performance of the oasis on this day is also wonderful. It’s ridiculous to think that it will be exciting because they are playing in front of the audience who is the undercard of REM and the chorus does not occur, and they are enthusiastic with the high tension performance unique to this time.
As proof of that, when I started “Hello” which was still before the release at that time, the audience rushed forward and the band immediately stopped playing. Noel is calling attention with a strong tone, and it is a scene that is quite devilish. It was also a scene that predicted the happening that happened at their live performance in Manchester 10 years later.
More than that, Liam’s voice is in great shape. In the first place, there were few bad days, and it was a time when voices were coming out in a funny way every day, so I really feel good listening to them. A thrilling performance that is as good as Glastonbury and Roskillde. The songs included in “MORNING GLORY” such as “Hello” played by repartitioning, “Roll With It”, and “Don’t Look Back In Anger” which has not yet turned into an anthem shines freshly. Under such circumstances, Liam’s coolness screams “Camone!” At the start of the finale “I Am The Walrus”. After all this time is special.
And in front of “Don’t Look ~” and “Rock’n’ Roll Star”, there is a scene where Alan White hits a funny rhythm, and as he gains experience on the tour, he becomes a drum craftsman who silently carves the rhythm. You can also get a glimpse of the innocence that is unique to him immediately after joining. A famous sound source and a famous performance that there are many such things to hear. An audience album with the best sound quality that captures the first peak summer oasis in 1995!

オアシスはもとより1990年のロックアルバム稀代の名盤といっても過言ではない「(WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY?」の作業を終えたグループが6月から7月にかけてフェス巡りを中心としたライブ活動こそ、1995年における最初のピークと呼べるのでは。この時期には何といってもグラストンベリーという極めつけの名演があり、さらにはロスキルデ・フェスティバルというもう一つの名演もマニアによく知られるところ。まさに「脂の乗った時期」という表現がぴったり当てはまります。
それらがどちらも95年6月のステージの記録だったのに対し、7月にはREMの前座をいくつかの公演で務めていました。前座という性質上、この時期の放送用音源などは存在しないのですが、幸いにも抜群に音質の良いオーディエンス録音が存在しています。それが今回リリースされる7月22日のスレーンにあるスレーン城でのライブ。
数々のビッグネームがコンサートを開いた野外会場ですので、ロック好きなら一度は耳にしたことのある会場名ではないでしょうか。ここでの演奏を収めたさまざまなアーティストのアイテムには時としてダブリンのクレジットが記載されることが多々ありますが、実のところ所在地はダブリンではなかった。もっとも、ほとんどの人はこの会場へダブリンを経由して行くと思われますので、例えるなら東京から千葉を経由して東京ディズニーランドに行く感覚に近いものがあります。実を言うと今回のリリースに際しても当初はダブリンだと勘違いしていました（苦笑）。

それにしても、この日のオーディエンス録音は抜群に音質がいい。DATレコーダーを用いて録音されたことも功を奏し、とにかく音像がオン。これぞ「サウンドボードのような」と形容されるべき録音状態なのです。それだけでも聞きやすさは保証されたようなものですが、もう一つの大きなメリットとして、他アーティストの前座であったことから、オアシスのライブにありがちな大合唱がまったく生じていないという。音像が近くて周囲の音が煩わしくないという環境が功を奏し、1995年オアシスのオーディエンス録音の中でも格別の聞きやすさ。
それほどのクオリティを誇る極上音源でありながら、今まで2002年ライブ放送のアイテム「ARE YOU GONNA BE THE ONE WHO SAVES ME?」のおまけCDとしてだけしかリリースされた実績がないという事実には驚きを禁じえません。これまでキニー・マスター以外の音源提供と監修を務めてくれているイギリスのオアシス研究家からも「私のフェイバリット・ショウ。これは是非リリースしてほしい」と念を押されたほど。
もちろん今回のリリースに際してはネット上に出回っていたDATマスター・コピー・バージョンから改めて収録。元々の音質が非常に優れてはいたものの「Acquiesce」の前半には録音時の音量が下がってしまうトラブルがあり、この個所を丁寧にアジャスト。そうした問題がなかったかのような自然な状態へと修復しました。

こうした音質の素晴らしさはもちろんですが、この日のオアシスの演奏がまた素晴らしい。REMの前座、なおかつ合唱も起きないオーディエンスを前に演奏しているから盛り上がらないかと思いきやとんでもない、この時期ならではのテンション高めな演奏で彼らを熱狂させているのです。
その証拠として、当時まだリリース前だった「Hello」を始めたところ、オーディエンスが前に押し寄せてきてしまいバンドはすぐに演奏を中断。ノエルが強い調子で注意を呼び掛けており、かなり鬼気迫る場面となっています。それはまるで10年後のマンチェスターでの自身たちのライブで起きたハプニングを予言するかのような場面でもありました。
それ以上に何といってもリアムの声が絶好調。そもそも不調な日の方が少なく、どの日も面白いように声が出ていた時期ですので、聞いていて本当に気持ちがイイ。グラストンベリーやロスキルデにも負けない胸のすくような快演が繰り広げられている。仕切り直しで演奏された「Hello」に「Roll With It」、そしてまだアンセムと化していない「Don’t Look Back In Anger」といった「MORNING GLORY」収録曲が初々しく映える。そんな中でフィナーレ「I Am The Walrus」の歌い出しで「カモーン！」と煽るリアムのかっこよさ。やはりこの時期は特別。
そして「Don’t Look～」や「Rock ‘n’ Roll Star」の前ではアラン・ホワイトがおどけたリズムを叩いてみせる場面があり、ツアーの経験を積むにつれて黙々とリズムを刻むドラム職人となる彼の加入直後ならではの初々しさも垣間見られます。こうした聞きどころも多く存在するという名音源かつ名演。1995年における最初のピークたる夏のオアシスを捉えた極上音質のオーディエンス・アルバムです！
