Neil Young’s masterpiece live item released in the early days of CD had a paper jacket title “SWINGING IN THE SILENCE”. This was a recording of the 1989 Frankfurt performance with the highest quality audience recording, and coupled with its unique package, it was treated as a masterpiece by maniacs.
The 1989 European tour was blessed with sound sources, with performances in Hamburg and Paris being broadcast on the radio respectively, and Rotterdam on the final day of the tour being officially distributed.
However, this time’s sound source was loved by maniacs as a transcendent audience that could not be outdone by such a group of soundboards. Moreover, it was recorded from the master cassette that was the basis of the old masterpiece “SWINGING IN THE SILENCE”.

“SWINGING IN~” was certainly a masterpiece, but it was ruthlessly inferior in front of this master cassette. Maniacs all over the world will be amazed at the clearer sound quality this time as soon as you listen to it.
“SWING IN ~” is based on the version that has been dubbed several times, or maybe a little noise reduction was applied when making it into a CD. .
In that respect, the recording from the master has been realized, and the upper feeling of this time is too vivid. It is a level where “SWINGING IN THE SILENCE” that seemed so wonderful is completely obsolete. Or rather, since it was released in 1990, it’s more surprising that the value hasn’t fallen to this day.

Neil’s ’89 singing tour has many high-quality audience recordings that benefited from the approach of playing acoustic sounds loudly. MILLARD FIRST GENERATION TAPES”, and masterpieces such as “GREEK THEATER 1989 2ND NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD FIRST-GENERATION TAPES” with a full selection of songs and superb sound quality on CD-R have been released, but this time all of them A tremendous high-quality sound that surpasses the .

Although it will be released on CD-R, the new standard of Frankfurt in 1989 will be released in the upper version without complaint. CD黎明期にリリースされたニール・ヤングの名作ライブ・アイテムに「SWINGING IN THE SILENCE」という紙ジャケ・タイトルがありました。これは1989年のフランクフルト公演を極上音質のオーディエンス録音で収めていたもので、そのユニークなパッケージと相まってマニアには名盤扱いされていました。
89年のヨーロッパ・ツアーはハンブルグとパリの公演がそれぞれラジオで放送され、さらにツアー最終日のロッテルダムが現在では公式に配信されるなど音源に恵まれた状況にあります。
ところが、そうしたサウンドボード群にまったく引けを取らない超絶オーディエンスとしてマニアに愛されたのが今回の音源。しかも古の名盤「SWINGING IN THE SILENCE」の元になったマスターカセットからの収録ときた。

確かに「SWINGING IN～」は名盤だったのですが、無情にも今回のマスターカセットの前では明らかに劣ってしまう。一聴して解るほど今回の方がクリアーな音質には世界中のマニアが驚愕させられることでしょう。
「SWINGING IN～」は数回ダビングを経たバージョンを元にしている、あるいはCD化の際に少しノイズ・リダクションを施したのでしょう、今回のマスターと聞き比べてみると何とも抜けの悪い音質に映る。
その点マスターからの収録が実現したことで、今回のアッパー感があまりにも鮮烈。あれほど素晴らしく思えた「SWINGING IN THE SILENCE」がすっかり旧態化してしまうレベルなのです。というか1990年のリリースですから、今日まで価値が落ちなかったという事の方が驚きというもの。

ニール89年の弾き語りツアーはアコースティックなサウンドを大音響で鳴らすというアプローチの恩恵を受けた高音質なオーディエンス録音が多く、夏のアメリカ・ツアーからは「BARSTOOL BLUES ‘89」に「COSTA MESA 1989: MIKE MILLARD FIRST GENERATION TAPES」というプレスCDリリース、さらにCD-Rなら充実選曲＆極上音質の「GREEK THEATRE 1989 2ND NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD FIRST-GENERATION TAPES」といった名作がリリースされてまいりましたが、今回はそれらすべてを凌駕するほど凄まじい高音質。
既にこうしたアイテムが出揃っている状況が故に今回は惜しくもCD-Rでのリリースとなったのですが、その信じられないほどのクオリティは完全にプレスレベルの音質。オープニングでテーパーが一旦レコーダを止めたタイミングでニールが登場してしまい、慌てて録音ボタンを押し直した「My My, Hey Hey」がカットインで始まるのはご愛敬。
またライブ終演後の会場でローリング・ストーンズの「Goin’ Home」が流されるという「SWINGING IN THE SILENCE」には未収録の場面が含まれているのもマスターならでは。

そして極めつけは名曲連発のセットリストの中において当時の新曲として披露された「Hanging On A Limb」。当時リリースされたばかりだった名作『フリーダム』収録曲ながらライブ披露は89年にたった五回という希少な扱い。そんな貴重な場面も完璧な音質で捉えてくれている。
オールド・マニアには懐かしい名盤「SWINGING IN THE SILENCE」が遂にお役御免となる日がやってきました。CD-Rでのリリースとなりますが、89年フランクフルトの新たなスタンダードが文句なしのアッパー版にてリリースされます。これは初心者からマニアまで安心して聞ける最高の音質。
