This work is a title that mainly includes pre-debut sound sources newly discovered after the release of “The Burnage Years 1988-1993” released by the Bayswater label in 2010. Below is a brief introduction to each sound source.
[DISC ONE] Tracks 01-03 are Oasis’ first demo session tapes recorded at Out of the Blue Studios on Blossom Street, Ancoats in the fall of 1991. The band got this session for free after Tony plastered it. Noel’s name is on the inlay of this tape, which was put up for sale on eBay in 2003, but considering the timing of the sessions and when Noel joined the band, the sessions were probably recorded without Noel. All three songs were penned by Liam and Bonehead.Track 04-14 is a tape consisting of demos recorded at The Boardwalk Basement in Manchester and The Real Peoples Studio in London, and the source is the demo tape that was released by donations from many fans.
Two tracks stand out: Track 07, “Comin’ On Strong,” is the prototype for “Setting Sun,” the first collaboration between The Chemical Brothers and Noel, with Liam on vocals. The lyrics are also different from the release Ver.
Track 08 “Lock All the Doors” is an early version of the B-side “My Sister Lover” of the single “Stand By Me” released during the album “Be Here Now”, and the lyrics are also different here. Also used is the chorus from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds song of the same name.
Track 15 “Married With Chirlden” is a demo recorded at Mark Coil’s home, and Track 16 “Slide Away” is a rare track that Noel played at a Manchester radio station in December 1993.
[DISC TWO] Track 01 “Bring It On Down” is a sound source recorded at Monnow Valley Studio, and it is the first take that came out in the world by the planning of Chasing The Sun.Track 02 – Track 10 are tapes recorded and mixed at Sawmills Studios and Eden Studios. This tape was circulated in January 2023 and is the centerpiece of this title. It is a well-known fact to enthusiastic fans that the recording of the debut album “Definitely Maybe” was difficult, but this track is a take that gives a glimpse of the progress of the difficult recording. It connects the demo recorded in DISC ONE and “The Burnage Years 1988-1993” and the officially released take, so please listen and compare.
Also, it was the first time that it was revealed that there was a studio take on Track 10 “I Am The Warlus”, and the difference from the officially released live take is remarkable, so it will be an irresistible track for fans. deaf.
Track 11 ‘Supersonic’ is the sound source of oasis’ first TV appearance “The Word”. Track 12 ‘Sad Song’ is a demo take with Liam on vocals. Tracks 13-15 were recorded at Maison Rouge Studios in June 1994, and this “Some Might Say” would be a familiar take for Japanese fans.
In this way, as a session sound source for the album “Definitely Maybe”, it will be an important title to know the oasis before debut along with “The Burnage Years 1988-1993”. Permanently preserved press board with beautiful picture disc specifications.
本作は、当Bayswaterレーベルが2010年にリリースした『The Burnage Years 1988-1993』リリース後に、新たに発掘されたデビュー前の音源を主として収録したタイトルになる。以下、簡単に各音源の紹介をする。
【DISC ONE】
Track 01-03は、1991年秋にアンコーツのブロッサム・ストリートにあるOut of the Blue Studiosで行われたオアシス初のデモ・セッションテープである。トニーが左官仕事をした後、バンドはこのセッションを無料で手に入れた。2003年にeBayに出品されたこのテープのインレイにはノエルの名前があるが、セッションの時期とノエルのバンドへの加入時期を考慮すると、このセッションはノエル抜きで録音されたものであろう。3曲ともにリアムとボーンヘッドのペンによるものである。
Track 04-14は、マンチェスターのThe Boardwalk Basement、ロンドンのThe Real Peoples Studioにて収録されたデモから構成されるテープであり、多くのファンの寄付によって世に出たデモテープがソースである。
特筆すべき曲が2曲あり、Track 07の「Comin’ On Strong」は、The Chemical Brothersとノエルの初のコラボレーション曲「Setting Sun」の原型であり、リアムがヴォーカルを取っている。また歌詞もリリースVerとは異なる。
Track 08「Lock All the Doors」は、アルバム『Be Here Now』期にリリースされたシングル「Stand By Me」のBサイド「My Sister Lover」の初期バージョンであり、こちらも歌詞が異なる。また、Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birdsの同名曲のコーラス部も使用されている。
Track 15の「Married With Chirlden」はマークコイルの自宅で録音したデモ、Track 16の「Slide Away」は1993年12月にノエルがマンチェスターのラジオ局で弾き語りをしたレアなトラックを収録している。
【DISC TWO】
Track 01「Bring It On Down」はMonnow Valley Studioで収録された音源であり、Chasing The Sunの企画により初めて世に出たテイクである。
Track 02 – Track 10はSawmills StudiosとEden Studiosで収録とミックスがなされたテープ。このテープは2023年1月に出回ったものであり、本タイトルの目玉である。デビューアルバム『Definitely Maybe』のレコーディングが難航していた事は熱心なファンには周知の事実であるが、本トラックはまさにその難航していたレコーディングの途中経過を垣間見ることができるテイクである。DISC ONEや『The Burnage Years 1988-1993』に収録されているデモと、オフィシャルリリースされたテイクの間を繋ぐものであり、ぜひ聴き比べて欲しい。
また、Track 10 「I Am The Warlus」にスタジオテイクがあったことは今回初めて判明した点であり、オフィシャルリリースされたライブテイクとの違いも顕著であるため、ファンにはたまらないトラックとなるであろう。
Track 11の’Supersonic’はoasis初のTV出演となった”The Word”の音源。Track 12の’Sad Song’はリアムがボーカルを取っているデモテイク。Track 13-15は1994年6月にMaison Rouge Studiosで録音されたものであり、この「Some Might Say」は日本のファンであれば馴染み深いテイクであろう。
このようにアルバム『Definitely Maybe』のセッション音源として、『The Burnage Years 1988-1993』と共にデビュー前のオアシスを知る重要なタイトルとなる。美しいピクチャーディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。
