The legendary rare track series “OUTCESTICIDE” in the history of sound sources, which is comparable to the official works. The latest bullet is now available on the Permanent Preservation Press CD.
[The sequel to the series that was killed instantly]Needless to say about the “OUTCESTICIDE” series. A collection of unreleased studio tracks and extremely rare live performances, it has reigned as the “most famous / most popular bootleg” since the 90’s. It is a series that can be said to be synonymous with NIRVANA sound source, with unparalleled rarity and quality. The original series has been stopped for a long time since the 5th “OUTCESTICIDE V: DISINTIGRATION” announced in 1998. Rumors of “the sixth release!” Have been heard and disappeared (although there are countless copies and fake sequels).
It was February 2022 that such a legendary series really started to move. The sequel was really announced. Of course, collectors all over the world are shaking. I was surprised while becoming a suspicious demon, “Is it really real !?” However, an incident occurred here. It was discontinued shortly after it was released. According to one theory, it is rumored that pressure was applied by collectors, but the truth remains unknown. Only a very small number of people, which are said to be 10 or less in actual sales, came out to the world and stopped.
Of course, the core enthusiast who got the very few real things is released on the net. If you’re an avid collector, you know that copyboards are already on the market. This work also originates from the super rare real thing “OUTCESTICIDE 2022”, but it is not exactly the same. Researchers specializing in NIRVANA go into detail and investigate and verify. It is one that has been upgraded further. There are three major upgrade points.
★ Treatment of rough editing marks
First of all, the slightly rough original editing marks have been beautifully arranged. Of course, I haven’t made any changes to the essential playing sound, but the original version has a strangely long silent part and a click feeling. In this work, the degree of perfection as a musical work is also important, and such ara is neatly arranged (there is no omission due to fading etc.).
★ Complements the lack of the original board
The biggest one is this. The original version was lined with astonishing rare takes, but there were also two tracks that needed to be complemented. One is HOLE’s “Closing Time”. In the original version, it was only played, but in this work, comments by BBC’s famous DJ John Peel have also been added.
The other is the cart home demo “Old Age”. The original version was “4:43”, but there was originally an intro and an untitled unreleased song (called “Screen” among collectors). In this work, it is reproduced in full length from the best quality tape. Due to the increase in these two places, this work is more than 2 minutes longer than the original version (and its copy version).
★ Corrected mistakes in recorded data
This is not directly related to the sound, but the original version had a credit mistake for only one take. The live take of “The Man Who Sold The World” was credited as “December 29, 1993 San Diego performance”, but the next day, “December 30, 1993 Inglewood performance”. In this way, this work has been refined by thorough verification that goes back not only to the position but also to the origin.
The treasure group of all 18 tracks is engraved in this work, which has been permanently preserved after further improvement in accuracy. The actual CD has a random structure as in the original version, but for the sake of clarity, we will divide it into “studio recording” and “live recording” and rearrange them in chronological order.
[Studio recording (8 tracks)] ● April 1990 session (2 songs)“Sappy (Mix 2)” “Lithium (Mix 3)”
Studio recording can be roughly divided into three. The oldest session was in April 1990, when Chad was still enrolled. It is a take that will be released for the first time in Japan with two songs, “Sappy” and “Lithium”.
● May 1991 “NEVERMIND” session (2 songs)
“Sappy” “Lounge Act”
Next are 2 tracks of the session during the production of “NEVERMIND”. “Lounge Act” could be heard in the box “WITH THE LIGHTS OUT”, but the high-quality sound version leaked in 2015 is used in this work. “Sappy” is also a take that leaked in 2015.
● April 1992 session (2 songs)
“Return Of The Rat (Inst MIX)” “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle (Inst MIX)”
Two songs recorded at “Laundry Room Studio”. “Return Of The Rat” is a cover recorded for WIPERS’tribute album “8 SONGS FOR GREG SAGE AND THE WIPERS”. On the other hand, “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle” was also on the 20th anniversary edition “IN UTERO”, but this work is a different mix.
● Other demos (2 songs)
・ “Screen / Old Age (Home Demo)” “Closing Time (January 21, 1993)”
The aforementioned “Screen / Old Age” is a home demo of Kurt, and the specific recording date is unknown. It seems that it was the period from spring 1991 to autumn 1992. “Closing Time” is also the demo of HOLE mentioned above. It was also recorded in “OUTCESTICIDE II”, but this time it is an upgrade take that is even longer and has better sound quality. [Live recording (10 tracks)]
● “BLEACH” era (1989: 2 songs)
“Mr. Mustache (November 3rd)” “Where Did You Sleep Last Night? (November 29th)”
Soundboard live in November 1989 when Chad was enrolled. “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” Is a take from the Geneva performance that was premiered worldwide.
● “NEVERMIND” era (4 songs)
・ 1991 “Come As You Are (AUD: September 16th)”
・ 1992 “The Money Will Roll Right In (July 2nd)” “Rape Me (September 11th)” “In Bloom (October 30th)”
4 takes have been excavated from the “NEVERMIND” era, which became a darling of the times. The live performances of this work are basically all the best sound boards, but only “Come As You Are” is an audience recording.
● “IN UTERO” era (1993: 4 songs)
・ Before joining Pat “Serve The Servants (April 9th)”
・ After joining Pat, “Oh, Me (MTV rehearsal)” “Unknown Jam (December 29)” “The Man Who Sold The World (December 30)”
In 1993, one song was recorded before joining Pat Smear, and three songs were recorded after joining. Especially different is “Oh, Me”. This is not a stage live but a rehearsal of “MTV UNPLUGGED IN NEW YORK” at that time. Like the main board, Lori Goldston and Chris & Kurt Kirkwood are also participating.
The above is a collection of hidden treasures covering 73 minutes and 18 tracks in total. A phantom masterpiece that disappeared into the dark at the same time as the excavation, making it the latest work of the legendary series that was acclaimed as “greater than the official work”. One of the most talked-about works in 2022, upgraded by researchers from all over the world. Please enjoy it anytime, forever with the permanent storage press CD.

It was the first time this song was heard by collectors and fits nicely with this major upgrade. John Peel was a big fan of Nirvana and Hole.
Track 14: Screen / Old Age
The Outcesticide 2022 CD misses the opening 30 second untitled song from this home recording, known to collectors as’Screen’. We have included’Screen’ here from the same source tape.

【瞬殺されたシリーズ幻の続編】
“OUTCESTICIDE”シリーズについては、今さら語るまでもないでしょう。未発表のスタジオ・トラックや激レアなライヴなどを集成し、90年代から「最も有名／最も人気の高いブートレッグ」として君臨。レア度でもクオリティでも比類なく、NIRVANA音源の代名詞とも言えるシリーズです。オリジナル・シリーズは1998年に発表された第５弾『OUTCESTICIDE V: DISINTIGRATION』以来、長らく打ち止め。「第６弾が出るぞ！」という噂が幾度となく流れては立ち消えてきました（コピーやフェイク続編の類は数限りなく存在しますが）。
そんな伝説シリーズが本当に動き出したのが2022年２月。まさかまさかの続編が本当に発表となったのです。もちろん無論、世界中のコレクターが震撼。「本当に本物か!?」と疑心暗鬼になりつつも驚喜したのです。ところが、ここで事件が発生。リリースされた直後に販売が中止されたのです。一説によるとさるコレクター筋から圧力がかかったとも噂されていますが、真相は不明のまま。実売で10枚以下とも言われる極少数だけが世の中に出ただけでストップしてしまったのです。
【研究家によるさらなるアップグレード仕様をプレス化】
もちろん、その極少数の実物を手に入れたコア・マニアがネットで公開。熱心なコレクター諸兄なら、すでにコピー盤が出回っている事もご存知のことでしょう。本作もまた、超激レアな実物『OUTCESTICIDE 2022』を起源としているのですが、まったく同じでもない。NIRVANA専門の研究家たちが微に入り細に入って調査検証。さらにアップグレードさせた１枚なのです。そのアップグレード・ポイントは大きく３つあります。
★ラフな編集痕をトリートメント
まず第一に、やや雑だったオリジナルの編集痕を美しく整えました。もちろん肝心の演奏音には一切手を加えていませんが、オリジナル盤は無音部が妙に長かったり、クリック感があったり。本作は、音楽作品としての完成度も大切にし、そうしたアラを綺麗に整えています（フェイド等による欠落は一切ありません）。
★オリジナル盤の欠けを補完
一番大きいのはコレ。オリジナル盤は驚愕のレア・テイクがズラッと並んでいたのですが、補完の必要なトラックも２つありました。１つはHOLEの「Closing Time」。オリジナル版では演奏のみでしたが、本作ではBBCの名物DJジョン・ピールによるコメントも追加されています。
もう１つはカートのホームデモ「Old Age」。オリジナル盤では「4:43」でしたが、本来はイントロと無題の未発表曲（コレクター間では「Screen」と呼ばれています）もあった。本作では、ベスト・クオリティのテープから全長で復刻されています。この２ヶ所の増量により、本作はオリジナル盤（やそのコピー盤より）２分以上長くなっているわけです。
★録音データのミスを修正
これが音とは直接関係ないのですが、オリジナル盤は１テイクだけクレジット・ミスがありました。「The Man Who Sold The World」のライヴ・テイクが「1993年12月29日サンディエゴ公演」とクレジットされていましたが、本当はその翌日「1993年12月30日イングルウッド公演」。このように、本作は位置だけでなく出自にまで遡った徹底的な検証で磨き込まれているのです。
そうして更なる精度アップを経て永久保存された本作に刻まれているのは、全18トラックによる秘宝群。実際のCDはオリジナル盤通りのランダムな構成となっていますが、ここでは説明しやすいように「スタジオ録音」「ライヴ録音」に分け、時系列に並べ直してご紹介します。
【スタジオ録音（８トラック）】
●1990年４月セッション（２曲）
「Sappy（Mix 2）」「Lithium（Mix 3）」
スタジオ録音はおおきく３つに分けられます。最も古いのは、まだチャドが在籍していた1990年４月のセッション。「Sappy」「Lithium」の２曲で、本邦初公開となるテイクです。
●1991年５月『NEVERMIND』セッション（２曲）
「Sappy」「Lounge Act」
続いては『NEVERMIND』制作中セッションの２トラックです。「Lounge Act」はボックス『WITH THE LIGHTS OUT』でも聴くことが出来ましたが、本作に採用されているのは2015年に流出した高音質バージョン。「Sappy」も2015年に流出したテイクです。
●1992年４月セッション（２曲）
「Return Of The Rat（インストMIX）」「Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle（インストMIX）」
“Laundry Room Studio”で録音された２曲。「Return Of The Rat」はWIPERSのトリビュート盤『8 SONGS FOR GREG SAGE AND THE WIPERS』のために録音されたカバーです。一方の「Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle」は20周年盤『IN UTERO』にもありましたが、本作は別ミックスです。
●その他デモ（２曲）
・「Screen / Old Age（ホームデモ）」「Closing Time（1993年１月21日）」
前述した「Screen / Old Age』はカートのホームデモで、具体的な録音日は不明。1991年春から1992年秋の期間だったと思われます。「Closing Time」も前述したHOLEのデモ。『OUTCESTICIDE II』にも収録されましたが、今回はさらに長く、音質も良いアップグレード・テイクです。
【ライヴ録音（10トラック）】
●『BLEACH』時代（1989年：２曲）
「Mr. Moustache（11月３日）」「Where Did You Sleep Last Night?（11月29日）」
チャドが在籍していた1989年11月のサウンドボード・ライヴ。「Where Did You Sleep Last Night?」は全世界初演だったジュネーヴ公演のテイクです。
●『NEVERMIND』時代（４曲）
・1991年「Come As You Are（AUD：９月16日）」
・1992年「The Money Will Roll Right In（７月２日）」「Rape Me（９月11日）」「In Bloom（10月30日）」
時代の寵児となった『NEVERMIND』時代からも４テイクが発掘。本作のライヴは基本的にすべて極上サウンドボードですが、「Come As You Are」だけはオーディエンス録音です。
●『IN UTERO』時代（1993年：４曲）
・パット加入前「Serve The Servants（４月９日）」
・パット加入後「Oh, Me（MTVリハーサル）」「Unknown Jam（12月29日」「The Man Who Sold The World（12月30日）」
1993年はパット・スメア加入前が１曲、加入後から３曲を収録しています。特に異質なのは「Oh, Me」。これはステージ・ライヴではなく『MTV UNPLUGGED IN NEW YORK』の当時リハーサル。本盤と同じく、ロリ・ゴールドストンやクリス＆カート・カークウッドも参加しています。
