これまで聴いていないショウが聴けるだけでもありがたいのですが、本作のクオリティはそれどころではない凄まじさ。それこそ、初のプレスCD化を果たした『PARIS OLYMPIA 2018』にも肉薄する超極上サウンドなのです。その凄さはちょっと言葉にし難い。骨太な芯と肉厚な鳴りを兼ね備えつつ、ディテールは一切隠されず、ギターのちょっとしたピッキングニュアンスも克明なら、ベースの重低音は五臓を震わせ、バスドラの１発が六腑を揺らす。しかも、迫力満点でありながら繊細。ピークになってもまったくビビらず、無音部は漆黒の深みを湛えている。鳴りの感触は『PARIS OLYMPIA 2018』の方がリッチな気もするものの、それもあくまで好みの次元で、人によっては本作の方を好まれたとしてもまったく不思議ではない。本作もまたオーディエンスか、サウンドボードかの区別を無意味にする音楽記録の奇跡レベルに達する超名録音なのです。
正直なところ、本作も永久保存プレスでご紹介するところだったのですが、そうはならなかったのは極々ささやかながら欠点が存在したから。それは短いカット。「Lucifer Sam」中間部と「A Saucerful Of Secrets」冒頭がごくわずかに欠けているのです。もちろん、現代のデジタル録音にテープチェンジはあり得ないわけですが、どうもこの部分で機材にエラーが発生した模様。美意識の高い録音家は、そのエラー音を他人に聴かせることを良しとせず、綺麗に削って公開したのです。もちろん、それだけプライドのある録音家が荒っぽい仕上げにするはずがない。編集されたパートも見事に整えられており、ちょっと聴いただけでは一体どこにカットがあるのか分からない。極めつけの美麗サウンドが絶え間なく全編を貫くライヴアルバムなのです。
惜しいところで頂点超えを果たせなかった本作ですが、ショウそのものは『PARIS OLYMPIA 2018』以上かも知れない。上記日程をご覧の通り、かのプレス・タイトルはヨーロッパ大陸７公演目であり、本格ツアー始動からまだ間もない頃。もちろん、コンビネーションはすでに完成していましたが、一瞬の気の緩みはなくもなかった。例えば「Astronomy Domine」の冒頭でドラムが乱れ、演奏が混乱するシーンもあったわけです。それに対し、本作のチューリッヒ公演は大陸編の最終日。各国を巡りながら曲や構成が全身に馴染み、ニック曰く「私たちもだいぶ進歩した」と語る通りのこなれたアンサンブルを聴かせてくれるのです。

現在もなお、最高峰は『PARIS OLYMPIA 2018』に間違いありませんが、かの超名盤も孤高ではなかった。ホンのわずかな欠けのために頂点を更新はしなかったものの、本作もほぼほぼトータルで肩を並べてしまう超傑作です。決して公演数の多いツアーではないにも関わらず、これほどの超録音が２本も登場する事自体、いかにNICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETSが魅力的で、いかに録音家を惹きつけて止まないかの証左でもあるわけです。
練度を高めたショウを超極上サウンドで体験できる無類の２枚組。これだけ多産なライヴアルバム群の中でも特別な１本であり、単にコンプリーター用の次元を超えたライヴアルバム。どうぞ、存分に極めつけの美音をお楽しみください。
