The legendary label “So What”, which received tremendous trust from Miles Davis lovers and produced numerous masterpieces. Under the complete supervision of the “So What” label, “Voodoo Down Records (hereafter VDD)” was launched at the end of 2020. The depth of trust can be seen from the fact that it was allowed to list the label name of “SO WHAT!” For the first time. Careful remastering, discerning artwork with obi, and a beautiful picture disc press board. Although it is a new label, it is a new release from this label, which is already attracting attention as a must-have item for Miles collectors.
This time we will release the 1985 Copenhagen performance. Although the main sound source of VDD was from the 70’s, it was well received by “Brussels Concert ’82” and decided to release it outside the 70’s. The next focus after 1982 was 1985. For the time being, I focused on this Copenhagen performance as something suitable for becoming the definitive edition in 1985. The formation of the band has changed just before the start of 1985, Mike Stern returned to the guitar that was John Scofield, Adam Holzman was additionally convened for the keyboard, and Marilyn Mazur was additionally convened for the percussion. The household is swollen and thickened. The set list is centered around the album “You’re Under Arrest”, and the achievements of Miles, who was deeply pursuing pop music at that time, are fully studded. A crying trumpet, Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature”. Full of listening places such as Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” with outstanding arrangement. And noteworthy is the unreleased song “Rubber Band”. This song has been played very few times even in live performances, and the completely recorded sound source is extremely valuable. Moreover, it is a sound board with shiny sound quality. This Copenhagen performance has, of course, been released by several labels, but this time VDD has released the definitive edition that sets it apart. Although it is a sound board, the sound quality is not good, and it is not completely recorded, so there are no drawbacks that have existed until now. マイルス・デイヴィスの愛好家から絶大の信頼を受け、数々の名盤を生み出した伝説のレーベル“ソー・ホワット”。その“ソー・ホワット”レーベルの完全監修を受け、2020年末に発足したのが“ヴードゥーダウン・レコーズ（以後VDD）”です。初めて“SO WHAT!”のレーベル名を記載することを許可されたことからも信頼の厚さがうかがえます。丁寧なリマスタリングに、こだわりの帯付アートワーク、美麗なピクチャー・ディスクのプレス盤。新鋭レーベルながら早くもマイルス・コレクター必携アイテムとして注目を集めている本レーベルから新作のリリースです。
今回リリースするのは1985年のコペンハーゲン公演。VDDは70年代の音源が主力となっていましたが『ブリュッセル・コンサート・’82』の好評を受け、70年代以外もリリースしていく覚悟を決めました。82年の次に注目したのは85年。とりあえず85年の決定版となるに相応しい内容のものとしてこのコペンハーゲン公演に着目したのです。バンドの編成は85年スタート当初のものとは直前に変わっており、ジョン・スコフィールドだったギターにはマイク・スターンが返り咲き、キーボードはアダム・ホルツマンを追加招集、パーカッションもマリリン・マズールの追加招集で所帯は膨れ厚みを増しています。セットリストはアルバム『ユア・アンダー・アレスト』のものを軸にしており、当時ポップスへも深い追及を見せていたマイルスの成果が存分にちりばめられています。泣きのトランペット、マイケル・ジャクソンの『ヒューマン・ネイチャー』。アレンジが抜群に素晴らしいシンディ・ローパーの『タイム・アフター・タイム』など聴き所満載。そして特筆すべきは未発表曲『ラバーバンド』。この曲はライヴでも極めて演奏回数が少なく、完全収録されている音源は超貴重。しかもピカピカ音質のサウンドボードです。このコペンハーゲン公演は、もちろん今までもいくつかのレーベルによりリリースされてきましたが、今回VDDよりリリースされてるのはそれらとは一線を画す決定版。サウンドボードながら音質がイマイチであったり、完全収録でなかったりと、今まであった欠点は皆無。2021年になり新たにデジタル化された新音源からのマスタリング収録です。ファンクの要素あり、バラードあり、マイルスのトレード・マーク泣きのミュート・トランペットあり、と聴き所満載の1985年マイルス決定版です。
