“May 23, 2000: Nagoya Diamond Hall” is imbued in this work. It is an excellent audience recording. At that time, Michael also reduced the Japan tour due to the aftermath of the 1998 “UFO Roundup Incident”. First and foremost, it was also the time when “Are you really going to do a live show?” was the most talked about topic. In order to evoke such a memory, let’s first unravel from the visit to Japan schedule at that time.

At our shop, “TOKYO 2000”, which is a reprint of the official video “LIVE IN JAPAN THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR 2000”, is also a staple, but that was the last day of the Japan tour. On the other hand, the Nagoya performance of this work is the first day of Lee. With the appearance of this work, it became possible to enjoy all performances except Yokohama.
This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, has a beautiful clear sound with a transparent atmosphere. It’s not a close-fitting type that can be mistaken for a sound board in terms of tone, but the fine details and the wonderful separate feeling are as good as the official video “TOKYO 2000” … or should I say, the bass was off. It is more balanced and powerful than the official video.
In addition, the feeling of being in a closed room unique to a live house is delicious. The sound of the performance rushes right in front of you, and you can see the Flying V vibrating right there. Moreover, the performance sound is not disturbed by cheers. Don’t get me wrong here, it’s not a sleazy venue. In fact, it’s the exact opposite, and the love of the audience who gathered regardless of the time when it was unpopular is real. Packing that passion into a narrow box, the density is so high that hot air is about to blow out of the speaker. However, the enthusiasm is strangely far away, and it does not enter between the performance. Where on earth is such a sweet spot in the narrow “Nagoya Diamond Hall”?
With such a clear sound, a treasure chest of famous songs dyed by a hidden famous singer: Keith Slack. Frankly speaking, the set is the same as “TOKYO 2000”, but let’s compare it with the more widely known rigid live album “THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR”.

However, his singing voice is a husky type that Michael likes, and his singing ability and compatibility with Michael are wonderful. It was also a rare existence that could inject further energy without destroying the image of Gary Burden. This work is a new excavation live album where you can experience the full show of such a precious era.
This work itself is a musical work with a wonderful sound, and when combined with the official video “TOKYO 2000” and the masterpiece “OSAKA 2000 (Shades 839)”, it is also a collection that archives a precious era. そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2000年５月23日：名古屋ダイヤモンドホール」。その絶品オーディエンス録音です。当時のマイケルは1998年の「UFO切り上げ事件」の余波もあってジャパン・ツアーも縮小。何よりもまず「本当にライヴをやるのか？」が一番の話題という時期でもありました。そんな記憶を呼び覚ます為にも、まずは当時の来日スケジュールから紐解いてみましょう。

以上、全４公演。当店では、公式映像『LIVE IN JAPAN THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR 2000』を復刻した『TOKYO 2000』も定番となっておりますが、あれはジャパン・ツアーの最終日。それに対し、本作の名古屋公演はイの一番となる初日。本作の登場により、横浜を除く全公演が楽しめるようになったわけです。
そんなショウを真空パックした本作は、透き通る空気感も美しいクリア・サウンド。音色的にもサウンドボードと間違えるようなド密着タイプではありませんが、事細かなディテールや見事なセパレート感は公式映像『TOKYO 2000』にも負けていない……と言いますか、ベースがオフ気味だったオフィシャル映像よりも均整が取れ、迫力もあるくらいです。
さらにライヴハウスならではの密室感も美味しい。演奏音がグイグイと目の前に迫り、すぐそこでフライングＶが振動しているのが分かる。しかも、その演奏音が歓声に邪魔されない。ここで誤解しないでいただきたいのは、シラけた会場ではないという事。実際には真逆でして、不人気な時期でも無関係に集まってきた観客達の愛は本物。その情熱を狭いハコに詰め込んだ密度は、スピーカーから熱風が吹き出しそうなほどです。しかし、その熱狂が不思議なほど遠く、演奏との間に入ってこない。狭い“名古屋ダイヤモンドホール”の一体どこにこんなスウィート・スポットがあるのか……聴けば聴くほど、そんな疑問にも囚われる名録音なのです。
そんなクリア・サウンドで描かれるのは、隠れた名シンガー：キース・スラックによって染め変えられた名曲の宝箱。ざっくばらんに言ってセットは『TOKYO 2000』と同一だったりするのですが、ここではより広く知られている硬式ライヴアルバム『THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR』との比較で記しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。『THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR』ではケリー・キーリングも結構な頻度で歌っていましたが、ここでは全編キース。当時のMSGはシンガーがコロコロ代わっており、特にキースはスタジオ作を残せなかった。しかも、MSGの他にはTAZ TAYLOR BANDやマイク・スラマーのSTEELHOUSE LANEなど、猛烈に玄人受けなバンドばかりという幻のシンガーなのです。しかし、その歌声はマイケル好みのハスキー系で、歌唱力もマイケルとの相性も素晴らしい。ゲイリー・バーデンのイメージを崩すことなく、更なるエネルギーを注入できる希有な存在でもあった。本作は、そんな貴重な時代のフルショウを体験できる新発掘ライヴアルバムなのです。
