“London performance on August 20, 1987” is sealed in this work. It is a super-superb audience shot that vacuum-packed the secret gig performed at “100 CLUB”. Anyway, it is a terrible image, but the position of the show to explain its meaning. This week, the decision video “DEFINITIVE CANADA 1986 (Shades 1616)” of “DAMAGE, INC. This is the schedule from the release of “MASTER OF PUPPETS” to the end of 1987. The world tour “DAMAGE, INC. Tour”, which also realized the first visit to Japan, ended with “Europe #3”, and then released the cover EP “GARAGE DAYS RE-REVISITED”. However, the tour accompanying the EP was not performed, and it was only 4 performances “Europe # 4” which mainly appeared in “MONSTERS OF ROCK 1987”. The London performance of this work is a warm-up gig that was performed on the first day under the pseudonym band “DAMAGE, INC.”.
It’s a really good time on set, but the quality of conveying that is amazing. As a type, it will be an “audience shot”, but it is the band officials who are shooting. It is taken at almost a horizontal angle from the stage sleeve. Therefore, even in a crowded club, the appearance of the members is a close-up, and the sense of stability is enormous. Moreover, the master freshness is the highest ever. Although it is the video quality of the analog era, there are almost no dubbing marks, and there is almost no twist, distortion, or white line noise. Exactly, it lets you skip the space-time of 35 years and experience the site as it is.

As mentioned above, it was the first one after the release of the EP “GARAGE DAYS RE-REVISITED”, so all songs other than “Green Hell” are shown. “The Small Hours” and “The Wait”, as well as “Leper Messiah” from “MASTER OF PUPPETS” are world premieres on this day (by the way, “Last Caress” is also the second time). Even more extreme is BUDGIE’s cover “Crash Course In Brain Surgery”. They played live with this intention both before and after. You can experience the ultimate rare site from the staff’s perspective.
It’s a dizzying rarity, but the scent of the scene makes even that dizzying. As mentioned above, it is a pseudonym secret gig, but if you call yourself “DAMAGE, INC.” two days before “MONSTERS OF ROCK”, it will not be a secret. The narrow club is packed with people at a ridiculous density, and as you can see, it’s over capacity. The audience in the front row touches James if they reach out their hands … or rather, they are almost lined up. The amount of heat is enough to make you sweat just by looking at the video, James is barefoot and wearing only a pair of pants, and household fans are lined up in front of the drum kit. As the show progresses, staff who seem to be security personnel will appear, but it is all they can do to avoid bumping into the members. Adding to the chaotic mood is trouble, and power outages occur. Moreover, many times with “Fade To Black” and “Leper Messiah”. The state where only the drums are ringing is chaotic, and the heat that you can see that the temperature has not dropped even when the performance stops is also abnormal. When the power comes back, I can’t get enough of the super realistic live feeling around “Highway Star”.
A true “absolute image”. I have dealt with many METALLICA images, but I have never seen such an amazing scene. Even though the one-time “Crash Course In Brain Surgery” alone is a super treasure, the whole story is too amazing to forget even that. ★ “August 20, 1987: 100 club performance” ultra-realistic audience shot. It is a secret gig that took place two days before MONSTERSOF ROCK under the pseudonym “DAMAGE, INC.”. The angle that seems to have been taken from the sleeve of the stage is very close and has an excellent sense of stability. The heat in the packed club is terrifying, and the mood of repeated blackouts is super realistic. これが『MASTER OF PUPPETS』発売から1987年いっぱいのスケジュール。初来日も実現したワールドツアー“DAMAGE, INC. Tour”は「欧州#3」で終了し、その後カバーEP『GARAGE DAYS RE-REVISITED』をリリースしました。ただし、EPに伴うツアーは行われず、“MONSTERS OF ROCK 1987”出演をメインとした４公演「欧州#4」だけでした。本作のロンドン公演は、その初日にして変名バンド「DAMAGE, INC.」名義で実施されたウォームアップ・ギグなのです。
何ともオイシイ時期の現場なのですが、それを伝えるクオリティも凄い。種別としては「オーディエンス・ショット」になるのですが、撮影しているのはバンド関係者。ステージ袖からほぼ真横アングルで撮っている。そのため、ギュウッギュウ詰めのクラブでもメンバーの姿が大写しですし、安定感も絶大なのです。しかも、マスター鮮度でも過去最高。さすがにアナログ時代のビデオ画質ではあるものの、ダビング痕がほとんどなく、ヨレも歪みも白線ノイズもほとんど見られない。まさに、35年の時空をすっ飛ばして現場そのままを体験させてくれるのです。
そして、そんな映像美で描かれるのは激レア曲の猛ラッシュ。その内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。前述のようにEP『GARAGE DAYS RE-REVISITED』リリース後の一発目だったわけで「Green Hell」以外の全曲を披露している。その「The Small Hours」や「The Wait」、さらに『MASTER OF PUPPETS』の「Leper Messiah」はこの日が全世界初演なのです（ちなみに「Last Caress」も二度目ですね）。さらに極めつけなのがBUDGIEのカバー「Crash Course In Brain Surgery」。彼らが生演奏したのは後にも先にもこの意図度きり。その究極レアな現場をスタッフ目線で体験できてしまうのです。
目も眩むような激レア度なのですが、それさえも霞んでしまうのが現場の薫り。前述のように変名シークレット・ギグではあるのですが、“MONSTERS OF ROCK”の２日前で「DAMAGE, INC.」を名乗っていたらシークレットになってない。狭いクラブはとんでもない密度で人が詰まっており、見るからに定員オーバー。最前列の観客は手を伸ばせばジェイムズに触れる……と言いますか、ほとんど並び立っている。その熱量は映像を見ているだけでも汗が滲むほどで、ジェイムズは裸足でパンツ一丁ですし、ドラムキットの前には家庭用の扇風機が並んでいる始末。ショウが進むとセキュリティと思しきスタッフも出てくるのですが、メンバーにぶつからないようにするので精一杯という状態なのです。その混沌ムードに追い打ちをかけるのがトラブルでして、停電が起きてしまうのです。しかも「Fade To Black」や「Leper Messiah」で何度も。ドラムだけドコドコ鳴っている状態もカオスですし、演奏が止まっても気温が下がってないのが分かる熱気も異常。電源が戻ったら戻ったで「Highway Star」で軽くチェックする辺りの超尾リアルなライヴ感も溜まりません。
まさに「絶対映像」。幾多のMETALLICA映像を扱って参りましたが、こんなにスゴい現場は観たことがありません。一度限りの「Crash Course In Brain Surgery」だけでも超お宝なのに、それさえも忘れてしまうほど全編がスゴすぎる。METALLICAの……いや、音楽ジャンル「ヘヴィメタル」の最強オーディエンス・ショットに違いない究極の１枚。どうぞ、刮目してご体験ください。
