METALLICA from the “KILL ‘EM ALL” era brought a new kind of music, “thrash metal,” to the whole world. We have decided to urgently stock the oldest professional shots that will allow you to witness the young heroic figure.
This work was filmed at the Chicago performance on August 12, 1983. This is the multi-camera pro shot. Speaking of 1983, the fateful change of Dave Mustaine → Kirk Hammett occurred, and METALLICA’s oldest video work “LEGENDARY QUARTET: THE SECOND GIG VIDEO” was also left. Furthermore, the live album “CHICAGO 1983 (Shades 1209)” with a similar title is also a standard. What is the position of this work in such a situation? This is the fateful year of 1983. Mustaine is still enrolled in “North America #1” in early spring, and “LEGENDARY QUARTET: THE SECOND GIG VIDEO” is an audience shot at that time. The Chicago performance of this work was the 15th performance of “North America #2” after the release of “KILL ‘EM ALL”. The live album version “CHICAGO 1983 (Shades 1209)” is in winter (December 15th), so it will be a separate performance in the fourth month. This work is METALLICA’s oldest professional shot, and at the same time, it is also the second oldest live video after “LEGENDARY QUARTET”.
That first professional shot was also included in the “KILL ‘EM ALL” box, but this work also seems to have been made into a DVD from the highest level master. Unfortunately, there is no sound for the first 17 minutes (from the beginning of the performance until the middle of the third song “Jump In The Fire”), which will not change this time. Please note that).
However, the quality is exactly official grade. The visual beauty is extremely vivid with no dubbing marks, and everything from James’ blonde hair being shaken up to the stains on Cliff Burton’s denim to the wrinkles on Kirk’s sweaty shirt is super clear. is. Of course, the six and a half songs (+ guitar solo) after “Jump In The Fire” are the best soundboard voices. Of course, there is no trace of the neatness of FM broadcasting, and the unprocessed sound is definitely connected directly to the mix desk. You can enjoy the feeling of synchronization in another dimension, as if the initial impulse of ultra-pure thrash metal is being poured directly into your brain, bypassing your eardrums. No matter how imperfect it is, I would like to make a press CD with just this sound.

The audio for the first 17 minutes is disappointing, and there are some momentary tape twists here and there. そんな本作が撮影されたのは「1983年８月12日シカゴ公演」。そのマルチカメラ・プロショットです。1983年と言えば、デイヴ・ムステイン→カーク・ハメットという運命の交代劇が発生し、METALLICA最古の映像作『LEGENDARY QUARTET: THE SECOND GIG VIDEO』も残された時期。さらに言えば、似たタイトルのライヴアルバム『CHICAGO 1983（Shades 1209）』も定番だったりします。そんな中で本作のポジションはいかなるものなのか。まずは、当時の活動概要から俯瞰してみましょう。

これが運命の1983年。春先の「北米#1」はまだムステインが在籍しており、『LEGENDARY QUARTET: THE SECOND GIG VIDEO』はその時のオーディエンス・ショット。本作のシカゴ公演は『KILL ‘EM ALL』発売後となる「北米#2」の15公演目でした。ライヴアルバム版『CHICAGO 1983（Shades 1209）』は冬（12月15日）ですので、その４ヶ月目にあたる別公演。本作はMETALLICA最古のプロショットであると同時に、『LEGENDARY QUARTET』に次ぐ二番目に古いライヴ映像でもあります。
そんな初プロショットは『KILL ‘EM ALL』ボックスにも収録されたわけですが、本作も同レベルの最高峰マスターからDVD化されている模様。残念ながら冒頭17分（開演から３曲目「Jump In The Fire 」の途中まで）が無音なのは今回も変わりません（「音が出ない？」と思ってボリュームを上げすると後悔しますので、くれぐれも音量にご注意ください）。
しかし、そのクオリティはまさにオフィシャル級。ダビング痕のない超ビビッドな映像美が凄まじく、振り乱されるジェイムズのブロンド１本１本からクリフ・バートンのデニム付いた染み、汗で張り付いたカークのシャツのシワに至るまですべてが超鮮明です。もちろん「Jump In The Fire」以降の６曲半（＋ギターソロ）は極上サウンドボード音声。もちろんFM放送のような小綺麗さなど微塵もなく、遠慮会釈ない無加工サウンドは間違いなくミックス卓直結系。初期衝動丸出しな超純スラッシュ・メタルが鼓膜を飛び越して脳みそに直接流し込まれるような、異次元のシンクロ感を味わえる。いかに不完全とは言え、このサウンドだけでプレスCD化したいくらいです。
ここで余談を１つ。初期METALLICAのコレクターにとって「シカゴ」は特別。歴史的な名作が大量に生み出された聖地とも言えます。そのスゴ味は、記録を列挙してみるのが一番。当店コレクションで整理してみましょう。

返す返すも冒頭17分の音声は惜しいですし、ところどころで瞬間的なテープヨレもなくはない。しかし、そんなことはどーでもよくなるほど貴重で、極上で、強烈無比なマルチカメラ・プロショットです。必死に冷静を装って解説しておりますが、ついついヘドバンが止まらなくなって画面が見えないわ、手に力が入ってキーボードがぶっ壊れるわ。もう何度「Whiplash」をリピートしたか。カークと観客が力尽くでギターを奪い合うソロなんて熱すぎでしょ……。
まさに文化遺産以外の何物でもない超名作映像。衝撃の緊急入荷が決定です！
