“SAVE YOURSELF” A new upgrade master is discovered in the soundboard album that was the only and highest peak! A new masterpiece from a precious era is now available as a permanent press CD.
“Performance in Los Angeles on May 25, 1990” is engraved on this work. It is a stereo sound board recording recorded at the traditional venue “Palace Theater”. Speaking of the superlative live album of “SAVE YOURSELF Tour”, it is the earnest wish of the fans. During the “PERFECT TIMING” era, there were many famous records such as performances in Japan, and during the “MSG” era, when only unplugged live performances were performed, professional shots including official footage were mass-produced. However, “SAVE YOURSELF”, which is a masterpiece of the original hard rock route, is quite a low production period even including audience recording. In recent years, our shop has been focusing on excavation, but we have not been blessed with a press-class decision board. It is this work that draws the curtain on such a frustrating history!
Before the quality that bothers me, first of all is the position of the show. Let’s take a bird’s-eye view from the activity summary of the “SAVE YOURSELF” era, which has few opportunities to introduce.

This is the 1989/1990 McAuley Schenker Group. From 1991, CONTRABAND co-starred with RATT and it became miscellaneous, but at this point it was simple. In 1989, there was no live performance with the release of “SAVE YOURSELF”, and in 1990, a short tour of about 40 performances was held in North America only. The Los Angeles performance of this work was a concert on the final day.
Such a show was known for its soundboard recordings, and was familiar to us as “SEQUENCE OF EVENTS (part of)”. Although this work is the same sound board, it is an upgrade master that was recently discovered from the prestigious “Krw_co”. The quality recorded directly from the analog sound board is, to put it mildly, “a different thing”. Conventional masters are stiff and noisy if the hiss is strong. I was the type to enjoy erasing the noise in my brain because it was precious. However, this work does not require any such brain work. The mix, which is too vivid to be called official grade, is the same as before, but the glossiness and vividness are like another dimension.
Moreover, this work is the highest peak board that has further arranged such a new master. Although it is incomparable to the conventional one, it suppresses the slight remaining high frequency noise and corrects the pitch and phase. In particular, the pitch changed randomly if it was the net original sound, but in this work it is stable and stable. We did not deceive the tricks such as gaining sound pressure, and increased the degree of perfection as a music work.
What you can enjoy with such a top-of-the-line updated soundboard is the truth of the extremely precious “SAVE YOURSELF Tour”. Let’s organize that set here.

… and it looks like this. Some songs such as “Save Yourself” and “This Is My Heart” have been revived at MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST in recent years, but “Get Down to Business” and “I Am Your Radio” are genuine “SAVE YOURSELF Tour”. Even “Bad Boys” and “Anytime” can be enjoyed in the original electric version. And the performance that spells such a set is also overwhelming. Robin McCauley, who had a beautiful voice of melancholy in the next unplugged project, barks here in a hard rock specification with a dos, and Michael, who is the key, cries and plays to show off his pride as a guitar hero.
At the end of such a full show, guest co-starring, which is the biggest highlight of this work, was also realized. Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker, whose birthday was this day, will appear and co-star in “Doctor Doctor”. Brothers co-starring has been realized many times, but the pathetic voice duet by Class & Robin is extremely valuable (Klaus’ microphone is off at the beginning, but it suddenly improves halfway through whether Robin gave up the microphone).

The “SAVE YOURSELF Tour” is different from the “PERFECT TIMING” era, when Michael’s presence was weak, and the “M.S.G.” era, when he sought a way out acoustically. It is a stereo sound board album that will be the decision board. A piece that permanently preserves the original master, which should be called a fan’s dream crystal. It’s a majestic birthday!

そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1990年５月25日ロサンゼルス公演」。伝統の名会場“パレス・シアター”で記録されたステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。“SAVE YOURSELF Tour”の極上級ライヴアルバムと言えば、ファンの悲願。『PERFECT TIMING』時代は日本公演などの名記録が数多く、アンプラグド・ライヴしかやらなかった『M.S.G.』時代は公式映像を始めとしたプロショットが量産された。ところが、本来のハードロック路線の名作である『SAVE YOURSELF』はオーディエンス録音を含めてもかなりの寡作期。近年では当店でもかなり発掘に力を入れてきたのですが、それでもプレス級の決定盤には恵まれてきませんでした。そんな歯がゆい歴史に幕を引くのが本作なのです！
その気になるクオリティの前に、まずはショウのポジション。なかなかご紹介する機会の少ない『SAVE YOURSELF』時代の活動概要から俯瞰してみましょう。

これが1989年／1990年のMcAULEY SCHENKER GROUP。翌1991年からCONTRABANDたRATT共演も出てきて雑多になりますが、この時点ではシンプルでした。1989年には『SAVE YOURSELF』リリースだけでライヴはなく、1990年は北米限定で40公演ほどの短いツアーを実施。本作のロサンゼルス公演は、その最終日にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウはサウンドボード録音が残されたことで知られ、当店でも『SEQUENCE OF EVENTS（の一部）』としてお馴染みでした。本作も同じサウンドボードではあるものの、ごく最近になって名門「Krw_co」から発掘されたアップグレード・マスターなのです。アナログ・サウンドボードから直接録音されたクオリティは、控えめに言って「まるで別物」。従来マスターはヒスも強烈ならゴワゴワでノイジー。貴重だからこそノイズを脳内消去して楽しむタイプでした。ところが、本作はそうした脳内作業が一切必要ない。オフィシャル級と呼ぶには生々しすぎるミックスは従来と同じではありますが、艶やかさも鮮やかさもまるで別次元なのです。
しかも、本作はそんな新マスターをさらに整えた最高峰盤。従来とは比較にならないとは言え、わずかに残っていた高周波ノイズを抑え、ピッチや位相も補正。特にピッチはネット原音のままだとランダムに変化していたのですが、本作ではビシッと安定。音圧稼ぎなどの小手先の誤魔化しはせず、音楽作品としての完成度を高めたのです。
そんな最高峰更新サウンドボードで楽しめるのは、貴重極まる“SAVE YOURSELF Tour”の真実。ここでそのセットも整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。「Save Yourself」や「This Is My Heart」など、近年のMICHAEL SCHENKER FESTで復活した曲もありますが、「Get Down to Business」「I Am Your Radio」は正真正銘“SAVE YOURSELF Tour”でしか演奏されていない。「Bad Boys」「Anytime」にしても本来のエレクトリック・バージョンで楽しめるのです。そして、そんなセットを綴るパフォーマンスも感無量。次のアンプラグド・プロジェクトでは哀愁の美声を聴かせたロビン・マッコーリーも、ここではドスの利いたハードロック仕様で吠えますし、肝心要のマイケルもギターヒーローとしての矜持を見せつけるように泣きに泣き、弾きに弾き倒してくれるのです。
そんなフルショウの最後には、本作最大の聴きどころでもあるゲスト共演も実現。この日が誕生日だったクラウス・マイネとルドルフ・シェンカーが登場して「Doctor Doctor」を共演する。兄弟共演は幾度も実現してきましたが、クラス＆ロビンによる哀感ヴォイス・デュエットは極めて貴重です（冒頭クラウスのマイクがオフ気味ですが、ロビンがマイクを譲ったのか途中で突然改善します）。

マイケルの存在感が薄かった『PERFECT TIMING』とも、アコースティックに活路を求めた『M.S.G.』時代とも異なる“SAVE YOURSELF Tour”。その決定盤となるステレオサウンドボード・アルバムです。ファンの夢の結晶とも言うべき大元マスターを永久保存する１枚。ここに堂々の誕生です！
