Led Zeppelin’s live recording seems to have been released with all kinds of live recordings, but some of them have not been reissued on press CDs for more than 20 years, and on the contrary, they have been completely overlooked. To do. This is New Haven on August 15, 1970, which will be released on a limited press CD for the first time in a long time. This tour is a legendary tour that “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL” was created. Although “LIVE ON ~” was outstanding in terms of sound quality, it was also a high-level period in terms of performance that “the famous performance was the default”, and in fact, Tulsa to Boston, and Auckland to MSG on the last day of the tour, etc. It was a time when a wonderful stage was being performed as a matter of course just to mention it.
Even in New Haven, a famous performance that seems to be the beginning of such a tour was unfolded, but only “RARE SHORT PARTY” by the nostalgic IQ label released this precious sound source on the press CD. After that, there was a title “BLUES EROTICA” that created the longest version at present using the extremely fragmentary “recorder 2” excavated in recent years, but it was a CD-R and even it was released 10 years ago. It was. Actually, this sound source, apart from them, only “recorder 1” has been released as a free gift CD-R many times under the title of “NEW HAVEN 1970”, and it has been well received.

However, this August, the longest version of the current version, which summarizes the two types of New Haven sound sources, was uploaded on the net. The information about the generation of the sound source is also clear, “recorder 1” is a low generation version with less deterioration after copying from the master twice reels (not a cassette), and “recorder 2” which is a supplementary staff is called a third generation. .. There are very few places where the latter appears, and since it is a patch staff to the last, the state of 3rd gen. May not be too worrisome. Even so, “recorder 1” is a sound source with many cuts, so the point that the ending of “Since I’ve Been Loving You” has come to be heard thanks to “recorder 2” is too high.
And if you have a free gift version, I would like you to compare it by all means, but this time “recorder 1” has only low generation, the freshness is improved and the sound quality is clearly improved with coarse sound quality. Before this version, the gift version will look extremely grainy. I wonder if you can listen to it with an upper feeling that is no longer comparable to past releases as well as gifts.

Certainly, it is a recording state with conspicuous roughness like a typical vintage audience, and there is no doubt that it is for enthusiasts in that respect. It is a minus that there are many cuts mentioned earlier. However, while being worried about the roughness, the fact that the performance is captured by a surprisingly large sound image is also a fact that it is a sound source that is surprisingly enjoyable for enthusiasts. Although it is incomparable to “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL” (that is too special), there are many sound sources such as Auckland and MSG that are far from the sound image when it comes to audience recordings for this tour and others. Under such circumstances, the closeness of the sound of this sound source is attractive.
In addition, the performance on this day was terrible … Or rather, the plant, which was in great shape, screamed and pulled the band. The first peak is the “Dazed And Confused” bowing section, and the band returns for about 10 minutes, and the aggressive development that can not be seen on other days on this tour will be nailed.
Even more amazing is “Whole Lotta Love”. Again, it is regrettable that the beginning of the performance was not recorded, but when the medley moved to “High Heeled Sneakers”, the plant screamed. We are in full control of the subsequent medley development. The awesome thing about the plant that naturally decides on a spectacular scream.
And the finale is the finale “Communication Breakdown”. Again, the band started playing “Good Times Bad Times”, guided by a plant that didn’t show any fatigue. Of course, “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL” was also seen in Auckland, but the scream of the plant here is intense. It’s no wonder that the audience is literally enthusiastic (it’s really jarring … bitter smile) in front of this awesome song. After all, the American tour from August to September 1970 is a masterpiece that is re-recognized as a special time. Not only the sound quality but also the pitch deviation is adjusted exactly, and the definitive edition of the rare show of maniac madness is finally released!

ありとあらゆるライブ音源がリリースされつくしてきたように思えるレッド・ツェッペリンのライブ音源ですが、その中には20年以上もプレスCDで再発されていない、それどころか完全に見過ごされてしまった音源というのも存在します。それが今回、久しぶりに限定プレスCDにてリリースされる1970年8月15日のニュー・ヘイブン。このツアーはあの「LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL」が生み出されたという伝説的なツアー。音質的には「LIVE ON～」が飛びぬけていたものの、パフォーマンス的には「名演がデフォ」というハイレベルな時期でもあり、実際にタルサにボストン、そしてオークランドにツアー最終日のMSGなど、ざっと挙げただけでも素晴らしいステージが当たり前のように披露されていた時期でした。
ニュー・ヘイブンでもそんなツアーの序盤らしい名演が繰り広げられていたのですが、この貴重な音源をプレスCDでリリースしてくれていたのは懐かしのIQレーベルによる「RARE SHORT PARTY」だけ。その後、近年発掘された極めて断片的な「recorder 2」を用いて現状最長版を作り上げた「BLUES EROTICA」というタイトルが存在しましたが、CD-Rだった上、それすら10年前のリリースだったのです。実はこの音源、それらとは別に「recorder 1」のみが「NEW HAVEN 1970」というタイトルで何度も無料ギフトCD-Rとしてリリースされ続け、しかも好評を博し続けてきたものでした。

ところがこの8月、改めてニュー・ヘイブン二種類の音源をまとめた現状最長版バージョンがネット上にアップロードされました。音源のジェネレーションに関する情報もはっきりしており「recorder 1」がマスターからリール二回（カセットではありません）のコピーを経た劣化の少ないロージェネ・バージョン、補填要員である「recorder 2」がサード・ジェネレーションというもの。後者の登場個所というのは非常に少なく、あくまでもパッチ要員ですので、3rd gen.という状態もあまり気にならないかもしれません。それでも「recorder 1」は何かとカットが多い音源ですので、特に「Since I’ve Been Loving You」のエンディングなどが「recorder 2」のおかげで聞かれるようになったポイントはあまりに高い。
そして無料ギフト・バージョンをお持ちの方なら是非とも聞き比べていただきたいのですが、今回の「recorder 1」はロージェネだけあって、鮮度が上がって粗い音質なりにはっきり音質が向上している。今回のバージョンの前では、ギフト・バージョンが極度にざらついた音質に映ることでしょう。もはやギフトはもとより、過去のリリース群とも比較にならないアッパー感で聞きこんでもらえるかと。

確かにビンテージ・オーディエンスの典型といった粗さの目立つ録音状態であり、その点マニア向けであることは間違いありません。先にも触れたカットが多いのがマイナス。しかし荒さが気になる一方、演奏が驚くほど大きな音像で捉えられているという点はマニアからすれば意外なほど楽しめる音源であるというのも事実。流石に「LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL」とは比較にならないものの（あれが別格すぎる）、本ツアー他のオーディエンス録音となればオークランドやMSGなど、音像が遠めな音源が多い。そんな中で本音源の音の近さというのは魅力的。
おまけにこの日の演奏が凄まじい…というか絶好調のプラントがやすやすと雄叫びを上げてバンドをぐんぐんひっぱってみせる。その最初の頂点が「Dazed And Confused」ボウイング・セクションが終わってバンドが戻って10分辺り、このツアーでも他の日には見られないようなアグレッシブな展開は釘付けとなってしまうのでは。
さらに凄いのが「Whole Lotta Love」。ここでも演奏の序盤が録音されていないのが惜しまれますが、メドレーが「High Heeled Sneakers」に移るとプラントが大絶叫。以降のメドレー展開の主導権を完全に握っています。壮絶なスクリームを当然のように決めるプラントの凄まじいこと。
そして極めつけはフィナーレ「Communication Breakdown」。ここでも全く疲れを見せないプラントに導かれてバンドが弾きだしたのは「Good Times Bad Times」。かの「LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL」はもちろん、オークランドなどでも見られた展開ですが、ここでのプラントのスクリームは強烈。この凄まじい歌いっぷりを前にオーディエンスが文字通り熱狂（ココさすがに耳障りです…苦笑）するのも当然かと。やはり1970年8月から9月のアメリカ・ツアーは特別な時期だったのだと再認識される名演。音質だけでなくピッチの狂いもきっちりとアジャストしてマニア狂喜のレア・ショーの決定版がようやくリリース！
