JUDAS PRIEST came to Japan for the first time in 3 years with the concept album “NOSTRADAMUS”. A superb original recording that conveys the scene is now available.
The performance of “September 29, 2008: Nippon Budokan” is imbued in this work. It is the best audience recording. “BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS (Shades 1599)” released the other day has been well received, but of course this work will be performed separately. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s check the position of this work from their Budokan history this time.

A total of 7 performances. In this way, our shop has archived all Budokan performances except 1986 in the “Turbo” era with live albums. In particular, three performances have been held between Rob Halford’s return and KK Downing’s withdrawal, and this work and the other day’s four-disc set “BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS” can be completed.
Moreover, this work is not only the same venue, but also a true sister work to the previous work “BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS”. In fact, both works are works by the same recording artist. And the sound also supports that fact. If you have experienced the previous work, I think you have already made up your mind, but if the core is very thick, there is no sense of distance at all. Along with that, the details are super clear and I wonder how it can be recorded so directly at the Budokan. Since the enthusiasm before the performance and between songs is real, I will not mistake it for a sound board, but I will forget it as soon as the performance starts. It is a superb sound that is completely apart from the audience and away from the Budokan.
A full show that is completely different from the previous work is depicted with such a sound. The set is the standard one of the “NOSTRADAMUS Tour” and is the same as the standard professional shot “THE VOICE OF GOD”. However, this time it is also a sister collection, so let’s organize it by comparing it with the previous work “BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS”.

… and it looks like this. The must-have staples are the same, but most of the rest are replaced. Especially “Rock Hard, Ride Free”, “Between the Hammer and the Anvil”, and the new song “Death” are delicious rare songs that have not been played since this tour. And the ultimate is “Eat Me Alive”. “Immorality” was playing most of the songs on the tour at the time, but the only one that was removed was “Eat Me Alive”. It was finally played live, but in fact, this song was only played on the “NOSTRADAMUS Tour”. In this work, you can experience such rare songs at Nippon Budokan (this means that you can experience all the songs of “Immorality” when combined with “FAST & FURIOUS”).
The next year, 2009, Kotetsukami came to Japan to perform at LOUD PARK, but KK Downing left after that. The golden frontline has collapsed. It is rumored that they will be co-starring at this year’s “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” ceremony, but now that Glenn Tipton is ill, “The Budokan where those three people line up” is the last. You may lose it. This work is a hidden treasure album that allows you to fully experience such a memorial night with super direct sound. Together with the sister work “BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS”, please enjoy the blissful era to your heart’s content.

★ “September 29, 2008: Nippon Budokan” performance recording of the best audience. A sequel to the same recordingist collection as “BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS (Shades 1599)”, with a very similar sound. If the core is very thick, there is no sense of distance at all. 渾身のコンセプト・アルバム『NOSTRADAMUS』を引っさげ、３年ぶり来日公演に臨んだJUDAS PRIEST。その現場を伝える極上オリジナル録音が登場です。
そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2008年９月29日：日本武道館」公演。その極上オーディエンス録音です。先日リリースされた『BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS（Shades 1599）』も好評を賜っておりますが、もちろん本作は別公演。良い機会でもありますので、今回は彼らの武道館ヒストリーから本作のポジションを確かめてみましょう。

以上、全７公演。このように、当店では『ターボ』時代の1986年以外すべての武道館公演をライヴアルバムでアーカイヴしてきました。特にロブ・ハルフォード復帰からＫＫダウニング脱退までの間に３公演行われており、本作と先日の４枚組『BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS』でコンプリートできるわけです。
しかも、単に同会場なだけでなく本作は前作『BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS』と正真正銘の姉妹作。実は両作は同じ録音家による作品なのです。そして、サウンドもその事実を裏付けるもの。前作を体験された方ならもう心を決めていらっしゃると思いますが、芯も極太なら距離感もまったくナシ。それに伴ってディテールも超鮮明でして武道館でどうやってこれほどダイレクトに録れるのか不思議。開演前や曲間の熱狂がリアルですのでサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、それも演奏が始まるとすぐ忘れてしまう。まったくもってオーディエンス離れ、武道館離れした極上サウンドなのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるのは、前作とは様変わりしたフルショウ。セットは“NOSTRADAMUS Tour”の標準的なもので、ぶっちゃけ定番プロショット『THE VOICE OF GOD』と同一。ただまあ、今回は姉妹作コレクションでもありますので、ここでは前作『BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS』との比較で整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。絶対に外せないド定番は共通していますが、それ以外はほとんど入れ替え。特に「Rock Hard, Ride Free」や「Between the Hammer and the Anvil」、それに新曲の「Death」はこのツアー以降演奏していない美味しいレア曲です。そして極めつけなのが「Eat Me Alive」。『背徳の掟』は当時のツアーでほとんどの曲を演奏していましたが、唯一外されていたのが「Eat Me Alive」でした。それが遂に生演奏されたわけですが、実はこの曲も“NOSTRADAMUS Tour”でしか演奏していない。本作は、そんな激レア曲を日本武道館で体験できるのです（これはつまり『FAST & FURIOUS』と合わせると『背徳の掟』の全曲を武道館体験できるという事でもあります）。
翌2009年もLOUD PARK出演の為に来日を果たした鋼鉄神でしたが、それを最後にＫＫダウニングが脱退。黄金のフロントラインが崩壊してしまいました。今年の“ロックの殿堂”入りセレモニーで再共演が噂されてもいますが、グレン・ティプトンが病に冒された今となっては「あの３人が並び立つ武道館」は本作が最後になってしまうかも知れません。本作は、そんなメモリアルな夜を超ダイレクト・サウンドでフル体験できる秘宝アルバム。ぜひ姉妹作『BUDOKAN 2005 DAT MASTERS』とも合わせ、至福の時代を思う存分に味わい尽くしてください。
