Jimmy Page & Robert Plant / Budokan 1996 2nd Night: Dat Master / 2CD / Wardour
Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 6th February 1996
The “10 DAYS” master on the second day of the Budokan also has incredible sound quality. Regarding this day as well, the memory of the best audience recording of the original acquisition master “BUDOKAN 1996 2ND NIGHT” is new, but when it comes to this, it presents a high-level high-quality conflict. In contrast to “BUDOKAN 1996 2ND NIGHT” (hereinafter referred to as “existing board”), whose recording state was more powerful than the first day, the “10 DAYS” master has the reproducibility and spread of delicate and detailed details. The ease of listening that makes you feel is overwhelming.
After all, the set list and composition changed completely from the day before, and the live performance started with the quiet “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You”, which attracted a lot of attention from the time. This change was really surprising because the first day started with the most fixed pattern in Paige Plant’s live performance. At the same time, it was a pattern that could only be realized in Japan, where the live performance began in a quiet atmosphere, listening intently to the performance.
The “10 DAYS” master captured this quiet opening with a perfect balance. This recording, which is attractive for its delicate texture, and the unexpected opening of the day are excellent compatibility. On top of that, the voices of the surrounding people were not heard, and I was once again reminded of the greatness of the “10 DAYS” set, which spread such reproducibility in real time. Indeed, in 1996, when so many items were created, the high-quality sound that stood out by one head has not faded. The realism that fully inhaled the air on February 6, 1996, the sound image is very close while the delicate sound quality conveys it.
Also, as I said the day before, “Four Sticks” where various instruments are jumbled together on the stage reproduces the rich taste of the performance more than the “10 DAYS” set in 1996. Unique to the 2023 release. Of course, we tried to make a faithful CD of the original DAT master without adding any unnecessary equalization, but the true value of the technology was to reproduce a richer tone than the CD in 1996. It seems that the best example appears in “Four Sticks”, and if you want to feel the difference from “10 DAYS”, we recommend the same song.
Also, even if you take “Four Sticks” alone, the venue was excited from the first day, and it seems that the result led to the hot performance throughout. For such a fulfilling performance, I can’t help but think that the previous slow starter opening was successful.
Thanks to the superb audience, you can see how Paige’s switch was turned on without difficulty by eliminating the push-and-pull development of hard rock like the first day. In fact, Paige in “Thank You” is brilliantly playing phrases that remind us of the past, and this is also considered to be the result of the success of the opening pattern of this day. Then “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is a good one.
Because the sound quality is really wonderful, the riff of “Dancing Days” played by Paige who seemed to be awake, was also a big topic at the time. A riff reminiscent of the past was played in front of the audience gathered at the Budokan, enchanting those who were there. This unique feel can also be enjoyed with a realistic texture unique to the “10 DAYS” master.
In the first place, “Black Dog” was not played on the second day, and instead, in the second half of the live, a deep set list that would make you want to call it “In The Evening” and “Tangerine”, or a deep set list that you would like to call even if you refuse at first glance. The day when I saw it and it exploded, it was also a big topic among maniacs. The end is that “In The Light” is included in “Whole Lotta Love”.
On the second day of the performance in Japan in 1996, the legendary night that makes ZEP mania tears of tears is paired with “BUDOKAN 1996 2ND NIGHT” of the boned superb audience, this time’s delicate and beautiful “10 DAYS” two major giants of the master Is now in 2023. Combined with the first day of the simultaneous release, please enjoy the dramatic changes that occurred in just two days with the recording from the famous DAT master to your heart’s content!
