The performance of “May 26, 1999: Aichi Welfare Pension Hall” was imbued with this work. It is the superb audience recording. Above, all 9 performances. The symbol of the front is the TV broadcast professional shot, but the two major super-masterpieces “BLAST FROM THE EAST” & “ZEPP OSAKA 1999” are more than that in terms of both quality and performance. The Nagoya performance of this work is a live album that connects the two.
And the quality is not defeated by the super-famous boards … No, I’m surprised because it’s winning in a sense. It is made into a CD directly from the newly excavated Omoto DAT brought by its own route, but although it is close to “ZEPP OSAKA 1999” in the sense that it also sucks in hot cheers, this work is brilliant with a sharper edge. Already, the glaring terra terra on the finest sound board and official live board. In “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”, it took some time for the sound to stabilize (albeit slightly), but this work is superb from the first sound of the first “What Mama Said”. Other than the liveliness of the cheers, it’s not like a guest record.
Ah, no … there was another element that could be called “audience-like.” It’s a natural feeling. The hall noise that can be seen by closing the eyes and listening microscopically with headphones is also sucked in, which creates exquisite luster, shine and dynamism. In official works, it is a directing effect created by effects, but since this work is only the venue sound of the site, it has a natural reality without any intention. In other words, while being as beautiful as an official work, the unprocessed natural feeling is more than that. It is a live album with a dignity that is not an exaggeration to say that it is beyond the official.
Moreover, it is not only the sound that this work is transcendent, but also the show itself is one of the most enthusiastic performances. The set may be the same as “BLAST FROM THE EAST” and “ZEPP OSAKA 1999”, but it’s also a good opportunity, so let’s organize it here.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1999年５月26日：愛知厚生年金会館」公演。その超極上オーディエンス録音です。『WHO ELSE!』時代の来日と言えば大定番のテレビ放送が有名ですが、当店では他にも『BLAST FROM THE EAST（Transaction 001/002）』や『ZEPP OSAKA 1999（Wardour-214）』など、超絶級のタイトルを数多くご紹介してきました。そのコレクション整理も併せ、まずは当時のスケジュールからショウのポジションを確認しておきましょう。

以上、全９公演。オモテの象徴はTV放送プロショットになるわけですが、クオリティ／演奏の両面でそれ以上なのが２大超名盤『BLAST FROM THE EAST』＆『ZEPP OSAKA 1999』。本作の名古屋公演は、両者の間を繋ぐライヴアルバムなのです。
そして、そのクオリティが超名盤たちに負けていない……いや、ある意味勝っているからビックリ。独自ルートでもたらされた新発掘の大元DATからダイレクトにCD化されているのですが、熱い声援も吸い込んでいるという意味では『ZEPP OSAKA 1999』に近いものの、本作はさらにエッジ鋭くブリリアント。もう、極上サウンドボードや公式ライヴ盤ばりにギラッギラのテラッテラ。『ZEPP OSAKA 1999』では（わずかとは言え）音が安定化するまでに間がありましたが、本作は初っぱな「What Mama Said」の第一音からビシッと超極上。声援の生々しさ以外に、客録らしさがまるでないのです。
あ、いや……もう１つ「オーディエンスっぽい」と言える要素がありました。それは、ナチュラル感。目を閉じ、ヘッドフォンで顕微鏡的に聴くと分かる程度のホール鳴りも吸い込まれておりまして、それが絶妙な艶と照りとダイナミズムを生み出している。公式作品などではエフェクトなどで生み出す演出効果なのですが、本作は現場の会場音響だけなので作為のない自然なリアリティが宿っているのです。つまり、オフィシャル作品級の美しさでありつつ、無加工なナチュラル感はそれ以上。まさにオフィシャル超えと言っても過言ではない品格のライヴアルバムなのです。
しかも、本作が超絶なのはサウンドだけではなく、ショウ自体も屈指の大熱演。セットは『BLAST FROM THE EAST』『ZEPP OSAKA 1999』と同一だったりもしますが、良い機会でもあるのでここで整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。そして、特筆なのが創意と遊びに溢れた演奏ぶり。当時から（大名演となった前日の）神奈川公演にも負けないと言われていましたが、実際ジェフもノリノリで本当に楽しそう。話題になったビートルズの「A Day In The Life」ではネックの裏を叩いてノイズを出してみたり、「Space For The Papa」ではエンディングの一発を最前列の客に弾かせたり。「Big Block」では頭の後ろに担ぎ上げたギターをジェニファーに弾かせる……のはライヴアルバムなので見えませんが、飛び交うフレーズの自在ぶりにその溌剌としたテンションがアリアリと映し出されているのです。
『BLAST FROM THE EAST』『ZEPP OSAKA 1999』も１年に１本あればラッキーな……いえ、数年に１本レベルの超名盤でしたが、まさかその合間にも凄まじい名録音が記録されていたとは。当時は10年ぶりの来日だったわけですが、その10年間の幸運を一気に濃縮したようなジャパン・ツアーだったのです。クオリティ面でもオフィシャル級で、演奏では大定番プロショットも問題外にする新名盤。どうぞ、永久保存プレス２CDで存分にご堪能ください。
