The era of “YOU HAD IT COMING”, when “Dirty Mind” won the Grammy Award for the third time, and tour activities were also substantial. The sound board album that serves as the official substitute is reprinted with renewal artwork.
“Performance in London on July 29, 2001” is engraved on this work. It is a superb stereo sound board recording recorded in the traditional “Hyde Park”. Hyde Park has held festival-style concerts every year since 1998, and this year THE BEACH BOYS, Elton John, Tom Jones, STATUS QUO, Sting, and SUPERSISTER participated. Jeff Beck was a semi-bird appearance next to THE BEACH BOYS. First, let’s check the position of the show from the schedule at that time.

This is Jeff Beck after the release of “YOU HAD IT COMING”. In 2002, there were many event-like stages, and the main part of the tour was only in 2001. The Hyde Park performance of this work was also the final performance.
This work, which records such a stage, can only be called a “completely official grade” super-superior product. The “sound board” also has various qualities, and even if you say “official grade” in one word, it is a pin. From those that can only be used as bonus tracks to masterpieces, there is a wide range. Even by that standard, this work is a masterpiece. Not to mention the sound quality, mix, stereo feeling, stability, freshness …. Even if you look for Ara at every possible point, you can’t find it. As a matter of fact, I tried remastering when reprinting, but there was nothing I could do. Of course, it is possible to change the texture slightly, but if there is no meaningful change, we decided that it would be best to keep the original, so we reprinted it straight.
A live performance from the precious “YOU HAD IT COMING” era is depicted with such perfect quality. There was no Japanese performance on this tour, so let’s organize it here.
● Techno Rock (10 songs)
・Who Else! : Brush With the Blues/Blast From the East/Angel (footsteps)/Psycho Sam/What Mama Said
・You Had It Coming: Earthquake/Loose Cannon/Dirty Mind/Nadia/Rosebud
● Others (3 songs)
・Where Were You/Behind the Veil/A Day in the Life
… and it looks like this. It’s a short set of about 60 minutes only for the festival, but “WHO ELSE!” and “YOU HAD IT COMING” are concentrated and reduced. Backed by three people, Jennifer Batten, Steve Alexander, and Randy Hope Taylor, it is the culmination of the techno rock route. Of these, the “WHO ELSE!” number and “A Day in the Life” were also enjoyed on the 1999 visit to Japan “DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1999 (Wardour-275)”, but the others have been completely replaced. In Japan, where “YOU HAD IT COMING” was released in advance, I was able to listen to new songs in 2000, but I didn’t play the interesting intro “Behind the Veil” and the rare “Rosebud/What Mama Said” there. (By the way, the drummer who came to Japan in 2000 was Andy Gangadine).
After this, Jeff parted ways with Jennifer and others, and moved forward with his ambitious work “Jeff”, which even went as far as drum and bass. This work is a live album that will be the total settlement of such techno rock era. It is a super decision board that serves as “substitute for official work”. A music work that goes beyond the dimension of a mere masterpiece sound board and symbolizes “one era” for Jeff. It is a magnificent reprint here on a permanent preservation press CD.
* Superb stereo sound board recording of “Hyde Park performance on July 29, 2001”. It is a superb product of perfect official quality with perfect sound quality, mix and stereo feeling. It’s a short set of about 60 minutes only for the festival, but there are “WHO ELSE!” . Includes plenty of repertoire that you can’t hear even in the same member’s decision board “DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1999 (Wardour-275)”. It is a super-Ketteiban instead of the official, which will be the final settlement of the Techno Rock era.
