A total of 6 performances. What we have introduced so far in our shop was the middle / final stage of the tour, but the Nagoya performance of this work was the first day of the first stage, the beginning of the beginning.
Recorded at such a site, this work is a superb audience recording filled with clarity and neat beauty. It’s not a surprise sound like “AMAGASAKI 2010” where you can’t tell whether it’s a customer record or a line, but it’s a masterpiece by audience standards. The core is strong and stretches straight to the hand, and the details are vivid and clear, and the outline is dignified like a laser beam. On top of that, it is glossy and beautiful. The applause may be distorted between songs, but the essential performance sound is beautiful, and the slight hall sound does not hide the details and creates an indescribable luster. It’s easy to listen to like FM broadcasting, and yet you can fully enjoy the “beauty unique to the audience”.
With such a rich sound, the longest delicious night in Japan since 2010 was depicted. This year’s performance in Japan was basically the same selection and the song order was fine-tuned. However, Nagoya on the first day responded to the 2nd encore whether it was a trial, and there was one more song than other performances. Let’s put things in order here.

What’s more, the flow of the song alternates between stillness and motion. It was truly an “EMOTION & COMMOTION” show.
And the performance that spells out such a set is also wonderful. As a matter of fact, Jeff himself felt that the second half of the tour was the best, but Rhonda Smith & Narada Michael Walden’s new rhythm team was doing great from the beginning. He will show off plenty of powerful beats that became heavier than the previous year’s visit to Japan. Ronda is also a vocalist, and her singing voice uses both Coco Taylor-like dos and beautiful female voice growth, and it’s amazing that you can’t believe it’s a side job of a bassist.
Also, even if Jeff does not say, “The best performance of the tour!” It’s a full show that feels like it’s going to rise with a good response while blurring the feeling of fumbling unique to the first day.
In 2010, Jeff was on the wave, having come to Japan for the second year in a row. At that time, I thought, “Are you already here?”, but how luxurious it was. そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2010年４月５日：中京大学文化市民会館」公演。その一部始終を真空パックした絶品オーディエンス録音です。2010年の来日と言えば、プレス名盤『TOKYO 2010 FINAL NIGHT（Wardour-119）』が大定番として君臨しており、先日ご紹介した『AMAGASAKI 2010（Uxbridge 1820）』も大好評を賜っています。そんな中で本作のポジションはどんなものなのか。早速、来日スケジュールを振り返って確かめてみましょう。

以上、全６公演。これまで当店でご紹介してきたのはツアー中盤／終盤だったわけですが、本作の名古屋公演は序盤も序盤、イの一番となる初日でした。
そんな現場で記録された本作は、クリアさと端正な美しさを湛えた絶品オーディエンス録音。『AMAGASAKI 2010』のように客録かラインかも分からないようなびっくりサウンドというわけではありませんが、オーディエンス基準では十二分に大傑作。芯は力強く手元まで真っ直ぐ伸び、微細部まで鮮やかでクッキリと鮮やかな輪郭はレーザー光線のように凛々しい。その上で艶やかで美麗。曲間になると喝采がゆがみ気味だったりもしますが、肝心要の演奏音は美しく、ほんのりとしたホール鳴りもディテールを隠さず得も言われぬ艶を演出してくれる。FM放送ばりに聴きやすく、それでいて「オーディエンスならではの美」もたっぷりと味わわせてくれるのです。
そんな豊潤サウンドで画かれるのは、2010年来日でも最長となった美味しい一夜。この年の来日公演は基本的に同じセレクトで曲順を微調整していく感じでした。しかし、初日の名古屋はお試しだったのか2ndアンコールにも応え、他公演よりも１曲多かったのです。ここで、その内容を整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。『EMOTION & COMMOTION』の新曲を軸としながら幅広く選ばれており、わずか８曲だった直近の公式作『LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE FROM THE GRAMMY MUSEUM』とは比較にならない程の膨大な曲数です。しかも、曲順的にも静と動を交互に繰り返すような流れ。まさに『EMOTION & COMMOTION』なショウでした。
そして、そんなセットを綴る演奏も素晴らしい。実のところ、ジェフ自身はツアー後半の方が本領発揮という感じだったのですが、ロンダ・スミス＆ナラダ・マイケル・ウォルデンの新リズム隊は最初から絶好調。前年来日よりもヘヴィになった力強いビートをたっぷりと披露してくれる。ロンダはヴォーカルも務めているわけですが、その歌声はココ・テイラーのようなドスと女声らしい美しい伸びを使い分け、ベーシストの副業とは思えない素晴らしさです。
また、ジェフにしても「ツアーベストの名演！」とは言わないまでも決して不調ではなく、ショウが進むほどにフレーズに余裕も見えてくる。初日ならではの手探り感を滲ませつつ、手応えが良くて尻上がりになっていく……そんな感じのフルショウでもあるのです。
２年連続の来日も実現し、波に乗っていた2010年のジェフ。当時は「もう来たの？」とも思ったものですが、それがいかに贅沢な話だったのか。今さらのように痛感するライヴアルバムでもあります。そんな2010年最長のフルショウを絶品サウンドでフル体験できるオリジナル録音。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分人ご堪能ください。
