Ian Gillan in 1991 who revived the gold signboard of “Gillan” and slammed the soulful masterpiece “TOOLBOX”. A decision board with its symbolic sound board / professional shot is now available.
This work contains two records of one show. It is a two-disc set with DISC 1 for the stereo sound board recording of “November 4, 1991 Frankfurt performance” and DISC 2 for the multi-camera pro shot. First of all, the position of the show before the content of concern. Let’s look back on the activity summary at the time when the performance in Japan was also realized.

This is the full view of activities related to “TOOLBOX”. Although the invasion of North America, which is boiling with grunge alternative, did not come true, the circuit is wide ranging from Eastern Europe to South America. The scale of over 130 performances in one tour is a furious momentum that GILLAN never had before. Although it was a minor image period that was not much considered, it was also an era that was actually driven by intense passion. Continental Europe was the main battlefield. The Frankfurt performance of this work was the third performance of such “Europe # 1”.
This show has been known to have been broadcast on local TV stations for some time, and its professional shots reigned as a staple of GILLAN in the 90’s. It has been very popular with gifts and titles at our store. However, this show is broadcast not only on TV but also on radio. This work is a two-disc set that couples both such FM broadcast / TV broadcast with the best master. Let’s introduce each one individually.
However, unfortunately it is not a full recording. It seems that the program itself is well recorded because the DJ part is included at the beginning and end, but the program frame is shorter than the TV broadcast. [DISC 2: Long TV broadcast version pro shot] In order to get rid of that irritated tooth, we also set the standard pro shot in this work. It is the best master familiar with gift titles, and although the above audio quality is not as good as DISC 1, the persuasive power of multi-camera images is still strong. And above all, the point is that it is longer than the FM broadcast version. Let’s get things sorted out here.

… and it looks like this. After all, the point is the “TOOLBOX” number. “Dancing Nylon Shirt” has been performed twice, but both times the lyrics and structure are a mixture of “Part 1” and “Part 2”. While reviving GILLAN’s individuality, there are plenty of masterpieces of HR taste that are more dramatic than the 80’s. Only “Hang Me Out To Dry” will be played in the solo performance after returning to DEEP PURPLE, and the others are limited songs only for this tour. Especially “Blue Steel” is an unreleased song that was never recorded in the studio.
The 90’s GILLAN pursued a melodic HR that was different from both DEEP PURPLE and the 80’s GILLAN. It is a decision board set instead of the official that spells the live performance with FM sound board and TV pro shot. Although it is often overlooked, Ian Gillan’s rare era was actually a live show. Please enjoy this work of Best Master to the fullest.
★ A 2-disc set with DISC 1 for the stereo sound board recording of “November 4, 1991 Frankfurt performance” and DISC 2 for the multi-camera pro shot. The main item is a newly discovered FM broadcast master, a famous recording artist G.Mann collection. It is a wonderful sound board album with a vividly separated stereo feeling. One TV broadcast pro shot is also the best master, longer than FM broadcast. The “TOOLBOX” number limited to this tour and the unreleased song “Blue Steel” are also delicious 90’s GILLAN definitive editions.
「Gillan」の金看板を復活させ、入魂の名作『TOOLBOX』を叩きつけた1991年のイアン・ギラン。その象徴サウンドボード／プロショットをセットした決定盤が登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは１つのショウの２つの記録。「1991年11月４日フランクフルト公演」のステレオ・サウンドボード録音をDISC 1、マルチカメラ・プロショットをDISC 2に配した２枚組です。その気になる内容の前に、まずはショウのポジション。来日公演も実現した当時の活動概要から振り返ってみましょう。

これが『TOOLBOX』にまつわる活動全景。グランジ・オルタナに沸く北米侵攻こそ叶いませんでしたが、東欧から南米に至るまで地球を幅広くサーキット。１回のツアーで130公演を超えるスケールはかつてのGILLANでもなかった猛烈な勢い。あまり顧みられることのないマイナー・イメージな時期ながら、実際には激しい情熱に突き動かされた時代でもあったのです。そんな中でも主戦場だったのは大陸ヨーロッパ。本作のフランクフルト公演は、そんな「欧州#1」の３公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
このショウは以前から地元TV局で放送された事でも知られ、そのプロショットが90年代GILLANの大定番として君臨。当店でもギフト・タイトル等で大好評を博してきました。しかし、このショウはTV放送だけでなくラジオでも放送。本作は、そんなFM放送／TV放送の双方をベスト・マスターでカップリングした２枚組なのです。それでは、それぞれ個別にご紹介していきましょう。
【DISC 1：ステレオ放送のFMサウンドボード】
本作のメインとなるのは、新発掘のFM放送マスター。近年ドイツの名録音家として名を挙げている「G.Mann」コレクションから公開された銘品なのです。ところどころでドイツ語DJが挿入される構成やラフなミックスは「オフィシャル級！」と呼ぶにはワイルドすぎる気もしますが、そのクオリティはTV放送を凌駕している。特に鮮やかにセパレートしたステレオ感は絶大。公式ライヴ作品を残さなかった「90年代GILLAN」の公式代わりにもっとも近いライヴアルバムでもあるのです。
ただし、惜しむらくはフル収録ではない。冒頭と最後にDJパートが入る事からも番組自体はしっかり収録しているようなのですが、番組枠がTV放送より短いのです。
【DISC 2：長尺のTV放送版プロショット】
その歯がゆさを払拭するためにも、本作では定番プロショットもセットしました。ギフト・タイトルでもお馴染みのベスト・マスターで、音声クオリティは上記はDISC 1には及ばないものの、マルチカメラ映像の説得力はやはり強力。そして何よりFM放送版よりも長尺なのがポイント。ここでその内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。やはりポイントなのは『TOOLBOX』ナンバー。「Dancing Nylon Shirt」は２回演奏されていますが、どちらも歌詞や構成が「Part 1」と「Part 2」を混ぜた感じになっています。GILLANらしい個性を復活させつつ、80年代よりもドラマティックな様式美HRテイストの名曲群がたっぷり。DEEP PURPLE復帰後のソロ公演で演奏するのも「Hang Me Out To Dry」だけで、他はこのツアーだけの限定曲。特に「Blue Steel」に至ってはスタジオ録音されることのなかった未発表曲です。
DEEP PURPLEとも、80年代GILLANとも異なるメロディックHRを追究していた「90年代GILLAN」。その生演奏をFMサウンドボードとTVプロショットで綴る、オフィシャル代わりの決定盤セットです。見逃されがちながら、実はライヴ三昧だったイアン・ギランのレア時代。どうぞ、ベスト・マスターの本作で存分にお楽しみください。
