The master release from the UK heavyweight Taper, who is familiar with Eric Clapton’s treasured sound source, continues! Another, the DAT First Generation Master, which arrived from the heavyweight taper, was another rare and special charity concert sound source! Recently, the new master of “New Year’s Eve Dance”, which has become very familiar and highly acclaimed by customers, is a country town in Surrey, Clapton’s hometown on December 31, 2002. It is a complete recording of the charity concert held at the walking community center with a wonderful stereo audience recording. This concert was a charity event for AA (Alcoholics Anonymous Association) titled “New Year’s Eve Dance” that has been held every year since 1993. Originally in 1982, Gary Brooker, a member of the Clapton band at the time, participated in the “year-old live” held at a local pub, and Clapton liked this idea, and since then he has been intermittently at the end of the year. What has been done in 1993 became a regular sponsored by Clapton, and was established as “New Year’s Eve Dance” to perform live twice on New Year’s Eve night and New Year’s morning with a break. It has become customary for each band to be given a highly anonymous and humorous band name out of a sense of humor, and this year it was “THE USUAL BAND”. As the band name suggests, this event is always convened by British musicians, and this year it was a minimum organization of five people, including Clapton (unusually, regular keyboard player Chris Stin Ton didn’t attend, probably because of conflicting schedules, etc.). That’s why it was also a year where I could enjoy a simple and tight stage with my best friend Gary Brooker alone on the keyboard. This concert was intended to entertain members of the Alcoholics Anonymous Association, of which Clapton is also a member, and their families for free, and it was presumed that general fans could not see it. . However, in this world there is a flip side to everything. The heavyweight taper successfully infiltrated using the usual connection and succeeded in stereo recording with the finest sound quality with advanced equipment. The master of the heavyweight taper this time is amazing, anyway, the reality and power of the band’s musical tone. From the situation where the vocals are slightly off and closer to the right channel, it seems that the PA is on the right side of the stage, so it is definitely considered to be the front row recording. Moreover, in front of Clapton’s amplifier, you can clearly hear every note and nuance of Clapton’s backup play. I think that it is unbearable for Clapton fans. This event has a reputation for the members and set list being rare only at this time, and it is a concert that general fans can not enter, so it can be said that it is a maniacal envy. You can listen to it from the best DAT master of the first generation. This is another amazing thing. Now, let’s review what 2002, when this concert was held, had for Clapton.
[One and only live performance by gorgeous and rare members who embody the vitality of this well-rested year]・June 3: Appeared at “Party At The Palace”, an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation held at Buckingham Palace in London.
· August 3: Guest performance with his own band at the “Ferrari & Maserati Festival” held at Brands Hatch Racing Circuit in Kent, England.
· October 6: Appeared in a memorial concert for the late Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys held in Los Angeles and performed with Brian Wilson.
· October 19: Appeared in the “8th Walk of Fame” celebrating Stevie Wonder held at BET Studios in Washington.
· November 29: Held a memorial concert “Concert for George” for the late George Harrison hosted by himself at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
・December 14: Performed with his own band at a Christmas party sponsored by Ferrari in Bologna, Italy.

Actually, Clapton had just declared “retirement” from the tour in the previous year, and it seems that this year was devoted to the “holiday period”, so apart from the “Concert for George” that was planned in a hurry, what I didn’t even have an official schedule for. Speaking of activities, you can see that he was only participating in spot events with people with whom he was in regular contact (although his retirement was eventually withdrawn). Among them, this concert had a sense of duty for Clapton, and he was also looking forward to it as an important event to end the year. What was particularly rare this year was that the band was the smallest formation, and the Beatles number played at “Party At The Palace” in June and “Concert for George” in November While My Guitar Gently You probably have Weeps set in. In terms of time, it was played with the intention of memorializing him because it was the first anniversary of the death of the late George Harrison (Clapton also commented to that effect before the song). It can be inferred that Clapton himself reconfirmed the enjoyment of playing this song at the aforementioned event, but since it was already dropped from the set at this event the following year, this song hit the first anniversary of George’s death. There is no doubt that it is a valuable take that can only be heard in this year’s work. Here, Clapton concentrates on singing in the singing part, and Andy, a basic rhythm guitarist, does not put obligato at all. Therefore, it is a rare take that there is no oburi, but it is Clapton’s solo that more than makes up for it. Clapton’s solo in the middle consists of phrases that are almost in line with the original version of the Beatles, and the solo of the latter is completely ad-lib. Both are great singers and great solos! This take, where you can listen to Clapton’s two tasteful solos without Obli, is worth listening to as a very rare one only here. The other songs are also full of the charm of this event, and there is a variety of blues, rock and roll, soul standards, and Clapton hits. A number featuring the members is also organized, Clapton shows off a wonderful slide play in Gin House featuring Andy, and Clapton’s exquisite song full of singing in the famous Whiter Shade of Pale featuring Brooker. You can listen to solos. The highlight of the night, however, is Stormy Monday. Anyway, Clapton’s play is too amazing. Why was the tension so high at such a heartwarming event? A mysterious and thrilling solo explodes. Besides these, the solo play that Clapton listens to throughout the whole story is excellent! (Although Andy is soloing only in Lay Down Sally) In addition, Layla, who seemed to have avoided playing at this event, is playing in the electric version. However, Andy does not play the main seven phrases in this song. Backed by his thorough rhythm guitarist, Clapton concludes with a nice solo again. And at this time Brooker is playing the piano coda that Chris Stinton usually plays. This is also unusual, resulting in a one-and-only take. In the middle solo of Cocaine, which was the first part of the closing, Clapton listens to his wah wah solo, and the second solo is also rare as an organ solo by Brooker. Little Queenie, which became an encore only for the second part, is also a fun and rare version that includes bass solos and drum solos. Anyway, this work can be enjoyed more than the same event recording board that has already been released.
[High sound quality unique to the master of the heavyweight taper]A heavyweight taper who has provided masters of many rare Clapton sound sources so far, but the master of this work has a special sound image among his recordings of this event so far. As I mentioned earlier, the sound of the band is too vivid. This sound quality is really amazing as if the band is playing in front of you. In addition to using high-end equipment and high-performance microphones for recording, it is probably the result of capturing the sound reverberating in a narrow box at the level of a rural community center in the front row. After all, if it was a concert in the local UK, there would have been a strong taper. The BGM before the start of the first part, the announcement of the start of the performance, the BGM before the start of the second part, the announcement of the start of the performance, the countdown, the moment when the new year is celebrated, and the chorus of “Hotaru no Hikari” to celebrate it. He/she records without leaking. When I listen to this work, I sincerely think that I wanted to experience this warm and gorgeous concert at least once. I am grateful to the stalwart taper who delivered such a concert that we could not go to see with such reality. エリック・クラプトンの秘蔵音源でお馴染みの、イギリス在住重鎮テーパーからのマスターリリースは続きます！もう一つ、重鎮テーパーから到着したDATファーストジェネレーションマスターは、またもレアで特別なチャリティコンサートの音源でした！ここ最近ではすっかりお馴染みになり、お客様から高い評価を得ている「ニュー・イヤーズ・イヴ・ダンス」のニューマスターで、本作は、2002年12月31日にクラプトンの故郷サリー州の田舎町ウォーキングの公民館で行なわれたチャリティコンサートを素晴らしいステレオ・オーディエンス録音で完全収録したものです。このコンサートは、1993年以降毎年実施されてきた「ニュー・イヤーズ・イヴ・ダンス」と題されたAA（アルコール中毒者匿名の会）向けのチャリティイベントでした。元々は82年に、当時クラプトンバンドのメンバーだったゲイリー・ブルッカーが地元のパブで開いた「年忘れライブ」に参加したクラプトンがこの趣向を気に入ったことに端を発し、以降も断続的に年末に行なわれてきたものが93年にクラプトン主催で定例化し、大晦日の夜と休憩を挟んだ新年の朝に二度ライブを行なう「ニュー・イヤーズ・イヴ・ダンス」として定着したものです。洒落心から、毎回匿名性とユーモア性の高いバンド名が付けられるのが恒例にもなっており、この年は「THE USUAL BAND」（いつものバンド）でした。そのバンド名どおり、このイベントではいつも招集されるイギリス人ミュージシャンで固められており、しかもこの年はクラプトンを含み5人という最少限の編成となっていました（珍しく、常連キーボード奏者のクリス・スティントンが不参加でした。スケジュールが合わない等の事情があったのでしょう）。それだけにキーボードは親友のゲイリー・ブルッカー一人という、シンプルでタイトなステージが楽しめた年でもありました。このコンサートは、クラプトンが会員にもなっているアルコール中毒匿名の会の会員とその家族を無料で招待して楽しませるというもので、一般のファンは観られないというのが建て前になっていました。ところが何事にも裏があるのがこの世の中。重鎮テーパーは、普段のコネクションを利用して見事に潜入し、上級機材による極上音質でのステレオ録音に成功したというわけです。今回の重鎮テーパーのマスターは、とにかくバンドの楽音のリアリティ、迫力が凄いです。ボーカルがややオフ気味で右チャンネル寄りの状況から、ステージ右のPA通しと思われ、従って最前列録音であることは間違いないと考えられます。しかもクラプトンのアンプの真ん前で、クラプトンのバックアッププレイの一音一音、ニュアンスまでもが鮮明に聴き取れるのです。クラプトンファンには堪らないと思います。このイベントはメンバーとセットリストがこの時だけのレアなことで定評があり、しかも一般のファンは入場できないコンサートとあって、マニア垂涎の的と言えるものです。それをファーストジェネレーションの極上DATマスターから聴ける。これもまた凄いことなのです。さて、それではここで、このコンサートが行なわれた2002年がクラプトンにとってどのような意味合いを持っていたのかをおさらいしてみましょう。
【休養十分なこの年のバイタリティをそのまま体現した豪華でレアなメンバーによるワン・アンド・オンリーなライブ】
・6月3日：ロンドン、バッキンガム・パレスで行なわれたエリザベス女王戴冠50周年記念イベント「Party At The Palace」に出演。
・8月3日：イギリス、ケント州にあるブランズ・ハッチ・レーシング・サーキットにて行われた「フェラーリ＆マセラッティ・フェスティバル」に自身のバンドで客演。
・10月6日：ロサンゼルスにて行われたビーチボーイズの故デニス・ウィルソンの追悼コンサートに出演し、ブライアン・ウィルソンと共演。
・10月19日：ワシントンのBETスタジオにて行われた、スティーヴィー・ワンダーをセレブレートする「第8回ウォーク・オブ・フェーム」に出演。
・11月29日：ロンドン、ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールにて自らの主催による故ジョージ・ハリスンの追悼コンサート「コンサート・フォー・ジョージ」を開催。
・12月14日：イタリア、ボローニャにて行われたフェラーリ主催のクリスマスパーティに自身のバンドで客演。
・12月20日：故郷の町サリー州ダンスフォールドで行われたゲイリー・ブルッカー主催のチャリティコンサートにゲスト出演。

実はクラプトンは、前年にツアーからの「引退」を宣言していただけあって、この年は「休業期間」に充てていたようで、そのため急遽企画した「コンサート・フォー・ジョージ」は別として、何の公式予定も組んでいなかったのでした。活動と言えば、普段の人脈で交流のある人とのスポット的なイベントへの参加だけだったことがお分かりいただけるでしょう（結局、引退は撤回されたのですが）。その中にあってこのコンサートは、クラプトンには義務感もあり、一年を締めくくる節目の重要なイベントとして本人も楽しみにしていたものでした。この年が特にレアだったのは、バンドが最少編成であったことに加え、6月の「Party At The Palace」や11月の「コンサート・フォー・ジョージ」でプレイしたビートルズナンバーWhile My Guitar Gently Weepsをセットインさせたことでしょう。時期的には、故ジョージ・ハリスンの一周忌に当たっていたため、彼を追悼する意図でプレイされたものです（曲前にもクラプトンがその旨をコメントしています）。前述のイベントでクラプトン自身、この曲をプレイすることの楽しさを再確認したと推察できますが、翌年のこのイベントではもうセットからは落ちましたので、この曲はジョージの一周忌に当たっていたこの年の本作でしか聴けない貴重なテイクと言って間違いありません。ここでは、クラプトンは歌部分では歌に集中しており、基本リズムギタリストであるアンディはオブリガートをまったく入れません。従ってオブリの一切ないという珍しいテイクになっていますが、それを補って余りあるのはクラプトンのソロです。中間のクラプトンのソロは、ビートルズのオリジナルバージョンにほぼ則ったフレーズで構成し、後奏のソロは完全アドリブで通しています。両方とも歌心があって素晴らしいソロなのです！オブリがなく、クラプトンの二度の味わい深いソロが聴けるこのテイクは、ここだけの非常にレアなものとして聴く価値ありです。その他の曲も、このイベントならではの魅力に満ちており、ブルースあり、ロックンロールあり、ソウルのスタンダードあり、クラプトンのヒット曲あり、とバラエティに富んでいます。メンバーをフィーチャーしたナンバーも組まれ、アンディをフィーチャーしたGin Houseではクラプトンが素晴らしいスライドプレイを披露していますし、ブルッカーをフィーチャーした名曲Whiter Shade of Paleでは、これまた歌心に溢れたクラプトンの絶妙なソロを聴くことができます。しかし何と言ってもこの夜のハイライトは、Stormy Mondayでしょう。とにかくクラプトンのプレイが凄すぎます。なぜこんなほのぼのイベントでこうもテンションが高くなったのか？不思議に思えるほどのスリリングなソロが炸裂します。これら以外にも、全編に亘りクラプトンが聴かせるソロプレイが絶品なのです！（Lay Down Sallyだけはアンディがソロをとっていますが）さらにこのイベントでは敢えてプレイすることを避けてきたようにも思えたLaylaをエレクトリックバージョンでプレイしています。ところがこの曲でもアンディはメインの７連フレーズを弾きません。徹底した彼のリズムギタリストぶりをバックにクラプトンがまたもや素敵な趣きのあるソロで締めます。そして普段はクリス・スティントンが奏でるピアノコーダをこの時はブルッカーが弾いています。これも珍しいことで、結果ワン・アンド・オンリーなテイクとなっています。第一部の締めとなったCocaineの中間のソロでは、クラプトンは彼らしいワウワウソロを聴かせますし、セカンドソロはブルッカーによるオルガンソロというのもレアです。第二部のみのアンコールとなったLittle Queenieでは、ベースソロとドラムソロもインクルードされた楽しくレアなバージョンとなっているのも聴きものです。とにかく既発の同イベント収録盤以上に楽しめるのが本作です。
【重鎮テーパーのマスターならではの高音質】
これまで数々のクラプトンのレア音源のマスターを提供してくれている重鎮テーパーですが、本作のマスターはこれまでの彼のこのイベントの録音の中でも音像が特別なものです。前述しましたが、バンドのサウンドが生々し過ぎます。まるで、目の前でバンドが演奏しているようなこの音質はほんと凄いです。録音に使用したのが上級機材と高性能マイクだったことに加え、田舎の公民館レベルの狭いハコに響き渡るサウンドを最前列で捕らえた結果でしょう。何せ地元のイギリスでのコンサートとなれば、重鎮テーパーの意地もあったでしょうから。第一部の開演前のBGMから開演のアナウンス、第二部開演前のBGM～開演のアナウンス、カウントダウン～新年を迎えた瞬間、それを祝う「蛍の光」合唱の様子まで、一部始終を漏らすことなく収録してくれています。本作を聴くと、この温かく豪華だったこのコンサートを一度は経験したかったなあと心から思います。そんな日本人の我々が観に行くことが叶わなかったコンサートをこれほどのリアリティで届けてくれた重鎮テーパーに感謝です。当店が独自入手した極上マスターからの限定プレス盤となりますので、数量に限りがございます。どうぞお早めのオーダーをお願い致します。
