This week we are releasing another work, the treasured DAT master from Taper, a heavyweight resident in the UK. The sound source recorded in the other master he sent is a complete recording of a joint concert with Steve Winwood at Wembley Arena, London on May 21, 2010 with ultra-high quality stereo audience recording. It was what I did. This was also recorded by himself, and the sound quality was as good as that of a good soundboard recording. Therefore, even for this master, there was no curtain for our engineers regarding the sound quality itself. At our shop, we released the sound source of the day under the title of “2 NIGHTS AT WEMBLEY (4CDR)” before, but this time the master of the heavyweight taper had super high sound quality far beyond that. However, the only drawback was that in the regular set, Cocaine of the finale, there was a part where the sound image became a little unstable because the audience around the excitement became full standing, but only this part is the engineer of our shop. We have made corrections to alleviate the sense of discomfort as much as possible. As a result, it was a dignified press release. This day was the third day from the start of the tour, and the second and final day of the London series, and it seems that it was the concert that the discerning local rock fans paid the most attention to. Clapton and Winwood held a joint concert in New York in 2008, triggered by Clapton’s jump-in co-starring at Winwood’s concert in 2007, and the CD and DVD were released as official works. It can be said that this 2010 tour was an “updated version” of the joint concert, as the band members and setlists changed from that time, and the combination of the two was performed in a higher form. It is no exaggeration to say that this work is the new definitive edition of the 2010 tour, and it is one of the wonderful sound quality and contents.
[At the beginning of the tour, an updated attractive set list and a rock-solid performance that excited local fans]Speaking of tours with Winwood, apart from 2008 and 2009, it was the first time since 1969 during the Blind Faith era. Originally, the cause of the dissolution of Blind Faith was not the disagreement between the two, so the two who have continued to have a friendship for a long time have built a career as a Grammy-winning superstar as a leading solo artist in the United Kingdom. At this point, warming up the old relationship was, in a sense, a natural process. However, longtime fans were more surprised. It was essentially the reunion of Blind Faith, so how would you play the old repertoire? , Will each of the two solo hit numbers be played? Fans were thrilled when it was reported that a joint concert would be held in 2008. As you can see in the official work, the play of the two did not show any decline, but rather the performance was more skillful than in the Blind Faith era. The two who enjoyed it realized a long-term performance in the form of a “tour” with the United States in 2009 and Europe in 2010. Now, let’s review the activity status of Clapton this year.

Looking at it in this way, Clapton not only toured with Winwood, but also toured with Jeff Beck from the beginning of the year, appeared in numerous events, and also hosted the “Crossroad Guitar Festival”. In addition to holding it, you can see that he was very busy, such as producing an album for studio recording. To put it the other way around, Clapton was so enthusiastic about his work. And Clapton was successful in all of the activities listed here. At that time, Clapton had reached the age of 65, but it turns out that his vitality never diminished. Meanwhile, during the European tour with Winwood, the set list was changed from the previous year’s American tour, which pleased the fans. Surprisingly, the band’s The Shape I’m In was set in, which probably meant a dedication to Richard Manuel, who committed suicide in 1986. Twenty-four years after that, Clapton continued to have a feeling for his best friend Manuel. In addition, new songs such as Winwood’s Midland Maniac and Jeff Beck’s favorite number Going Down have been added. If Clapton had a joint tour with Beck before this tour, the latter may have been set in as a homage to Beck. Others basically followed the set list of the previous year’s tour, but among them, the perfection of numbers in the Blind Faith era such as Had To Cry Today, Presence Of The Lord, Well Alright, Can’t Find My Way Home Is stunning, and the awesomeness of Winwood’s organ play and Clapton’s guitar play at Voodoo Chile dedicated to his two mutual friends, Jimi Hendrix, is unspeakable. It’s also fun to see Winwood’s role in Clapton’s hits. The vocals and keyboards on the hit Forever Man, which is especially popular with Clapton fans, are exactly what he loves, and Layla, who listens to his acoustic guitar solos, is also awesome. I also played Cocaine’s second solo, which is great again! On the contrary, it is also fun to confirm the role of Clapton in Winwood’s hit song. Only Clapton, who is good at session play from the beginning, can hear the play that can only be said to be accurate. Among them, the guitar solo at Georgia On My Mind in Winwood is excellent! Richard Manuel also had this song in his repertoire, so Clapton may have thought about his take as well. It’s also interesting to see that Clapton plays the main phrase that Chris Wood once played on the saxophone on his guitar in his traffic-era number Glad. After all, I stabbed the encore’s angry long solo at Dear Mr. Fantasy. With the addition of their ages and careers, each song shows the performance of Iwaishi, and you can see how they are playing happily themselves.
[Charm of each song that can be heard on Steve Gadd’s drums]At the 2008 joint, the drums were Ian Thomas (now Mark Knopfler Band). The drums for the 2009 American Tour were Ave Laboral Jr. (now Paul McCartney Band). And on this 2010 European tour, Steve Gadd, a jazz-born technician with the strongest ties to Clapton, served. It’s clear from the example of Roger Hawkins on the 1983 American Tour and Jamie Oldaker, who was appointed halfway through, that the impression changes even with the same set list when the drummer changes. Gadd’s drumming on this tour narrowed his interest to the following three points. Apart from the Clapton songs that I always support, (1) How was the nuance different from the original Ginger Baker in the Blind Faith repertoire? (2) How did you hit Winwood’s repertoire including traffic? ③ How did you hit songs such as Forever Man, who hasn’t been on the set since 1990 and hasn’t hit Gadd, and Jimi Hendrix’s number Voodoo Chile, which is surprising to him? And did they match the song? How was it compared to the drummer of the previous year and the year before last? am. Steve Gadd responded to Clapton’s request, knowing that the hurdles were high from the edge. 【S.ウィンウッドとのジョイント、2010年アップデート・ツアーバージョンの決定版が登場！】
今週はもう一作、イギリス在住の重鎮テーパーからもたらされた秘蔵DATマスターをリリース致します。彼が送ってきたもう一つのマスターに収録されていた音源は、2010年5月21日、ロンドン、ウェンブレー・アリーナでのスティーヴ・ウィンウッドとのジョイントコンサートを超高音質ステレオ・オーディエンス録音で完全収録したものでした。これもまた彼自身が録音を敢行したもので、良質なサウンドボード録音に優るとも劣らぬ極上音質でした。従いまして、このマスターについても、音質そのものについては当店のエンジニアの出る幕はありませんでした。当店では以前に「2 NIGHTS AT WEMBLEY(4CDR)」というタイトルでこの日の音源をリリースしていますが、今回の重鎮テーパーのマスターはそれを遥かに超える超高音質でした。ただ、唯一の欠点は、レギュラーセット、フィナーレのCocaineにおいて、盛り上がった周りのオーディエンスが総立ちになったため、音像がやや不安定になる箇所を含んでいることでしたが、この部分のみ当店のエンジニアが極力違和感を緩和する修正を行ないました。その結果、堂々のプレス盤リリースとなったわけです。この日はツアー開始から3日目、そしてロンドン連続公演の2日目＆最終日に当たっており、耳の肥えた地元のロックファンが最も注目したコンサートだったようです。クラプトンとウィンウッドは、2007年のウィンウッドのコンサートでのクラプトンの飛入り共演をきっかけとして、翌2008年のニューヨークにてジョイントコンサートを行ない、それはオフィシャル作品としてCDとDVDがリリースされました。この2010年ツアーでは、その時とはバンドメンバーもセットリストも変化し、二人のコンビネーションもより高まった形で行なわれただけに、「アップデート版」のジョイントコンサートだったと言ってもいいでしょう。本作は2010年ツアーの新たな決定版と言っても過言ではない、素晴らしい音質、内容の一作です。
【ツアー序盤、アップデートされた魅力的なセットリストと地元ファンを沸かせた磐石のパフォーマンス】
ウィンウッドとのツアーと言うと、2008年、2009年を別とすれば、ブラインド・フェイス時代の1969年以来のものでした。元々ブラインド・フェイス解散の原因は二人の不仲ではなかったので、ずっと交友関係を続けてきた二人が、イギリスを代表するソロアーティストとして、共にグラミー受賞の実績を誇るスーパースターのキャリアを築いたこの時点で旧交を温めることは、ある意味自然な流れだったと言えます。しかしながら、長年のファンの方が驚喜したのです。実質的にはブラインド・フェイスの再結成に等しかったため、かつてのレパートリーをどんな風に演奏してくれるのか？、二人それぞれのソロヒットナンバーは演奏されるのか？2008年にジョイントコンサートの開催が報じられると、ファンはワクワクドキドキしたものです。オフィシャル作品で鑑賞できたように、二人のプレイはまったく衰えを見せず、むしろブラインド・フェイス時代よりも演奏は巧みになっていました。それを楽しんだ二人は2009年にはアメリカ、そして2010年にはヨーロッパ、と「ツアー」という形で長期公演を実現したのです。ではここで、この年のクラプトンの活動状況をここでおさらいしておきましょう。

こうして見ますと、クラプトンはウィンウッドとのツアーのみならず、年初からはジェフ・ベックともジョイントツアーを行い、数々のイベントにも出演しながら、自身が主催する「クロスロード・ギター・フェスティバル」も開催するほか、スタジオ・レコーディングのアルバムも制作するなど、非常に多忙だったことが分かります。逆に言えば、それほどクラプトンは仕事に燃えていたのです。そしてここに挙げたすべての活動でクラプトンは成功を収めました。当時のクラプトンは65歳のシニア世代に達していましたが、そのバイタリティは衰えることなどなかったことが分かります。そんな中、実施されたウィンウッドとのヨーロッパ・ツアーでは、前年のアメリカン・ツアーからセットリストが変更されていたことがファンを喜ばせました。驚くのは、ザ・バンドのThe Shape I’m Inをセットインさせたことで、これは86年に自殺してしまったリチャード・マニュエルに捧げる意味があったと思われます。あれから24年経ってもクラプトンは親友だったマニュエルへの想いを抱き続けていたのですね。さらにはウィンウッドのMidland Maniac、ジェフ・ベックのお気に入りナンバーGoing Downといった曲が新たに加わりました。このツアーの前にはベックとのジョイント・ツアーを行なったクラプトンとすれば、後者はひょっとしてベックへのオマージュからセットインさせたのかもしれません。その他は基本的に前年ツアーのセットリストを踏襲していましたが、中でもHad To Cry Today、Presence Of The Lord、Well Alright、Can’t Find My Way Homeといったブラインド・フェイス時代のナンバーの完成度には目を見張るものがあり、さらには二人共通の友人だったジミ・ヘンに捧げたVoodoo Chileでのウィンウッドのオルガンプレイ、クラプトンのギタープレイの凄まじさは言語を絶するレベルです。クラプトンのヒット曲でのウィンウッドの役割の確認も楽しいです。特にクラプトンファンには人気の高いヒット曲Forever Manでのボーカルとキーボードは、まさに彼にはまっていると言えますし、彼のアコースティックギターソロが聴けるLaylaも乙なものです。さらにCocaineのセカンドソロも弾いていて、これがまた素晴らしい！逆にウィンウッドのヒット曲でのクラプトンの役割の確認もまた楽し。これは元よりセッションプレイを得意としているクラプトンだけに、的確と言うほかはないようなプレイが聴けます。中でもウィンウッドのGeorgia On My Mindでのギターソロは絶品！この曲はリチャード・マニュエルもレパートリーにしていましたから、クラプトンは彼のテイクにも思いを馳せて弾いていたかもしれません。また、彼のトラフィック時代のナンバーGladでは、かつてクリス・ウッドがサックスで奏でていたメインフレーズをクラプトンがギターで弾くというアレンジになっているのも興味を引くところでしょう。何と言ってもアンコールのDear Mr. Fantasyでの怒涛のロングソロにトドメを刺しますが。どの曲も、二人の年齢とキャリアが加わったことで磐石の出来栄えを見せ、彼ら自身も楽しそうにプレイしている様子が伝わってきます。
【スティーヴ・ガッドのドラムで聴ける各曲の魅力】
2008年のジョイントでは、ドラムはイアン・トーマス（現マーク・ノップラー・バンド）でした。2009年アメリカン・ツアーのドラムはエイブ・ラボリアル・ジュニア（現ポール・マッカートニー・バンド）でした。そしてこの2010年ヨーロッパ・ツアーでは、クラプトンと最も絆が固い、ジャズ出身のテクニシャン、スティーヴ・ガッドが務めました。ドラマーが代わると、同じセットリストでも印象が変わるのは、83年アメリカン・ツアーのロジャー・ホーキンスと途中起用されたジェイミー・オールデイカーの例でも明らかです。このツアーでガッドがドラムを叩いたことで、興味の対象は以下の3点に絞られました。いつもサポートしているクラプトンの楽曲は別として、①ブラインド・フェイスのレパートリーにおいて、オリジナルのジンジャー・ベイカーとはどうニュアンスが違ったのか？②トラフィックを含むウィンウッドのレパートリーをどう叩いていたのか？③クラプトンが90年以降セットに組んでおらず、ガッドも叩いたことのないForever Manや彼にとっては意外なジミヘン・ナンバーVoodoo Chileといった曲では、どのように叩いたのか？そしてそれらは楽曲にマッチしていたのか？前年、前々年のドラマーと比べてどうだったのか？です。端からハードルが高いことを承知の上で、クラプトンの要請に応えたスティーヴ・ガッド。これら気になる点の答えは・・・・・・・・そこまで全部述べてしまうと、せっかく鑑賞していただく上での楽しみがなくなってしまいますよね。ここは是非皆さんの耳でお確かめいただきたいと思います。期待を裏切らない素晴らしいパフォーマンスだとだけ申しておきましょう。
2010年5月21日、S.ウィンウッドとE.クラプトンの地元、ロンドンのオーディエンスを大満足させた、二人のジョイント・ヨーロッパ・ツアーの決定版と断言できる、素晴らしいパフォーマンスを超高音質で完全収録した一作です。是非ご鑑賞ください。
