Sorry I made you wait! Eric Clapton’s Japan Tour 2023, which ended with a great success after completing all six performances. Clapton, who had an epoch that achieved the only “100 performances at the Budokan” among overseas artists during the performance. Along with the set list, the performance was enjoyable every day. This week, following the first day performance last week, the 2nd day (April 18th), the 3rd day (April 19th), and the 4th day (April 21st) will be permanently preserved from our original superb stereo audience master. We will release it all at once on the press board! First of all, this work, which completely recorded the performance on the second day, has a recording seat in the arena A8 block. The recording person is the same person as that masterpiece Deep Purple “Hiroshima 2023 Definitive Master” (2CD: Darker Than Blue 321/322)”. Usually, it is unusual for the latest local performances of hard rock concerts to be made into press CDs. However, this exceptional recording was an exceptional piece that was urgently released the other day, as it was inevitable that it would not be made into a press CD as a record. And this work is also “amazing” high sound quality.

[A gem that allows you to experience the whole picture of the performance on the second day more realistically! ]It was this second day that was full of charm that was different from the first day. The selling point of this second day performance is that Clapton’s play quality has improved significantly from the first day. The opening Blue Rainbow was the premiere in the world on the first day, and there was also a dangerous phrasing with Clapton’s tension. I could tell it was a masterpiece just by listening to it, but the playing was awkward and there were mistones. However, on this second day, the theme phrase finger-picking was very stable, and the ad-lib part was very smooth. The slow hand playing style that descends like a flow with fast playing is also explosive. In that respect, I think that the play of this day can be said to have fully brought out the original charm of this song. The take on this day, where the crying phrase dedicated to the late Jeff Beck is clear, is a must-listen!
Also, I Shot The Sheriff, which is the highlight of the first half, was a wonderful workmanship with a phrase composition full of Clapton-like singing while sometimes incorporating fast phrases like rapid-fire guns. In recent years, due to old age, the eye-opening play in this song was often hidden in the shadows, but this day was different. Clapton, who brings the highlight play properly with the highlight song, is amazing.
And before Sam Hall in the acoustic set, Clapton clearly commented, “Dedicated to Jeff.” Good for the opening song, good for this song, Clapton is probably suffering from the loneliness of losing his friend Jeff Beck, who can be said to have been eating the same rice from the 1960s. He is a song that I would like you to listen to with that in mind. Also, the insertion of “Blue Shadow” in Tears in Heaven, which commemorates Gary Brooker, was due to the unison of the organ and guitar on the first day, but it changed to the organ only on this day. After all, this one comes nicely as the image of the original song.
And above all, the performance quality of Layla in the regular set last has increased significantly from the first day. Clapton has been in charge of the intro’s 7 consecutive phrases for a long time, but it was the first day that the dangerous play was exposed because the fingers did not move as expected, probably due to old age. However, on this day, the intro was left to Doyle, and Clapton devoted himself to the code work, which was successful and put it into the song smoothly (this would be since George Terry in the 70’s). As a result, the voice came out well and sang without any problems, and the band as a whole was a tight performer. The take on the first day is a huge difference. Clapton has quickly improved the points to be reflected and improved the play quality. This is professionalism. Regarding Clapton’s solo in the latter part, I was working hard until the first day, so I can listen to the same level of tasteful play on this day.
For those who were shocked by the surprise of the set list on the first day, I would like you to listen to this even more fulfilling second day. It is the second day performance where the meaning of this set list is deeper. This work is the perfect permanent preservation board to know the significance of such a Japanese performance. Anyway, Clapton who came to Japan in good spirits at this age and listened to a play suitable for active duty is wonderful! Please experience this excitement with this work.
