DREAM THEATER has already returned to Japan with a solo tour, eight months after the grand opening of “DOWNLOAD JAPAN”. The best original recording of the latest stage will be released at the same time as 2 units and Tsu!
This work is the first of two first reports that were released at the same time. It is the best audience recording of the performance of “April 28, 2023: LINE CUBE SHIBUYA”. Both last time and this time, it was part of the “TOP OF THE WORLD Tour”, and in the meantime, the decision board pro shot “ROCK IN RIO BRASIL 2022 (Shades 1602)” also appeared. Let’s take a bird’s eye view of their ongoing activities and check their positional relationship in order to know their recent situation.

This is the schedule for 2022/2023 that has been announced so far. During the last year, it has traveled to “North America, Europe, and Asia”, but in 2023, each will carry out a second round. Unlike “Asia #1”, which was held once in Japan and once in Singapore, this time, they have organized a full-fledged Asian tour that includes Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia. Among them, Japan re-landing is 4 performances. This week, “BUDOKAN 2023 (Shades 1750)” will be released at the same time, so let’s focus on the schedule further.

The Shibuya performance of this work is an additional performance set on the first day of the re-landing. In terms of “Asia # 2” as a whole, it was also a concert that was the third performance. This work recorded at such a site is exactly the best audience recording with “super”. As a matter of fact, the sound output at the site was not so good at the previous “DOWNLOAD JAPAN”, but this time it seems that the sound output is good, probably because it is a solo tour. Moreover, the virtuoso who has worked on many press masterpieces at our shop has recorded with his arms, and the sound is like a “sound board”. There is no sense of audience in the thick core or the vivid separate feeling, and the tightly packed density has no feeling of being empty. The applause that rises between songs is also sucked in, but it is also felt farther than the thick and thick performance sound. No one may notice even if you put it out as an official boot without revealing it as an audience.
A full show of the “TOP OF THE WORLD Tour”, which is similar to the previous visit to Japan, but different from the previous visit to Japan, is depicted with such a thick and intimate sound. … and it looks like this. “ROCK IN RIO BRASIL 2022” was the content that was shaped while following the previous visit to Japan, but the revisit to Japan has changed completely. The selection from the new work “A VIEW FROM THE TOP OF THE WORLD” is also a total replacement except for the opening “The Alien”.
As the first report of their arrival in Japan, the finest masterpieces that you would want to call “official class” have popped up. In 2023, there will be a series of impact recordings that make the distinction between soundboard and audience meaningless, but this work allows you to fully enjoy the detailed ensemble of DREAM THEATER with that new standard. A new masterpiece from Japan that boasts to the world. Here is my grand birth.

 本作は、2本同時となった第一報レポートの第一弾。「2023年4月28日:LINE CUBE SHIBUYA」公演の極上オーディエンス録音です。前回も今回も“TOP OF THE WORLD Tour”の一環で、その合間には決定盤プロショット『ROCK IN RIO BRASIL 2022(Shades 1602)』も登場しました。彼らの近況を知る意味でも現在進行形の活動全景を俯瞰し、それぞれの位置関係を確認してみましょう。

 これが現在までに公表されている2022年/2023年のスケジュール。昨年中に「北米・欧州・アジア」を巡っていましたが、2023年はそれぞれ二巡目を敢行。日本とシンガポールを1回ずつだった「アジア#1」とは異なり、今回は韓国やフィリピン、タイ、マレーシアなども巡る本格的なアジア・ツアーを組んできました。その中で日本再上陸は4公演。今週は『BUDOKAN 2023(Shades 1750)』も同時リリースとなりますので、さらに日程をフォーカスしておきましょう。

 本作の渋谷公演は再上陸の初日に設定された追加公演。「アジア#2」全体で言いますと3公演目にあたるコンサートでもありました。そんな現場で記録された本作は、まさに「超」付きの極上オーディエンス録音。実のところ、前回の“DOWNLOAD JAPAN”は現場の出音があまり良くなかったのですが、今回は単独ツアーという事もあってかどうやら出音も好調な様子。しかも当店でもプレス名盤を数多く手掛けてきた名手が腕によりをかけて録音しており、そのサウンドはぶっちゃけ「まるでサウンドボード」を地で行くもの。極太な芯にも鮮やかなセパレート感にもオーディエンスらしさがなく、みっちり詰まった密度にはスカスカ感も皆無。曲間で盛り上がる喝采も吸い込んではいますが、それも骨太・肉厚な演奏音より遙か遠くに感じられる。オーディエンスと明かさずシレッと公式ブートとして出しても誰も気づかないかも知れません。
 そんな極太&ド密着サウンドで画かれるのは、前回来日とは似て非なる“TOP OF THE WORLD Tour”のフルショウ。今回は半年前の新定番プロショット『ROCK IN RIO BRASIL 2022(Shades 1602)』で予習されている方も多いと思いますので、比較しながらセットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。『ROCK IN RIO BRASIL 2022』は前回来日を踏襲しつつシェイプした内容でしたが、再来日は様変わり。新作『A VIEW FROM THE TOP OF THE WORLD』からのセレクトもオープニングの「The Alien」以外は総入れ替えです。
 来日第一報にして「オフィシャル級」と呼びたくなる極上の名作が飛び出してきました。2023年はサウンドボード/オーディエンスの区別も無意味になる衝撃録音が連発していますが、本作はその新基準でDREAM THEATERの緻密なアンサンブルを存分に味わい尽くせるのです。まさに世界に誇る日本発の新名盤。ここに堂々の誕生です。
