DREAM THEATER has already returned to Japan with a solo tour, eight months after the grand opening of “DOWNLOAD JAPAN”. The best original recording of the latest stage will be released at the same time as 2 units and Tsu!
This work is the second of two simultaneous releases. It is the best audience recording of the “April 28, 2023: Nippon Budokan” performance. Let’s leave the overview of the tour to the explanation of “LINE CUBE SHIBUYA 2023 (Shades 1748)”, which will be released at the same time, but let’s check the positional relationship with each other in the schedule for coming to Japan.

A total of 4 performances. Last time it was “DOWNLOAD JAPAN” only once, but the second visit to Japan is a compact circuit in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. Shibuya on the first day was an additional performance, and the Nippon Budokan of this work was a magnificent highlight performance. Speaking of their Nippon Budokan, the official “LIVE AT BUDOKAN” comes to mind, but after that, live performances at traditional venues are occasionally realized. It’s also a good opportunity, so let’s take a look at their Budokan history here.

It was a total of four performances. The first time will be the official work “LIVE AT BUDOKAN”, and on the 25th anniversary tour of “IMAGES AND WORDS” six years ago, the professional shot masterpiece “LIVE AT BUDOKAN 2017”, which is a complete reproduction live, is very popular at our shop. Not only is it a famous venue, but it has also produced many masterpieces. And this work is also a new masterpiece that makes the gold sign shine.
The most wonderful thing is the strong direct feeling of the core. While sucking in the hall noise, the rushing power that rushes to break through it is amazing. The factor is the recording position without fixing it. Even in the arena, it is captured from the A3 block close to the stage, and the PA is installed in front of it. It is logical that there is no sense of distance because it is physically close, and the cheers that fill the octagonal space are carried from behind, so they do not interrupt the performance sound. While feeling the spectacle of the large venue more than the simultaneous release “LINE CUBE SHIBUYA 2023”, it is also a delicious sound that is equally easy to listen to.
A full show of the “TOP OF THE WORLD Tour”, which is similar to the previous visit to Japan, but different from the previous visit to Japan, is depicted with such a boned spectacle sound. The story is the same fixed set as “LINE CUBE SHIBUYA 2023”, but the taste has changed from the previous visit to Japan. Here, let’s organize the set while comparing it with our masterpiece “DOWNLOAD JAPAN 2022”.

… and it looks like this. Both new songs and classics are boldly replaced, and it is fresh even though it is the same tour. In Classics, “Caught In A Web”, which was revived for the first time in eight years, also attracts ears, but more than that is the three consecutive shots from “SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE”. The masterpiece “Solitary Shell” is also the first in 13 years, and the highlight that folds into “About To Crash (reprise)” and “Losing Time / Grand Finale” like the album from there is the first time in 17 years since 2006. It is also a scene where the scent of the heyday is revived at once.
“DOWNLOAD JAPAN”‘s grand opening was also majestic, but the solo tour was wonderful. This work is a live album where you can fully experience the scene of the highlight performance. A new masterpiece that makes it easy to listen to the sound of “LINE CUBE SHIBUYA 2023”, which is a round sound board, and even a unique “Budokan spectacle”. Please enjoy it to the fullest.

本作は、２本同時リリースの第二弾。「2023年４月28日：日本武道館」公演の極上オーディエンス録音です。ツアーの全体像は同時リリースとなる『LINE CUBE SHIBUYA 2023（Shades 1748）』の解説に譲るとして、ここでは来日スケジュールで互いの位置関係を確認しておきましょう。

以上、全４公演。前回は“DOWNLOAD JAPAN”１回こっきりでしたが、再来日はコンパクトながら東名阪をサーキット。初日の渋谷は追加公演であり、本作の日本武道館は堂々のハイライト公演でした。彼らの日本武道館と言えば、公式『LIVE AT BUDOKAN』が思い浮かびますが、その後も折に触れて伝統会場でのライヴが実現。良い機会でもありますので、ここで彼らの武道館ヒストリーも降り買っておきましょう。

以上の全４公演でした。初回が公式作品『LIVE AT BUDOKAN』となり、６年前の『IMAGES AND WORDS』25周年ツアーでは完全再現ライヴのプロショット名作『LIVE AT BUDOKAN 2017』が当店でも大人気。単に有名会場というだけでなく、名作も多数生み出して来ました。そして、本作もまたその金看板を輝かせる新名盤なのです。
何よりも素晴らしいのは力強い芯のダイレクト感。ホール鳴りも吸い込みつつ、それを食い破るようにしてグイグイと迫ってくる突進力がスゴい。その要因は、取りも直さず録音ポジション。アリーナでもステージに近いＡ３ブロックから捉えており、その目の前にはPAが設置されているのです。物理的に間近なのですから距離感がないのも道理ですし、八角形の空間に充満する喝采も後方から背負い込むため演奏音との間に割り込んでこないのです。同時リリースの『LINE CUBE SHIBUYA 2023』よりも大会場のスペクタクルは感じつつ、聴きやすさは同等という美味しいサウンドでもあるのです。
そんな骨太スペクタクル・サウンドで画かれるのは、前回来日とは似て非なる“TOP OF THE WORLD Tour”のフルショウ。ぶっちゃけた話が『LINE CUBE SHIBUYA 2023』と同一の固定セットだったりもするのですが、前回来日とは趣向を変えてきた。ここでは当店の名作『DOWNLOAD JAPAN 2022』と比較しつつセットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。新曲もクラシックスも大胆に入れ替えられ、同じツアーでありながらフレッシュでもある。クラシックスでは８年ぶりに復活した「Caught In A Web」も耳を惹きますが、それ以上なのが『SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE』からの３連発。名曲「Solitary Shell」も13年ぶりですし、そこからアルバムと同様に「About To Crash (reprise)」「Losing Time/Grand Finale」へと畳みかけていくハイライトは、2006年以来17年ぶり。全盛の薫りが一気に甦るシーンでもあります。
