DEEP PURPLE after joining Simon McBride, who has been attracting a lot of attention with the announcement of a performance in Japan with a new lineup. Two of the latest live albums will be released simultaneously.
This work is the second in a series of two simultaneous releases. It is the best audience recording of “October 20, 2022 Glasgow Performance”. This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, has a super clear sound that will wake you up. The three live albums have high-quality sounds with different personalities, but in terms of clarity, it feels like “this work > BIRMINGHAM 2022 > LONDON 2022”. Anyway, the atmosphere is crystal clear and transparent, and there is no cloudiness or turbidity, and even the subtleties of subtleties are clear/clear. The creaking of the organ, the picking nuances of the guitar, and the breathing of the vocals, everything jumps into the super vivid. Although you can feel the proof of the audience in the sound of the snare etc., it is only a story of the tone level. The fineness of the details, the vividness, the sharpness of Lina Ward, the sense of separateness…all sound board barefoot.
It seems that “If it’s that great, then this alone is good” (actually, that’s fine too), but it’s not so simple with deep bass. Apparently the Glasgow performance seems to have been slightly withdrawn from the on-site PA base. In fact, the bass is recorded firmly, and the bass solo etc. of “Pictures Of Home” are actually drawn super clearly. However, when incorporated into part of an ensemble, the contours become somewhat obscure. Therefore, in terms of groove, it falls short of the other two works, and the dynamism and the above inequality are in the opposite order. However, it is certain that you can not see such a vivid sound so far. It is a unique high-quality live album in a dimension that goes beyond DEEP PURPLE.
The “Simon McBride Era” has just begun. It is an ultra-clear recording that makes the ensemble vividly taste even the subtleties of subtleties. There are two other works that are hard to throw away to taste the groove of the whole show, but there is no doubt that this work is the No. 1 live album in the sense of “knowing McBride”. ……と、このようになっています。今のところ映像作２本／ライヴアルバム３作が登場しており、本作のグラスゴウ公演はライヴアルバム『LONDON 2022』と『BIRMINGHAM 2022』の中間に位置するコンサートでもありました。
そんな現場を真空パックした本作は、目も醒める超クリア・サウンド。ライヴアルバム３作はそれぞれに個性の異なるハイクオリティサウンドですが、クリアさに関しては「本作 ＞ BIRMINGHAM 2022 ＞ LONDON 2022」という感じ。とにかく空気感がクリスタル・クリアに透き通っていて、曇りも濁りもなく機微の機微までクッキリ／ハッキリ。オルガンの軋みもギターのピッキング・ニュアンスもヴォーカルの息づかいも、何から何まで超ビビッドに飛び込んでくる。スネアの鳴りなどにオーディエンスの証は感じられるものの、それはあくまで音色レベルの話。ディテールの細やかさ、鮮やかさ、リナ区の鋭さ、セパレート感……すべてサウンドボード裸足です。
「そんなに凄いなら、コレだけでイイじゃん」となりそうです（実際それでも構わないのです）が、そう単純でもないのが重低音。どうやらグラスゴウ公演は現場PAのベースがやや引っ込み気味だったようです。実際にはしっかり低音も記録されており、実際「Pictures Of Home」のベース・ソロ等は超クッキリ画かれている。しかしながら、アンサンブルの一部に組み込まれると輪郭がやや判然としないくなる。そのためグルーヴ的には他２作に一歩及ばず、ダイナミズムも上記の不等式も逆の順序になるのです。とは言え、ここまで鮮やかなサウンドはそうそうお目にかかれないのも確か。DEEP PURPLE云々を超えた次元で個性的なハイクオリティなライヴアルバムなのです。
始まったばかりの「サイモン・マクブライド時代」。そのアンサンブルを機微の機微まで鮮やかに味わわせてくれる超クリア録音です。ショウ全体のグルーヴを味わうには他２作も捨てがたいものがありますが、「マクブライドを知る」意味では本作こそがNo.1ライヴアルバムなのは間違いありません。数々の名録音でも現状のニーズに一番ピッタリな絶対作。28年ぶりのメンバーチェンジで生まれ変わったDEEP PURPLEの真髄、どうぞ本作でしかとお確かめください。
