Bowie in 1974, who said goodbye to the charismatic “Jiggy Stardust” and set out for a new world. A video collection that allows you to witness the transition is a gift release decision.
The video contained in this work was shot on a stage of 10 performances. There are various types such as precious 8mm to professional recording film, but it is one piece that overseas enthusiasts have collected less than one song. If you are an avid collector, you may remember the video collection “RIPPED & REWRAPPED” with a similar concept, but this work can be said to be an expanded / expanded version of that masterpiece. While “RIPPED & REWRAPPED” was a 29-minute work composed of 6 performances, this work is a compilation of 10 performances, 46 songs, and about 48 minutes.
There are some professional shots, but the main and most important is the precious 8mm film audience shot. In the first place, “audience photography” was a culture that developed in the 1980s when home video cameras became widespread, but it also existed in the 1970s. It was shot as a material for enthusiastic fans and related parties, but the medium is 8 mm. However, unlike the subsequent video, it was not possible to shoot for a long time, leaving a fragmented image of tens of seconds to minutes. In recent years, such excavation of 8mm film in the 1970s has been actively carried out, and the audience recording of the day was synchronized there. The method of making a work is also fashionable.
Moreover, 8mm is more beautiful than the later audience shots. Video tapes are vulnerable to dubbing and aging, and the pixels are rough in the first place. Although it depends on the state of preservation, 8 mm is excavated from Omoto, so there is almost no deterioration, and the glossy color is exactly the same as that time. This work is one that covers such precious images with the highest quality.
Also, the number of materials is not the only difference from the previous work “RIPPED & REWRAPPED”. Last time, I put together one track no matter how many songs the video of one performance was, but this time I divided the tracks into smaller tracks one by one in more detail. Let’s organize the contents here.

● DIAMOND DOGS Tour (5 performances: June-September 1974)
・ Jiggy Stardust: Moonage Daydream (4 performances) / Suffragette City (2 performances) / Rock’n’Roll Suicide (2 performances)
・ Aladdin Sane: Time (3 performances) / Panic in Detroit (2 performances) / The Jean Genie / Aladdin Sane / Cracked Actor
・ Diamond Dogs: Sweet Thing (3 performances) / 1984 (2 performances) / Rebel Rebel (2 performances) / Rock’n’Roll With Me / Big Brother / Diamond Dogs
・ Others: Space Oddity / The Width Of A Circle / Changes / All The Young Dudes / John, I’m Only Dancing (Again)

● THE SOUL / PHILLY DOGS Tour (5 performances: October-December 1974)
・ Jiggy Stardust: Moonage Daydream / Suffragette City
・ Diamond Dogs: Rebel Rebel (3 performances) / 1984 (2 performances)
・ Young Americans: Young Americans (2 performances) / Somebody Up There Likes Me / Can You Hear Me?
・ Others: John, I’m Only Dancing (Again) (3 performances) / Footstompin’

… And it looks like this. The final leg of “DIAMOND DOGS Tour” is also known as “THE SOUL / PHILLY DOGS Tour” and is often distinguished. Here, Bowie has begun to devote himself to soul music, and he will also show off a new song of “YOUNG AMERICANS” that was being produced. In this work, 5 performances are selected from “DIAMOND DOGS Tour” / “THE SOUL / PHILLY DOGS Tour”, and the above also shows the sense of balance.
Also, not only the distribution but also the content is different. “THE SOUL / PHILLY DOGS Tour” is a funky arrangement of past masterpieces, and the band itself has undergone a major transformation with the participation of actress Carlos Alomar and becoming a big family. Although it is dark and difficult to understand until the stage set is only 8 mm, you can firmly witness the appearance of Bowie who changed the image.

Previously, it was an 8mm archive that attracted attention only for the value of the material, but now it has been sublimated into a splendid video work by synchronizing the finest audio. This work also includes genuine professional shot footage, but it’s not inferior when viewed side by side. One piece that spells “Bowie of 1974” that stood at the toning point with such historical treasures. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

John, I’m Only Dancing (Again)(3公演)/Footstompin’
