Surprisingly, a monaural audience recording of the unreleased day of the legendary Fillmore West performance in March 1968, when Cream is said to have conquered the United States, has appeared on the internet! It was the person who recorded this sound source that uploaded it. I don’t know why I decided to publish it now after 55 years, but it must be a wonderful topic for British rock fans. Moreover, despite this era, it is wonderful that it is recorded with good sound quality that can be heard normally, and it can be said that it is a miracle. Cream’s 2nd U.S. tour at this time lasted for about 4 months, and among them, a series of performances in the west coast area from February 29th to March 10th in the early stage was officially recorded as a highlight of the tour. The live take of the sound board recording is sold in pieces such as Cream’s official board “WHEELS OF FIRE”, “LIVE CREAM”, “LIVE CREAM VOL.2”, Japanese CD “CREAM OF ERIC CLAPTON” etc. It was recorded in , and made the world aware of the awesomeness of Cream’s live performances. In the underground, a monaural sound board source with slightly poor sound quality on March 10 leaked out, Sunshine Of Your Love, Steppin ‘Out, I’m So Glad, a different take from rare We’re Going Wrong and official Although I was able to listen to , it did not reach the level where I could enjoy the undisclosed live take. The take of the March 3 performance contained in this work is the day when it was not officially recorded, so of course all the takes are the first appearance. Moreover, we scrutinized the whole story at our shop, and as a result, we corrected all the pitches that were delayed in a state of disarray depending on the scene to normal levels, corrected the sound pressure drop after 5:46 of Spoonful, and even Tales of We have improved the quality by alleviating the feeling of dust caused by deterioration of the tape after Brave Ulysses. Therefore, this work is an upgraded version that is much easier to listen to than listening on the net! Please reaffirm their magnificence with this work, which contains extremely valuable sound sources that further support the legend of the legendary trio Cream.

As you can see, even though it was a super group consisting of three people who had already distinguished themselves as virtuosos of musical instruments in the UK at the time, they toured the UK, Germany, and Scandinavia without a break for promotion. I understand. And it was the world’s largest market, and it was also the time when the jazz and blues, which were the backgrounds of the three of them, entered the real America. In the first American tour, New York and San Francisco were the main performances, but they made their name in two cities, and they carried out a long-term tour of the United States, including other cities, and achieved a virtual conquest of the United States. But it was this second American tour. The outstanding techniques of the three artists made it possible to expand the blues interpretation performance at a loud volume that no one had practiced at the time, and to establish an improvisational performance that stretched the songs from several minutes in the studio version to more than 10 minutes. That changed the new genre of music called “rock”. The Fillmore performance at the beginning of the second American tour that proves that fact. It can be said that a piece of cream’s truth that follows up the official live sound source is contained here. We guarantee that you will not regret adding this upgraded version to your collection.
[Two performances a day that changed the set list]This performance was a promotional tour after the release of the new album “DISRAELI GEARS” at that time, but it was a tour with a new set list. And on top of the long-term tour of 4 months, it was a hard schedule with 2 performances on this day. It is considered to be an incomplete recording in terms of the number of recorded songs, and although Sunshine of Your Love and Spoonful are regrettably missing, this first appearance sound source is full of listening. First of all, the N.S.U. from the first show is the longest take ever at 16:37. In the improvisation part in the middle, the harmony of the three people who produce the difference between the “static” and “dynamic” grooves is wonderful. Cream was said to be an ego group that just played their own instruments as they wanted without worrying about each other’s members during live performances. You can see that each player senses each other’s play and measures the timing. Cream is a professional music group, and I think it proves that it was not just a group of egotists. The following Politician is a number that has not yet been announced at this point. Since the recording of “Wheels Of Fire” was progressing between tours, it can be seen that it was already completed at this point. Please also note that the ending is different from the subsequent farewell tour. Sunshine Of Your Love fades out at 3:52, but you can listen to Clapton’s middle solo completely. Recorded in the official live board “LIVE CREAM VOL.2”, this tour is as good as the take of San Francisco, Winterland performance on March 9th. Also, in this solo, you can see that Clapton was playing properly with “woman tone” because of this good sound quality. By the way, what Clapton used on this tour was the Gibson SG standard of “Flame Angel” famous for The Fool’s painting. Probably, according to the guitar course in the official DVD “Cream Dissolution Concert”, the tone was squeezed to zero and played with the rear pickup. Tales Of Brave Ulysses from the second show is also a great take that is comparable to the take recorded in “LIVE CREAM VOL.2”. It would be one of the proofs that Cream was showing high quality performances every day. Spoonful is also a gem take that is as good as the famous take of “WHEELS OF FIRE”. The composition of Clapton’s long solo that can be placed in the middle is impeccable and there is no place to fall. It is a regrettable take that is cut at 15:00 when the improv part is over and returns to the theme again, but you will be able to fully enjoy the real pleasure of this take so far.
A super valuable sound source that has seen the light of day after 55 years. It is a valuable sound source that is comparable to historical ancient ruins excavated while keeping its original shape. 【ロックを変革した伝説のバンド、クリームの未発表オーディエンスソースが奇跡の登場！】
何とこのたび、1968年3月の、クリームが全米を制覇したと言われる伝説のフィルモアウェスト公演の未公開だった日のモノラル・オーディエンス録音音源がネット上に登場しました！アップしたのは、この音源を録音したご本人です。55年の時を経て、なぜ今になって公開する気になったのか、理由は不明ですが、とにかくブリティッシュロックファンには奇跡とも言える嬉しいトピックに違いありません。しかもこの時代にもかかわらず、普通に聴ける良好な音質で録音されていることが素晴らしく、まさに奇跡と言っていいでしょう。この時のクリームの第2回全米ツアーは約4ヶ月に亘って行なわれ、中でも序盤の2月29日～3月10日にかけての西海岸エリアでの連続公演はツアーのハイライトとして正式ライブレコーディングが行なわれ、そのサウンドボード録音のライブテイクは、クリームのオフィシャル盤「WHEELS OF FIRE」、「LIVE CREAM」、「LIVE CREAM VOL.2」、日本盤CD「CREAM OF ERIC CLAPTON」等に切り売りされる形で収録され、クリームのライブでの凄さを世界中に認識させたものでした。アンダーグラウンドでは、3月10日のやや音質の悪いモノラル・サウンドボードソースが流出し、レアなWe’re Going Wrongやオフィシャルとは別テイクのSunshine Of Your Love、Steppin’Out、I’m So Gladを聴くことができたものの、未公開のライブテイクを堪能できるまでのレベルには及びませんでした。本作に収められた3月3日公演のテイクは、オフィシャルレコーディングされていなかった日ですので、当然全テイクが初登場です。しかも当店にて全編を精査し、その結果、場面によってバラバラの状態で遅くなっていたピッチをすべて正常なレベルに修正、Spoonfulの5:46以降の音圧落ちをも修正し、さらにはTales of Brave Ulysses以降のテープ劣化によるチリチリ感を緩和するという、クオリティの向上を図りました。従って、ネット上で聴くよりもはるかに聴きやすくなったグレードアップバージョンが本作ということになります！伝説のトリオ、クリームの伝説をさらに裏付ける貴重極まりない音源を収録した本作で、彼らの凄さを再認識してください。

これをご覧いただくと、当時既にイギリスでは楽器の名手として頭角を現していた三人によるスーパーグループだったにもかかわらず、プロモーションのため、イギリス国内、ドイツ、北欧を休みなくツアーしていたことが分かります。そして世界最大のマーケットであり、彼ら三人のバックグラウンドであったジャズとブルースの本場アメリカへの進出を実現した時期でもありました。第1回のアメリカン・ツアーではニューヨークとサンフランシスコがメインの公演でしたが、二都市でその名を轟かせた彼らが他の都市を含む全米長期ツアーを敢行し、事実上の全米制覇を成し遂げたのが、この第2回アメリカン・ツアーでした。当時は誰も実践していなかった大音量でのブルースの拡大解釈パフォーマンス、スタジオバージョンでは数分の楽曲を10分以上に膨らませるインプロヴィゼーションの確立、それを可能にした3人の卓越したテクニック。それが「ロック」というニュージャンルの音楽を変革したわけです。その事実を証明する第2回アメリカン・ツアーの序盤に当たったフィルモア公演。ここにオフィシャルライブ音源をさらにフォローアップするクリームの真実の一片が収められていると言ってもいいでしょう。グレードアップバージョンの本作をコレクションに加えていただいて後悔はないことを保証致します。
【セットリストを変えていた一日2公演】
本公演は、当時のニューアルバム「DISRAELI GEARS」のリリース後のプロモーションツアーに当たりましたが、新たなセットリストで臨んだツアーでした。そして4ヶ月という長期ツアーの上に、この日は2回公演というハードスケジュールだったのです。収録曲数の点から不完全収録だと考えられますし、Sunshine of Your Love とSpoonfulは惜しいことに欠落がありますが、初登場のこの音源には聴きどころが満載です。まず、ファーストショーからのN.S.U.は16:37に及ぶ史上最長テイク。中間のインプロヴィゼーションパートでは「静」と「動」のグルーヴの違いを見事に演出する三人の息の合い具合が素晴らしいです。クリームは、ライブ演奏中には互いのメンバーなどお構いなしに、ただ自分の楽器をやりたいように演奏するエゴ集団だと言われていましたが、このテイクを聴くと、完全アドリブにもかかわらず、互いのプレイをそれぞれが感じ取りながら緩急のタイミングを計っているいることが分かります。クリームはプロの音楽集団であり、単なるエゴイストの集まりではなかったことの証明かと思います。続くPoliticianは、この時点ではまだ未発表だったナンバーです。「Wheels Of Fire」のレコーディングはツアーの合間を縫って進行していましたので、この時点では既に完成していたことが窺えます。エンディングがその後のフェアウェルツアー時とは異なっていることにもご注目ください。Sunshine Of Your Loveは3:52でフェイドアウトしてしまいますが、クラプトンの中間のソロまでは完全に聴くことができます。オフィシャルライブ盤「LIVE CREAM VOL.2」に収録された、このツアー3月9日のサンフランシスコ、ウィンターランド公演のテイクにも劣らない出来映えです。また、このソロではこの音質の良さゆえに、クラプトンがきちんと「ウーマントーン」で弾いていたことが分かります。因みにこのツアーでクラプトンが使用したのは、ザ・フールのペインティングで有名な「炎の天使」のギブソンSGスタンダードでした。恐らくオフィシャルDVD『クリーム解散コンサート』中のギター講座のとおり、トーンをゼロに絞り、リアピックアップでプレイしたのでしょう。セカンドショーからのTales Of Brave Ulyssesもまた「LIVE CREAM VOL.2」に収録されたテイクと比較しても遜色ない素晴らしいテイクです。クリームが連日クオリティの高いパフォーマンスを披露していたことの証の一つでしょう。Spoonfulもまた「WHEELS OF FIRE」の有名なテイクに優るとも劣らない珠玉のテイクとなっています。中間に置けるクラプトンのロングソロの構成には非の打ちどころはなく、一切ダレる箇所はありません。インプロパートが終わり、再びテーマに戻る15:00でカットされてしまう惜しいテイクですが、このテイクの醍醐味はここまでで十分味わっていただけるでしょう。
55年の時を経て日の目を見た超貴重音源。原形を留めたまま発掘された歴史的古代遺跡にも匹敵するような価値ある音源です。そのグレードアップを図った当店だけの本作で55年前のフィルモアウェストにタイムスリップしてみてください。
