BAD COMPANY in 1974, which was at its peak with the appearance of shock. The legendary soundboard album, which has reigned as a symbol along with the debut album, has been brushed up. It is a release decision with a press CD that leaves the shine forever.
“March 9, 1974 Newcastle performance” is engraved on this work. It is the stereo sound board recording. The biggest point of this work is the completely official sound, but the timing of the dawn immediately after the start of the activity is also important. In order to understand the initial sore, let’s first unravel from the schedule at that time.

This is the 1974 BAD COMPANY. The first release was the leading single “Can’t Get Enough”, but the Newcastle performance of this work was two months ago, and it was the very early stage of the 3rd performance on the existing tour date (before “March There was also a theory that it was on the 8th, but now it seems that it has settled on the theory of ‘March 9′).
The quality of this work, which conveys “the scene where history began to move”, is also historical. The master itself is the highest peak version known for a long time, but this time it is finely mastered. It was permanently saved after updating the highest peak. The point is “repair”. Rather than arbitrarily altering the sound to be flashy, we recreated the 1974 scene as accurately as possible. The working method is simple and faithful to the basics. Correction of pitch and phase shift, treatment of fine noise, etc. This time, the sound pressure was especially big. Separately, it is powerful with sound pressure earning! I’m not saying that. Instead, the sound pressure was (subtly) unstable in the conventional master. It was a random change, so I can’t generalize, but it felt like the sound pressure dropped roughly towards the latter half of the tape. In this work, such “shaking” is also stabilized. I pushed the perfection as a music work to the limit.
The stage where the glory just started is revived with that brushed-up sound. The set unique to the early days is also important, so let’s organize it here.

… and it looks like this. Unfortunately, “Little Miss Fortune” starts with a cut-in, but the others are complete recordings. Not only the debut work “BAD COMPANY”, but also “Easy On My Soul” and “The Stealer” from the FREE era. Especially rare is B.B. King’s cover “Rock Me Baby”, a very early limited song that was only recorded in 1974.
And the performance that spells out such a set is profound. too deep. BAD COMPANY itself is the successor to FREE, but its color is particularly rich in this work. After all, even if they feel a response to the new band and debut work in this work, they have not achieved actual success. While keeping expectations and ambitions hidden in his heart, the cool glue has not yet appeared on the surface. The single-mindedness to prove the ability and taste with all one’s might is refreshing.
In terms of the set, the masterpieces of the debut work are piled up, but the depth of the performance is even more wonderful. It is a historical sound board album that will be a “live performance version of BAD CO.” A piece that has been treated to every detail and polished as a musical work that will be handed down to future generations. そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1974年３月９日ニューカッスル公演」。そのステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。本作最大のポイントは完全オフィシャル級のサウンドにあるわけですが、それと共に活動開始直後という黎明のタイミングも重要。その初期っぷりをご理解頂くためにも、まずは当時のスケジュールから紐解いてみましょう。

これが1974年のBAD COMPANY。最初のリリースは先行シングル『Can’t Get Enough』だったわけですが、本作のニューカッスル公演はその２ヶ月も前、現存するツアーデートでは３公演目という極初期でした（なお以前は「３月８日」説もありましたが、現在は「３月９日」説で固まったようです）。
そんな「歴史が動き始めた現場」を伝える本作は、クオリティも歴史的。マスター自体は以前から知られる最高峰版ですが、今回はそれを細密マスタリング。最高峰を更新させた上で永久保存しました。そのポイントは「補修」。無闇矢鱈に派手な音に改変するのではなく、1974年の現場音を可能な限り正確に再現したのです。その作業手法はシンプルにして基本に忠実。ピッチや位相ズレの補正、微細なノイズのトリートメント等々。今回、特に大きかったのは音圧です。別に音圧稼ぎでド迫力！と言っているのではありません。そうではなく、従来マスターでは音圧が（微妙に）不安定だったのです。ランダムに変化していたので一概には言えませんが、大雑把にテープ後半に向けて音圧が下がっていく感じでした。本作は、そんな「揺れ」もビシッと安定化。音楽作品としての完成度を極限まで突き詰めたのです。
そのブラッシュアップ・サウンドで甦るのは、今まさに栄光が始まったステージ。初期ならではのセットも重要ですので、ここで整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。残念ながら「Little Miss Fortune」はカットインで始まりますが、他は完全収録です。デビュー作『BAD COMPANY』だけでなく、FREE時代の「Easy On My Soul」「The Stealer」も披露。特にレアなのはB.B.キングのカバー「Rock Me Baby」でして、1974年内にしか記録のない極初期の限定曲です。
そして、そんなセットを綴るパフォーマンスが深い。深すぎる。BAD COMPANYそのものがFREEの後継ではありますが、本作では特にそのカラーが濃厚。何しろ、本作での彼らは新バンドやデビュー作に手応えは感じてはいても、実際の成功を収めたわけではない。期待と野心を胸に秘めつつ、まだイケイケなノリが表に出てきていない。実力と滋味を全力で証明しようというひたむきさが瑞々しいのです。
セット的にもデビュー作の名曲がてんこ盛りですが、それ以上に演奏の深みが素晴らしい。名実共に「生演奏版のBAD CO.」となる歴史的サウンドボード・アルバムです。細部に至るまでトリートメントを施し、後世に語り継ぐ音楽作品として磨き込まれた１枚。どうぞ、永久保存プレスCDで存分に味わい尽くしてください。
