最近はちょっと音沙汰のなかったZEPレア音源発掘チーム「Dogs of Doom」が久々に公開してくれたのは1983年のARMSツアーからジミー・ペイジのセットのステレオ・サウンドボード録音。しかもアメリカン・レグからLAフォーラム公演という驚きの発掘。ARMSアメリカン・レグは昔からおなじみMSGの流出プロショット映像と各種良好オーディエンスで占められている感があり、今になってジミーのパートだけながらもサウンドボードが出てくるとは。
しかもARMSツアーのLAフォーラムと言えば昨年マイク・ミラード録音の「L.A. FORUM 1983 2ND NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD FIRST GENERATION TAPES」があっという間に売り切れてしまったのも記憶に新しいところですが、そちらが12月6日のライブを捉えていたのに対し、こちらは初日である5日。そちらをお持ちの方であれば、比べてみると「Prelude」を弾き終えたところでジミーの発したMCがまるで違うことが解るはずで、このことだけでも意義のある発掘であると実感してもらえるかと。

オフィシャルで昔からおなじみ9月のアルバート・ホールではジミーにとってZEP解散以来初めて自身のアクトとなるステージだったことから、がっちがちに緊張している様子が映し出されていましたが、アメリカン・レグでは別人のように楽しそうでMCも饒舌なのは先のMSG映像が証明していた通り。それが大好きなLAフォーラムへの帰還ともなればジミーのご機嫌ぶりは相当なもので、先の「Prelude」前後のやり取りを聞いてもらうだけでもはっきりと感じられるはず。
それほどご機嫌な様子からステージに現れただけのことはあり、ここでのジミーのプレイは驚くほど素晴らしい。もちろんARMS一連のステージのおかげでライブ・パフォーマーとしてのリハビリが始まった時期ですので、プレイのタッチは粗い。だがしかし、粗いなりにジミーが非常に生き生きと弾きまくっている様子がリアルに伝わってくるのには驚かされます。この時期でこれほどまで弾けている日は他にないのではないでしょうか。
それに今回発掘された音源はPAアウトのサウンドボードながらステレオで音質も非常に良好。それ故にダイレクト感も強い訳ですが、それでもなおジミーがここで聞かせたプレイには他の日と違う堂々とした力強さがある。
さすがに汗をかき始めて手が滑りやすく（おまけに気分も盛り上がってきて）なったのであろう「Stairway to Heaven」インストゥルメンタルだけはイントロからして冷や冷やさせられる場面があり、しかも粗が目立ってしまうのですが、それも愛嬌というもの。

またARMSアメリカン・レグではジミーのパートでポール・ロジャーズが参加し、これが後のザ・ファームの伏線となった訳ですが、それ以前にアルバート・ホールの時と比べてステージ・アクトとして俄然洗練されている。やはりジミーには優れたボーカリストが必要なのだと再認識させられる音源だとも言える。面白いことに彼が登場してなおさらジミーはプレイが上向き、なおかつロジャースのMCに割って入るほど。とにかくここでの彼は本当に楽しそう。
よってジミーのパートのみという収録ながらも聞き応えは十分。それどころかZEP解散からファーム結成までの間では一番充実した彼のプレイが聞かれるのでは？おまけに「Midnight Moonlight」を始めとしてこの時のジミーならではなセットリストが今となっては貴重。
そして今回の限定プレスCDリリースに際しては70％も高かったピッチを厳格に調整。9月にこの音源がネット上に現れた際、あまりに高いピッチにさじを投げてしまったマニアもすくなくないのでは。この問題がアジャストされたことで聞きやすさは一気に向上。そんな正確なピッチとステレオ・サウンドボード録音にてジミーの知られざる名演をじっくりお楽しみください！

The 1983 ARMS concert, which left a name for the historical co-starring of the three major guitarists and triggered Jimmy Page’s return to the scene. The main press is the first soundboard album that lets you directly flow the live performance of the US tour, which is different from the UK version, into your brain as well as Page’s solo stage. For that special bonus, we have prepared a multi-camera pro shot that can be called a video edition.
“December 9, 1983 New York performance” is included in this work. This is a multi-camera pro shot taken at the iconic large venue “Madison Square Garden”. The ARMS concert was also toured in the United States after the successful London 2 performance. Again, let’s confirm the position of this work from the schedule at that time.

All 11 performances in the above 5 cities. The most famous of the four types of pro shots is the first day in the UK, where the official release was realized, but this work is the exact opposite. It was the US edition that I visited on the tour, and it was the last day of the concert. This show is known for its outflow professional shots with vivid time counters, and this work is mastered by overseas core enthusiasts while extracting only the appearance scenes of Page from the highest peak master. Not only has the image quality and sound quality been refined, but it has also recorded the scenes that had been cut so far, and finished it as a complete version (of Page).
The finish is really wonderful. Especially big is “April Fool” played in the co-starring section. Until now, I had jumped from the ending of the previous song “With a Little Help From My Friends” to the final song “Goodnight Irene”, but in this work, from the missing part to another best recording. It also includes “April Fool”, which was cut as it is. Of course, the professional shot video of “April Fool” has not been found until now, so in this work it is supplemented with a still image. The last “Good night Irene” has some professional shots, but the maniac who compiled this work recorded it as it is with “separate recording + still image” until the end (I guess, but I hated the discomfort of switching around. prize).
The final day of the resurrection was full of highlights. “Boogie Mama,” “Midnight Moonlight,” “With a Little Help From My Friends,” and “April Fool,” which weren’t seen in the Royal Albert Hall footage, are also delicious, and Paul who participated in place of Steve Winwood in the UK edition.・ Rogers’ singing voice is also excellent. This co-starring led to the formation of THE FIRM, and the performances were unfolded so that both males could confirm their response. “Stairway to Heaven”, which I played alone in London, has been upgraded with a solo turn with Clapton & Beck. And the co-starring set, which you can’t even taste on the main press CD, is interesting because it’s different from the UK version. “With a Little Help From My Friends” sung by Joe Cocker who participated only in the US edition. For Cocker, who was in trouble at the time, he could witness the song title as it was, singing with the help of his friends.

The US tour version is a bit different from the official version of the UK version. It is a professional shot that summarizes the page appearance stage on the final day. One piece that makes the image of “the other side” that would have spread to the main press CD, and enhances the taste of the live album dozens of times. Please enjoy it together.

３大ギタリストの歴史的共演で名を残し、ジミー・ペイジのシーン復帰の契機ともなった1983年のARMSコンサート。本編プレスは、ペイジのソロ・ステージだけながら英国編とも異なる米国ツアーの生演奏を脳みそに直接流し込んでくれる初登場サウンドボード・アルバムです。その特別ボーナスには、映像編とも言うべきマルチカメラ・プロショットをご用意しました。
そんな本作に収められているのは「1983年12月９日ニューヨーク公演」。象徴的な大会場“マディソン・スクエア・ガーデン”で撮影されたマルチカメラ・プロショットです。ARMSコンサートはロンドン２公演が成功を収めた後、米国でもツアー形式で実施されました。ここでも当時のスケジュールから本作のポジションを確かめておきましょう。

以上の５都市・全11公演。４種のプロショットで一番有名なのは、公式リリースも実現した英国初日ですが、本作はすべてが真逆。ツアーで巡った米国編であり、全日程でも最終日となるコンサートでした。このショウはタイム・カウンターも生々しい流出プロショットが知られており、本作はその最高峰マスターからペイジの出演シーンだけを抽出しつつ、海外のコア・マニアがマスタリング。画質・音質を磨き上げているだけでなく、これまでカットされていたシーンも収録して（ペイジ篇の）完全版に仕上げたものなのです。
その仕上がりは実に素晴らしい。特に大きいのは、共演セクションで演奏される「April Fool」でしょう。これまでは前曲「With a Little Help From My Friends」のエンディングから最終曲「Goodnight Irene」へ飛んでいたわけですが、本作では欠けパートから別の極上録音へ以降。そのまま丸ごとカットされていた「April Fool」も収録しているのです。もちろん、「April Fool」のプロショット映像は現在に至るまで見つかっていないので、本作では静止画で補填。ラストの「Goodnight Irene」は部分的にプロショットもありますが、本作を編纂したマニアはそのまま「別録音＋静止画」で終演まで収録しています（推測ですが、コロコロ切り替わる違和感を嫌ったのでしょう）。
そうして甦った最終日は、見どころ満載。ロイヤル・アルバート・ホール映像では観られなかった「Boogie Mama」「Midnight Moonlight」「With a Little Help From My Friends」「April Fool」も美味しいですし、英国編のスティーヴ・ウィンウッドに代わって参加したポール・ロジャースの歌声も絶品。この共演が縁でTHE FIRM結成にも発展したわけであり、両雄が手応えを確かめるような演奏が繰り広げられていく。ロンドンでは独りで弾いていた「Stairway to Heaven」はクラプトン＆ベックとのソロ回しが入ってアップ・グレードしています。そして本編プレスCDでも味わえない共演セットも、英国編との違いが面白い。米国編だけに参加したジョー・コッカーの歌う「With a Little Help From My Friends」。当時は苦境にあったコッカーにとって、曲名そのままに友人たちの助けを借りて歌い上げる姿を目撃できるのです。

オフィシャル化された英国編とはまたひと味違った米国ツアー篇。その最終日のペイジ出演ステージをひとまとめにしたプロショットです。本編プレスCDに広がっていたであろう“向こう側”をイメージさせ、ライヴアルバムの旨みを数十倍にハネ上げてくれる１枚。どうぞ、併せてたっぷりとお楽しみください。
