First of all, the stage on September 18, 2006 of Disc-1 and 2 started at RAINBOW’s “Spotlight Kid”. For Don’s solo live, the main part of the sound that overflows from PA as a matter of course is the keyboard sound of Don. The set list is centered around the songs of RAINBOW as if to summarize Don ‘s career. いまやDEEP PURPLEのキーボーディストとして不動の位置づけを勝ち取ったドンですが、それまでの彼はRAINBOWやOZZY OSBOURNEでの様々なバンド活動や膨大な数にのぼるセッション・ワークから、コージー・パウエル以上の「渡り鳥」プレイヤー、アルバムにゲストで呼ばれるセッションマンというイメージもありました。しかし多くのミュージシャンとの仕事で得た多彩なキャリアは、他ならぬドン自身が血肉として吸収し、もとより幅広かった音楽的な裾野をさらに拡大していました。本作に収録された2本のスペシャル・ライヴに網羅されたセットリストは、’70年代から現代に至るDEEP PURPLE系統ハードロック・ヘヴィメタルのエッセンスであり、ファンは彼の歩んだキャリアがいかに偉大であるか思い知らされるでしょう！

ディスク1と2へは’06年9月18日に行われたショウを収録しています。抜群の見通しとコシのあるサウンドは絶品で、イントロからファンの期待感をいやが上にも高めるでしょう。ショウの幕開けを告げるドンのキーボードソロは、ゲイリー・ムーアのライヴを聴き込んだファンの方ならお気づきになるように「Majestuso E’ Virtouso」をフィーチャーしています。この重厚なイントロが光を放つような「Spotlight Kid」で解放される瞬間は、何度聴いても鳥肌モノです！　ヴォーカルを務めるカール・センタンスは、この時点ではドンとコンビネーションを組んだばかりですが、ハスキーなパワフルボイスで熱く歌い込むスタイルは、この「Spotlight Kid」や「Love’s No Friend」などのRAINBOWクラシックから「Still Of The Night」のWHITESNAKEまで、ナンバー多様な楽曲が盛り込まれた本ライヴでもその実力をいかんなく発揮しています。特にハスキーな声質が曲想にフィットした「Still Of The Night」はファンを驚かせるはずです。
この「Still Of The Night」を聴けばお判りになると思いますが、本ライヴではスペシャルゲストとしてオーストリアを代表する女性ヴァイオリニスト，リディア・バイチが参加しているのが特徴です。数々の国際的コンクールで受賞実績を持つ彼女は、オーストリア国立銀行より1727年製の銘器ガルネリ・デル・ジェス “ex Guilet” を使用機材として貸与されているそうで、その事実だけでもどれほどの優れたプレイヤーかがお判りになると思います。
彼女はロック・ミュージシャンとの共演にも前向きで、’10年3月に行われたイアン・ギランのオーケストラ共演ライヴでも協力していましたが、この頃からDEEP PURPLE関連のミュージシャンとは接点があったようです。ここでは上記した「Still Of The Night」を皮切りに「Weiss Heim」・「Difficult To Cure」といったRAINBOWの名インスト、さらに「Since You Been Gone」の前奏として取り上げられる「Brandenburg Concert / Over The Rainbow」において、優雅でありながら荘厳、そして妙なる調べを聴かせてくれます。特に「Wiss Heim」と「Difficult To Cure」におけるドンとリディアのセッションは心を奪われてしまいそうな美しさで、これを聴く事が出来た私達は本当に幸せだと、声を大にして叫びたくなります。
音質はショウの後半でますます向上し、会場のエコーも効果的に活かしたビッグでスケール感のある最高の音で楽しめます。リディアのヴァイオリンもフィーチャーされた「Lost In Hollywood」は圧巻のスペクタクルで、ラストの「Black Night」はお祭り騒ぎのにぎやかさで、それぞれ聴き手を痺れさせるでしょう！　ハードロックの名曲群とヴァイオリンの才媛がめぐり逢った奇跡の一夜は、絶対に聴き逃せません！

ディスク3そして4では、前回のライヴより4ヵ月後に行われた’07年1月27日のライヴを楽しむ事ができます。こちらも’06年同様に圧倒的な高音質が魅力で、素晴らしい見通しとすっきりした高音の抜け、重厚な音の厚みが、名曲の数々を圧倒的な迫力で楽しませてくれます。
この年のイントロは前年と異なり、ドンが参加してきた名曲・名演をコラージュしたS.E.が用いられています。さらにオープニングで取り上げられるのは当時のPURPLEの新曲「Rapture Of The Deep」です。ギランと異なる個性を持つカールの歌声とキーボード主体のアレンジは、この曲に新たな角度からアプローチしており、ドンのソロ曲のような色合いすら感じさせます。
その後は「Spotlight Kid」や「Bad Girl」「Still Of The Night」など、曲順は一部で異なるものの、前年を踏襲したセットを展開します。ギターを務めるドカ・Z・カイトナーにドラムのベルンハルト・ヴェルツといった地元のミュージシャンも、クリス・チャイルズ（THUNDER）のベースと一体感を増して、安定したバンドサウンドを繰り出しています。
この年はディスク1・2におけるリディア・バイチのようなサプライズは無いものの、よりハードロック然とした骨太な演奏を聴かせます。特に注目すべきはドンが’88年にリリースした1stソロ「K2」からセレクトされた「Whiteout」です。ゲイリー・ムーアやコージー・パウエルが最高の仕事を聴かせた同曲はファンの人気も高い隠れた名曲ですが、その性質上ライヴ演奏された事がほとんど無かったので、本作においてライヴ音源を聴けるのは嬉しいの一言です。続く「Is This Love」ではカヴァデールにも劣らないエモーショナルな歌を披露し、ロマンティックなムードをかもし出します。
ライヴの後半を飾る「Mr, Crowley」はドンにとっても思い入れの強い曲で、今でもキーボードイントロをDEEP PURPLEのソロで披露するほど。RAINBOWやDEEP PURPLEの曲が並ぶ本セットでオジーの楽曲は違和感がありそうに感じるかも知れませんが、実際に演奏を聴くと、荘厳さを増幅された演奏にはド肝を抜かれます。カールはオジーのような”唯一無二のキャラクター”ではありませんが、実力者である彼が歌う事で、曲のポテンシャルがフルに引き出されています！
ライヴ後半の流れはドンのソロライヴでもお約束のパターンに当てはめられていますが、この日のアンコール「Gimme Some Loving」では、中盤にバンドのインストのほか、ドンがちらっと「Woman From Tokyo」をプレイするなど、最後までファンを楽しませる要素に事欠きません。

本作はDEEP PURPLE・RAINBOWゆかりのサウンドを愛する全てのファンを魅了し、幻想のようなひと時を味わわせてくれるでしょう。リディア・バイチと夢のコラボレーションを果たした’06年に、ハードロックの王道を見せつけた’07年と、その音楽的クオリティの高さは単なるセルフカヴァー・ライヴとは一線を画しています。これほど豪奢なライヴはブリティッシュ・ロックシーン広しと言えども彼にしか成し得ないでしょう。
音楽の都ウィーンで繰り広げられたきらびやかなキーボードの饗宴を、2公演・約220分にわたって心ゆくまでご堪能ください。演奏だけでなく音質面でもずば抜けたこの音源が「隠れた傑作」で終わる事など余りにも勿体無い！聴いて絶対に損はさせない至高の一本です！

DEEP PURPLEのドン・エイリーがソロで行った、2006年9月18日と、2007年1月27日のオーストリア-ウイーンでのステージをクリアで良好な音質のオーディエンス録音で収録したCD-R。
まず、Disc-1,2の2006年9月18日のステージはRAINBOWの「Spotlight Kid」でスタート。ドンのソロ・ライヴの為、当然のようにPAから溢れ出る音のメインはドンのキーボード・サウンドだ。セット・リストはドンのキャリアを総括するかのようにRAINBOWの曲を中心に組まれている。中でもRAINBOWの「Bad Girl」は貴重だし、オーヴァー・アレンジながらOZZY OSBOURNE BAND時代の「Mr. Crowley」には、あの頃を思い起こさせてくれるに十分なノスタルジーを感じさせてくれる。終盤の「All Night Long」からはドンをある意味、メジャーにしたとも言えるRAINBOW時代を再現するような曲が続き、ラストはDEEP PURPLEの「Black Night」で今のドンの立ち位置を再確認させてくれるかのようだ。
Disc-3,4は、2007年1月27日のステージで一部、曲順こそ異なるが、基本的なセット・リストは2006年9月18日と同様だ。この日のステージも観客の反応を楽しむようにプレイするドンを中心に暖かい空気に包まれてステージが進行する。この日はオリジナルに近いアレンジでプレイされる「Mr. Crowley」や、ラストではSPENCER DAVIS GROUPの「Gimme Some Lovin’」をカヴァーしてステージを締め括る。
