In January 1969, the enormous material shot and recorded at Twickenham Film Studio and Apple Studio. Systematic ones were released, but this was not the case for the video. This work is an epoch-making title that can organize the video in order of date in order and synchronize with the actual session schedule.

The video of the get back session was recorded on the premise of the movie. For this reason, the session is held in Twickenham’s film studio instead of the recording studio in the first half. While listening to music, you can see the fact that it is a project that focuses on shooting. As you all know, the movie is a full-color work, but there are two types of flowing images, color and monochrome, that strange things happen. Among the shots I suppose they were shot at the same time at the same place, why monochrome images exist, this is originally color was converted to monochrome in the process of leakage, and contents are also almost dub Rather, it is a mystery just to exist as a completely different picture. 【DVD: TWICKENHAM STUDIO】
January 3 is a scene where John and Yoko are watching George playing “All Things Must Pass” while watching cigarettes. Even January 8, the scene of “All Things Must Pass” is the main. I think that it will be understood by looking through, but unlike the color image shot for movies, the one recorded in this work is another camera, and the main is John and Yoko. The video of either day is photographed mainly by John and Yoko. Is not this a big clue that can guess the origins of these images? Obviously this is a stuff taken by John and Yoko staff separately from the movie and I do not know if I was watching something in the future in the future but it can be inferred that Paul and other members are not involved .

This monochrome video also has a plurality of cameras rotated, and there is an image called another shot of the same scene. Here, the plurality of cameras can be compared in parallel. Especially, comparison between color image and monochrome image is interesting as it is understood what was being taken for each target. 随分と煮詰まった感のあるビートルズのマテリアルであるが、ここに驚きのタイトルをマニアの方々に提示出来るのを非常に嬉しく思う。初登場映像をふんだんに盛り込んだゲット・バック・セッションから、音源と映像のセットである。1969年1月、トゥイッケンナム・フィルム・スタジオとアップル・スタジオで撮影及び録音された膨大なマテリアル。音源は体系的なものがリリースされていたが、こと映像に関してはその限りではなかった。音源の多くにピーという映像と同期させる信号が含まれていることから、映像マテリアルもかなり残されているのではと予測されていたが、今までほとんど陽の目を見る事がなく、また断片的に見る事のできた映像も日付クレジットがあやふやで、ことゲット・バック・セッションの映像を体系的にまとめたものがなかった。本作は、それを初めて日付順に映像を整理し、実際のセッションのスケジュールに同期して視聴できる画期的なタイトルである。

ゲット・バック・セッションの映像は、映画を前提として収録されたものである。そのため前半はレコーディング・スタジオではなくトウィッケンナムのフィルム・スタジオでセッションが行なわれている。音楽もさることながら、撮影に重点を置いたものである企画であるという事実が伺える。ご存知の通り映画は全編カラー作品であるが、不思議な事に流出映像はカラーとモノクロの2種類が存在する。同じ時に同じ場所で撮影されたと思しきショットもある中で、何故モノクロ映像が存在するのか、これは本来カラーであったものが流出の過程でモノクロに変換されたものなのか、そして内容もほとんどダブらず、まったく別の映像として存在するだけに謎である。本シリーズは、「LET IT BE DAY BY DAY in color」「LET IT BE DAY BY DAY in black & white」と題し、カラー映像セットとモノクロ映像セットでわけてリリースされることになった。本作はモノクロの部である。

【DVD : TWICKENHAM STUDIO】
1月3日は「All Things Must Pass」を演奏するジョージをジョンとヨーコがタバコをふかしながら見ているシーンである。1月8日においても「All Things Must Pass」のシーンがメインである。ただしジョージよりもジョンにカメラが向けられており、特にヨーコとの仲睦まじい瞬間が多くとらえられている。なるほどヨーコは単にスタジオに同席していたというだけでなく、演奏中もジョンの近くにいたというのがわかる。まるでメンバーのひとりのような立ち振る舞いで、よくジョンはこれを許しているなというのが正直な感想である。1月9日は古くから『Sweet Apple Trax』として知られる音源の映像版という感じである。まさにあのアルバムでメインとなっていたオールディーズ・ナンバーを次々に歌うシーンが映像で見られるというのが不思議な感じがする。1月14日はバンド・メンバーが円形になり着座しディスカッションをしている様子が収められている。ポールは足をぶらぶらさせながらジョンが一生懸命しゃべっているのを聞いている。

舞台はアップルスタジオに映された1月21日はリハーサルに入るその更に前段階のスタジオの様子である。メンバーがあれこれ試行しているところをリンゴが退屈そうに黙って観ているのが印象的である。ジョージは黙々と煙草をふかしている。1月23日はヨーコの独壇場である。ジョンがギターを膝の上に乗せ、叩くことで独特の音色を出しており、それをバックにヨーコが叫ぶものである。ジョンがギターを使って様々な不思議な音を出そうとしているのが面白い。マイクに近づけたり、アンプに近付けてハウリングを起こしたり、とにかく何か違った音を出そうと試行している。「Get Back」の演奏シーンでは、まだ軽く合わせる段階なのか、皆椅子に座って演奏している。また仲良くスタジオに座ってプレイバックを聴くシーンなども収録されている。メンバー以外にも数多くの来客がスタジオを訪れていたのがわかる。1月24日はメンバーの到着シーンである。白い車から降り立ったジョンとヨーコが降りるなりすぐに手を繋いでビルの中に入って行く。ジョージはギターと共に何やら書類を多く抱えて車を降り、ビルの前でサインを求めるファンを振り払って中に入って行く。リンゴもファンに声をかけられながら、軽く会話を交わしてビルに入って行く。三者三様の対応に個性が出ているのではないか。スタジオではジョンとヨーコがお揃いの上下白い服装で並んで座っている。

1月25日のメインは「Two Of Us」のレコーディングである。ビートルズが一生懸命リハーサルをしている横で、なんとヨーコはスタジオに筆と墨汁を持ち込み習字を始めるのである。達筆過ぎて何と書いてあるのかわからないが、紙に向かって考えながら漢字で文字を綴っている。信じられないだろうが、ヨーコが、ビートルズが演奏している横で、お習字をしているのである。その場にいたヨーコ以外には意味不明な漢字で書いているのである。なるほど他のメンバーがヨーコを疎ましく思った気持ちがわからないでもない。

1月26日は音源ではお馴染みの「Let It B、C、D・・・」と歌うジョンの様子が映像で見る事が出来るのが興味深いところ。またヨーコにもマイクが与えられているのにも注目である。今回映像としては初めて可愛らしいヘザーちゃんがポールやジョンの横ではにかんでいる様子も収録されている。1月27日はスタジオでプレイバックを聴いている様子である。ジョンがカメラを意識しておどけているのがいかにもジョンのキャラが出ている。もちろん隣にはヨーコがぴったりくっついている。1月28日はビリー・プレストンを交えてのリハーサルの様子。1月29日、ジョンがスタジオで靴紐を締め直している最中、ヨーコが耳元で何やら伝えている。神聖不可侵なビートルズのスタジオに入って、ジョンに一体何を話しているのだろうか。他のメンバーが楽器を持って演奏しているにもかかわらずジョンは手ぶらでただそれを聴いているのみである。そしてルーフトップの日1月30日は、カラーで実際の演奏シーンがあれだけ豊富に残されているのに対し、ここでは短いながら屋上に上がる前の準備の貴重な様子が収録されている。ヨーコがジョンの髪をとかしている。そして最終日1月31日は近年発掘された「Two Of Us」の別ショット映像。こんなものが存在した事実そのものに驚く。演奏しているメンバーそのものだけでなく、それを撮影しているスタッフごとカメラに収められている所に、この映像が撮影された意図が感じられる。

通して見ればわかると思うが、映画用に撮影されたカラー映像と異なり、本作に収録されているのは別カメラであり、そしてメインがジョンとヨーコなのである。いずれの日の映像もジョンとヨーコを中心として撮影されている。これがこれら映像の出自を推測できる大きな手掛かりではないだろうか。明らかにこれはジョンとヨーコ側のスタッフが映画とは別に撮影したものであり、将来何らかの作品を目していたかどうかわからないが、ポールやその他のメンバーは関与していない映像なのではないかと推測できる。

このモノクロの映像も複数台のカメラが回されており、同じシーンの別ショットという映像が存在する。ここではそれら複数のカメラを並列して見比べられるようにしたものである。特にカラー映像とモノクロ映像との比較は、それぞれ何を対象に撮影されていたかがわかり興味深い。ヘザーちゃんにとってはスタジオもパパがいる遊び場のような感覚なのか、スタジオの床で寝転がっている様子など微笑ましい。

そして本作の映像の最後は、1970年2月25日に放送されたエド・サリバン・ショウをまるごと収録している。といってもエアチェックではなく冒頭のカチンコから収録した流出映像である。この日は「The Beatles Songbook」と題された特別番組で、ビートルズの最新映像として「Two Of Us」などが放送された他、様々なアーティストがビートルズの曲を独自にカバーして披露するという企画である。時代がかったダンスやバレエ、パフォーマンスが見どころと言えるかもしれない。興味深いのは若きディオンヌ・ワーウィックとペギー・リーが、1965年放送時のポール本人の映像と一緒に歌うという演出で披露された「Yesterday」であろう。時代を考慮しても画期的な試みであると言える。

紹介する順序が逆になってしまったが、本作には映像とは別に3枚のCDが同時に収録されている。ディスク1とディスク２の冒頭までは、1969年1月22日からルーフトップ・コンサートを経て31日のアップル・スタジオでのステレオ音源が収録されている。

最初は、いかなる理由かわからないが、2003年ネイキッドのリリースに合わせて制作されたラジオ・プログラムであるが、結局放送されずにお蔵入りとなった音源である。ゲット・バック・セッションの音源を聴きながらポールやリンゴのインタビューなどが収録されている。「One After 909」の当時の音源を聴きながら、2003年のポールがそれに合わせて歌うという萌えるシーンなどがある。後半はラジオ放送のEPKである。このようなものが作られた事からも、このプログラムにかなり放送局が力を入れていた事がわかる。 ディスク3に収録されているのは、2003年11月にアメリカで放送されたラジオ・ショウである。トラック・リストを見てわかる通り、お蔵入りとなった先述のプログラムが、形を変えて再編集され、このように放送されたものであるというのがわかる。

マニア必携Mクローデル・レーベルより、初登場映像を数多く含んだ、1969年1月のゲット・バック・セッションの貴重な映像集である。しかも日付順に収録されているため資料的な価値も高い作りとなっている。今まで音源は数多く、ほとんど全てが流出しているが、こと映像となると淋しい限りの状況であった。本作ではそのような現状を解消する必見映像である。なかなか初登場音源ないし映像が出にくくなっていたビートルズのマテリアルを取り巻く状況において、この作品は驚きをもってマニアに受け入れられるであろうと自信を持っている。美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。スリップケース付。
