High-quality audience album from the legendary W.A.S.P. first visit to Japan in 1984!
W.A.S.P.’s first visit to Japan was a total of 5 performances. This work was recorded for the fourth performance of “October 22, 1984, Nakano Sunplaza”. The recording was once released on the HSD label under the title “L.O.V.E. REVOLUTION”, and this time the original master was provided by the HSD label and the latest remaster was given. It’s been 36 years since W.A.S.P.’s first performance in Japan, but the recording is a super rare sound source that has only been excavated.
Although it was such a rare sound source, the sound quality was outstanding. Originally it is not a band that lets you hear beautiful sounds, so if you listen to it for a while, it will roar quite wildly, but this is exactly the sound that is faithful to the scene. In fact, it sounds like a roar, and the outline of each instrument never becomes muddy or cracked, and the rough voice of Blackie Lawless screaming wildly seems to be super-realistic even in its particles. If you remember the dustiness of MORTOR HEAD, it would be easier to imagine.
Meanwhile, the audience seems to be overwhelmed by the band’s enthusiasm rather than enthusiasm. The cheers that you hear after each song are more like “finally heard” than “boiling up”. Of course, I can see that he is screaming during the performance, but it is drowned out by the performance that hits with energy like thrash metal. The main press DVD “LIVE AT THE LYCEUM, LONDON” is a definitive masterpiece video, but if you dare to complain, it was covered with strangely loud cheers. I was wondering “Why do you do that?”, But I was convinced by listening to this work. The sound of the band is so terrifying that you can’t hear the cheers unless you cover it.
In Japan, the production was suppressed due to various regulations, but even so, there are recorded scenes where the audience is very excited, such as “Tormentor” which murders Nikkatsu actresses and “School Daze” which is bathed in blood glue. In particular, on this day, we even showed a performance that brought female customers to the stage and tied them to the drum kit with handcuffs. Despite this, the band sound rang vigorously and I couldn’t hear the fuss of the audience. Again, there are no over-input cracks or distortions in this work. The scene was like this. A band sound that drowns out the cheers even in the audience recording … What a terrible live performance!

From the opening SE of THE DOORS to the announcement of goods sales after the performance, it is a complete live album that thoroughly picked up the sound of the site. A one-and-only super-masterpiece recording that captures the appearance of a new shock rock hero overrunning Japan in a super-clear / super-realistic way. Even if you are not interested in W.A.S.P. at all, it is worth taking a full-body bath with such a powerful sound!

W.A.S.P.の初来日は、全５公演。本作が記録されたのは、その中の４回目となる「1984年10月22日・中野サンプラザ」公演です。かつてHSDレーベルから「L.O.V.E. REVOLUTION」というタイトルでリリースされたこともある録音で、今回はHSDレーベルからオリジナル・マスターを提供していただき、最新リマスターを施しました。W.A.S.P.の初来日公演から36年にもなりますが、その録音は、未だにこの１本しか発掘されていない超レア音源なのです。
それほどのレア音源ながら、音質は抜群。もともと美しいサウンドを聴かせるバンドではありませんから、ちょっと聴くとかなりワイルドに轟くのですが、これこそがまさに現場に忠実なサウンド。実際、爆音のようでいて各楽器の輪郭は決して濁りも割れもせず、ワイルドに叫ぶブラッキー・ローレスのザラっとした声も、その粒子までも超リアルに聞こえるようです。MORTORHEADの埃っぽさを思い出していただければ、イメージしやすいのではないでしょうか。
そんな中、観客は熱狂というより、バンドの熱演に圧倒されているかのよう。１曲終わるごとに聞こえる歓声は、「沸き上がる」というより「やっと聞こえた」という感じ。もちろん、演奏中も叫び声を上げているのは分かるのですが、まるでスラッシュ・メタルのようなエネルギーで叩きつける演奏にかき消されてしまうのです。本編プレスDVD「LIVE AT THE LYCEUM, LONDON」は、決定的な名作映像ではありますが、あえて苦言を呈するなら、妙に大きな歓声が被せられていました。「なぜ、そんなことをするんだろう」と不思議でしたが、本作を聴いて納得。バンドの音が凄まじすぎて、被せでもしない限り歓声が聞こえないのです。
日本では数々の規制によって演出も抑え気味でしたが、それでも日活女優を惨殺する「Tormentor」や、血糊を盛大に浴びる「School Daze」など、観客が大いに盛り上がるシーンが記録されています。特に、この日は女性客をステージに上げ、手錠でドラムキットに縛り付けてしまうパフォーマンスまで披露しました。にも関わらず、バンド・サウンドが豪快に鳴り響いて観客の大騒ぎが聞こえてこない。繰り返しますが、本作には過剰入力の割れや歪みは一切ありません。現場が、こういう音だった。客席録音でさえ、歓声をかき消してしまうバンド・サウンド……なんという凄まじいライヴだったのでしょうか。

THE DOORSのオープニングSEから、終演後のグッズ販売アナウンスまで、徹底的に現場の音を拾い抜いた完全実況アルバムです。ショックロックの新たなヒーローが日本を蹂躙していく様を超クリア／超リアルに捉えきったワン＆オンリーの超傑作録音。たとえ、W.A.S.P.にまったく興味がない方でも、これほどのド迫力サウンド、一度は全身に浴びてみる価値がありますよ！
