David Lee Roth’s return in 2007 shook the scene. At that time, the reprinted release of the “first reunion top-class recording” that collectors all over the world were delighted with.
What is imbued in this work is “October 14, 2007 Indianapolis Performance”. It is the thick audience recording. Their reunion tour attracted attention from all over the world, and recording excavations were popular from the beginning. However, just by going around the huge venue, the audience recording was also blurry and boa bois. Contrary to the degree of attention, recordings of masterpiece quality did not come out easily. In such a situation, this work was “Finally out one shot!”. Then, when was such “first name recording” recorded? Let’s check it against the schedule at that time.

This is the first reunion tour that was realized in 2007/2008. This work is the first name recording, so naturally it was born from the beginning “North America # 1”. In our shop, we have been practicing sound reports since the beginning of the tour, so let’s focus on “North America # 1” here and check the collection.

… and it looks like this. Aside from the bulletin titles at the time, there are four regular titles that are still valuable today. This work is the oldest live album of the ninth performance among them. And the quality is certainly masterpiece class. The most wonderful thing is an on and powerful core. The “Gainbridge Field House”, which was the scene, is a stadium with a capacity of 19,000 people, but the only thing that makes you feel its size is the size of the large chorus. The essential performance sound and Dave’s vocals are clear to the outline and have plenty of density. There is no sense of emptiness or distance, and the details are vivid and the sense of separation is outstanding, so I am afraid. I can’t say “Official grade!” Only for the slightly rough tone, but it is also like a full FM sound board.
A full set that can be said to be the ultimate best of the golden age is drawn with such a thick and powerful sound. The next “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH Tour” boldly incorporated daily songs, but this tour was basically fixed (only “Little Guitars” was dropped during the tour). … and it looks like this. This is the “ultimate best” that they chose. It’s not limited to VAN HALEN, but a reunion is something that needs newness and adds rare songs as it continues. However, that is not the first reunion tour. At the stage where we don’t even know whether it will be successful or not, we will bring out our unique characteristics and best weapons in all songs and songs. In other words, the answer that the band itself thinks, “This is us!” The above set is the VAN HALEN version.
Moreover, the performance itself is burning with the initial impulse. It seems that the active band will be in full operation after about 5-6 performances, but this work is the 9th performance. Considering the fact that it is the first tour of the reunion, it is time for the engine to warm up, and you can actually feel the heat from this work.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「2007年10月14日インディアナポリス公演」。その極太オーディエンス録音です。彼らの再結成ツアーは全世界から注目を浴び、開始早々から録音発掘も盛んでした。しかし、巨大会場を巡るだけにオーディエンス録音もボケボケ・ボワボワが乱発。注目度に反し、なかなか名作級クオリティの録音が出てこなかったのです。そんな中で「遂に出た一発！」だったのが本作なのです。では、そんな「最初の名録音」はいつ記録されたのか。当時のスケジュールに照らして確認してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。当時の速報タイトルは別にして、現在でも価値の高い通常タイトルは４作。本作は、その中でも最も古い９公演目のライヴアルバムです。そして、そのクオリティも確かに名作級。何よりも素晴らしいのはオンで力強い芯。現場となった“ゲインブリッジ・フィールドハウス”は１万9000人収容のスタジアムなのですが、そのサイズが感じられるのは大合唱の広さだけ。肝心要の演奏音やデイヴのヴォーカルは輪郭までくっきりしていて密度もたっぷり。スカスカ感も距離感もまるでなく、ディテールも鮮やかでセパレート感もバツグンだから恐れ入る。ややラフな音色だけに「オフィシャル級！」とは申せませんが、それこそいっぱしのFMサウンドボードのようでもあるのです。
そんな極太・強力サウンドで画かれるのは、黄金時代の究極ベストとも言うべきフルセット。次の“A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH Tour”では大胆に日替わり曲を盛り込んでいましたが、このツアーは基本的に固定でした（「Little Guitars」のみ、ツアー途中でセット落ちしました）。その濃厚ぶりを実感するためにも、ここで内容を整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。これこそ、本人達が選んだ「究極ベスト」。VAN HALENに限らない話ですが、再結成というのは続けていくうちに新味が必要になってレア曲を入れるもの。しかし、再結成一発目のツアーにはそれがない。ウケるか否かも分かっていない段階で、全編・全曲で自分たちの持ち味、一番の武器を繰り出す。つまり、バンド自身が考える「これがオレ達だ！」の回答が現れるわけです。上記のセットは、そのVAN HALEN版というわけです。
しかも、演奏自体も初期衝動で燃えまくっている。おおよそ現役バンドは５ー６公演くらいで全力運転になるそうですが、本作は９公演目。再結成の初ツアーという事情を考慮してもエンジンが暖まってきた時期であり、実際本作からもその熱気が十二分に感じ取れるのです。
再結成を果たしつつ、その高揚感がまだ熱く燃え上がっていた2007年のツアー初期。本作は、その熱気を極太サウンドで伝えてくれた「最初の名盤」です。現在では再結成後の記録も大量に残されていますが、一番美味しかった時期の現場をフル体験できる歴史的な逸品。ここに堂々の復刻です。
