Our “WAR Tour” sound board series archived by the highest peak update master. The digital broadcasting master, which can be said to be one of the todomes, is decided to be permanently preserved.
The engraving on this work is “July 3, 1983 Werchter performance”. This is a stereo soundboard recording when he appeared in Belgium’s largest music festival “Rock Werchter”. As anyone who has noticed this article knows, U2’s soundboard albums are being released in rapid succession at our shop these days. This is the outline of “WAR Tour”. Both “Torhout Fes” and “Rock Werchter” are Belgian music festivals and are usually held for two consecutive days. Some people may think of “Rock Werchter” as a 1982 pro shot, but that was the previous “OCTOBER Tour”. This work is the “WAR Tour” version that has appeared for two consecutive years.
By the way, such a show is only the biggest festival in Belgium, and radio broadcasting is also realized. This work is the highest peak version of the FM sound board. Like the previous series, it is a CD version of the best master selected by overseas U2 researchers. In fact, its quality is the highest ever. What is wonderful is master freshness. After all, this work is not an air check at the time of the 1980s, but a recent digital broadcasting version. Therefore, there are no broadcast noise, dubbing marks, or deterioration over time. The sound of the station master has been transferred to a CD without deterioration.
The ultimate Gene Sound is drawn by the young U2 who was burning as a challenger, not the big one in the scene. As mentioned above, it is also the latest of “LORELEY FESTIVAL 1983”, but the set is different, so let’s organize it while comparing.

Although its shortness is a residual flame, the interesting part of music is that it does not simply mean “large is also small”. Everyone was in their early twenties, and because it was a short set, the tension in the whole story wasn’t interrupted and they ran through with all their might. What’s more, the enthusiasm to win more fans than any other band in that short time is concentrated. It radiates a different amount of heat than a normal full concert.

The highlight is “11 O’clock Tick Tock”. Not only did I not hear it at “LORELEY FESTIVAL 1983”, but Jim Kerr of SIMPLE MINDS who was participating in the same festival jumped in and participated on that day. He sang “Someone Somewhere In Summertime”. The audience also responds with a big chorus. You can enjoy the gorgeous co-starring of both males, who later became known as the Lily White Family.
A sound board series in which an ambitious rock band-like performance is poured directly into the brain. The latest bullet is a new masterpiece at the end of “WAR Tour”. “トルホウト・フェス”と“ロック・ウェルフテル”は両方ともベルギーの音楽祭で、２日連続で行われるのが通例です。“ロック・ウェルフテル”と言うと1982年のプロショットを思い出される方もいらっしゃると思いますが、あれは１つ前の“OCTOBER Tour”。本作は、２年連続出演の“WAR Tour”篇なのです。
さて、そんなショウはベルギー最大のフェスだけあってラジオ放送も実現。本作は、そのFMサウンドボードの最高峰版。これまでのシリーズと同様に海外のU2研究家が選定したベスト・マスターからCD化された銘品なのです。実際、そのクオリティは過去最高。なにが素晴らしいと言ったらマスター鮮度。何しろ、本作は80年代当時のエアチェックなどではなく、近年のデジタル放送バージョンなのです。そのため、放送ノイズやダビング痕、経年劣化の類はゼロ。局マスターのサウンドが劣化なしにCDに移し替えられているのです。
そんな究極ジェネ・サウンドで描かれるのは、シーンの大物ではなく、挑戦者として燃えたぎっていた若きU2。上記のように『LORELEY FESTIVAL 1983』の直近でもありますが、セットは異なりますので比較しながら整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。フェス出演なのでショート・セットでもありましたが、さらに放送枠に沿って２曲「Surrender」「”40″」もカットされていました。その短さが残炎ではあるものの、シンプルに「大は小を兼ねる」とならないのが音楽の面白いところ。ただでさえ全員が20代前半の若さ爆発な上に、ショートセットだから全編緊張感が途切れず全力疾走のまま駆け抜ける。しかも、その短い時間に他のどのバンドよりもファンを獲得しようという熱気も濃縮。通常のフルコンサートとは次元の違う熱量を発散しているのです。

中でも聴きどころなのが「11 O’clock Tick Tock」。単に『LORELEY FESTIVAL 1983』で聴けなかったというだけでなく、この日は同じフェスに参加していたSIMPLE MINDSのジム・カーが飛び入り参加。「Someone Somewhere In Summertime」を熱唱。観客も大合唱で応えます。後にリリーホワイト・ファミリーとして知られる事になる両雄の豪華共演が楽しめるのです。

The main press CD is a sound board album that records digital broadcasting with zero deterioration. It is a decisive board that the big enthusiasm of young U2 who is about to come to Japan for the first time of the legend is injected into the brain. As I mentioned in the commentary, unfortunately the broadcast was not a full show, but an incomplete board edited according to the frame. Therefore, we have decided to include an audience recording that allows you to experience 100% of the actual scene of the new masterpiece as a bonus.
That’s why this work is imbued with the same “Rock Werchter performance on July 3, 1983” as the main press CD. It is the best audience recording that vacuum packed the whole story. Of course, it doesn’t sound like a sound board that can be mistaken for a main press CD, but the core is extremely thick and reaches straight, and the details are super clear to the finest parts. Although the cheers are fresh, the performance sound and singing voice are extremely tight recordings. The reason is probably the venue. The site of “Rock Werchter” is an outdoor festival held on a special stage in a large open field, and it has an atmosphere like Donington Park in the UK. For that reason, there are no walls or ceilings that reflect the sound, and the output sound emitted from the PA is directly picked up.

It is a real album that you can fully experience the enthusiasm of young U2 that you could enjoy on the press CD with the on-site sound. Not only the length, but also the best sound and the realistic experience can be surpassed even by the stereo sound board if you are not good at it. A luxurious set that even comes with such a transcendental bonus. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

……と、このようになっています。カットされていたのは２曲。どちらも『WAR』の新曲で、ショウ中盤の「Surrender」とアンコール・ラストの「”40″」でした。さらに「I Will Follow」の後にはボノが先導して巻き起こるバースデー・ソングの大合唱（誰の誕生日かと思ったら、ドラムテックのトム・ムラーリーだったようです）も収録しています。
特に美味しいのは「”40″」。「11 O’Clock Tick Tock」ではジム・カーのゲスト参加が聴きどころでしたが、「”40″」では途中からEURYTHMICSのアニー・レノックスとデイヴ・スチュワートが揃って飛び入り。さらに豪華な競演が実現しているのです。
思わず聴きどころ優先でお話ししてしまいましたが、本作はそんな美味しいフルショウを伝えるサウンドも極上。もちろん、本編プレスCDと間違えるようなサウンドボードっぽいサウンドではないのですが、芯は極太でまっすぐに届き、ディテールも微細部まで超クリア。喝采こそ生々しいものの、演奏音も歌声も猛烈にタイトな名録音なのです。その要因は、恐らく会場。“ロック・ウェルフテル”の現場というのは広い原っぱの特設ステージで行われる野外フェスでして、英国で言うところのドニントン・パークのような雰囲気。それだけに音を反射する壁も天井もなく、PAから吐き出される出力音をダイレクトに拾っているのです。

プレスCDでも楽しめた若きU2の大熱演を現場サウンドでフル体験できるリアル・アルバムです。長さだけでなく、極上サウンドとリアルな体験感の両立は下手をするとステレオ・サウンドボードさえ凌駕しかねない。そんな超絶ボーナスまで付属する豪華セット。どうぞ、併せて存分にお楽しみください。
