Stratovarius / Nagoya 1998 Dat Master / 2CDR / Shades
Live at Nagoya Club Quattro, Nagoya, Japan 8th December 1998
In 1998, STRATOVARIUS returned to Japan after completing the masterpieces “VISIONS” and “DESTINY”. An original recording that allows you to experience the scene is here.
“December 8, 1998 Club Quattro performance” is imbued in this work. It is a very thick audience recording that vacuum packed the whole story. With the participation of Jens Johansson / Jörg Michael, the “Golden Five” came to Japan in 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2003. This work is the second record. First of all, let’s look back on the schedule of coming to Japan at that time and check the position of the show.
・December 7: IMP Hall
・December 8th: Nagoya Club Quattro ← This work
・December 10: Shibuya O-EAST
・December 11: Shibuya O-EAST
A total of 4 performances. This week, ANGRA’s same title “NAGOYA 1998 DAT MASTER (Shades 1683)” will be released at the same time, but in fact, both men’s schedules are covered. This work was also the day after the ANGRA edition (I think it would have become a legend in the history of Melopawa if you made it a coupling tour for both men).
In any case, this work recorded at such a site is exactly the best sound with “super”. Since it is a DAT master excavated from the same route as the ANGRA edition, there is no doubt that it is an audience recording, but the sound that flows out says, “But you can hear it on the sound board?” Anyway, the core is very thick and close contact. There is no sense of distance at all, and even if you listen carefully with headphones, you can not perceive the hall noise component. If you say it’s a club-scale closed room feeling, it may be true, but if anything, it’s better to call it a synchronized feeling and immersive feeling like there’s a stage in your head. Although the snare has an audience feel, it also stops the tone. It overflows with a richly colored vivid feeling like a sound board directly connected to the desk.
A full show like a sequel to the official “VISIONS OF EUROPE” is depicted with such a close-fitting sound. Of course, since the tour is different, the set list is also different. Let’s sort it out by making a comparison.
● Destiny (5 songs)
・Destiny (★)/No Turning Back (★★)/4000 Rainy Nights (★)/Anthem Of The World (★★)/S.O.S. (★)
● Classics (10 songs)
・Force Dimension: Distant Skies/Against The Wind
・Episode: Speed Of Light/Father Time/Will The Sun Rise?/Forever
・Visions: Paradise/Forever Free/Black Diamond/The Kiss Of Judas
* Note: “★” marks are songs that could not be heard in “VISIONS OF EUROPE”. In particular, the “★★” marks are limited songs only for this tour.
… and it looks like this. The initial repertoire is completely abolished, and the four works after joining Timo Cotipelto are concentrated and reduced. Classics is limited to the extraction of “VISIONS OF EUROPE”, and a large amount of new songs of “DESTINY” are introduced there. And the new song is delicious. It is solidified in the first half to determine the color of the show, but especially the two songs “No Turning Back” and “Anthem Of The World” are limited songs that are played only in the “DESTINY Tour”.
It is truly appropriate to call it “next to VISIONS OF EUROPE”. Exploding the band’s potential, which has entered its heyday, and showing off plenty of precious songs from “DESTINY”. You can fully experience such a delicious visit to Japan with the sound board barefoot extreme sound. A masterpiece from Japan that boasts to the world, a live album that embodies the far north of melodic power metal. Please fully realize the scene of the golden age with this work.
★ Superb audience recording of “December 8, 1998 Club Quattro Performance”. Anyway, the core is very thick and close contact. You can enjoy the feeling of synchronism and immersion as if there is a stage in your head.
