Slayer / The Scaglione Days 1987 / 2CDR+1DVDR / Shades
A great drummer who worked on “POWER AND PAIN” of WHIPLASH, a charismatic version of Pure Slash: Tony Skaglion. Introducing SLAYER’s sound board and superb view video set that welcomed him as a phantom second-generation drummer.
The four performances of the glorious “REIGN IN BLOOD Tour” are included in this work. 2 full soundboard performances of “Corpus Christi performance on February 19, 1987 / Salt Lake City performance on February 28” and super performance of “Tronto performance on January 27, 1987 / Cleeveland performance on February 9” It is a superb view audience shot. The biggest points of this work are “quality that is not a hamper” and “SLAYER with scablion”. It is not known when Skagrion participated, so let’s take a look at the schedule at that time.
● 1986
・ February 1st-March 10th: North America # 1 (3 performances)
・ August 12: New York performance
“October 7” REIGN IN BLOOD “released”
・ October 17th-December 7th: North America # 2 (30 performances)
《Dave Lombardo withdrawal → Tony Skaglion participation》
● 1987
・ January 22nd-March 10th: North America # 3 (24 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
《Return to Dave Lombardo》
・ April 10 + 11: Brooklyn (2 performances)
・ April 17-May 20: Europe (26 performances)
・ June 5: Los Angeles performance
“December” SOUTH OF HEAVEN “production started”
This is SLAYER in the era of the historical masterpiece “REIGN IN BLOOD”. If you omit the small stage, the tour will be big with 3 legs of “North America # 2”, “North America # 3” and “Europe”. Of these, Skaglion was the only drummer in 24 performances of “North America # 3”. This work is a 3-disc set that can complete the sound board recording and video left at that rare time with the highest quality. Let’s introduce the live album and the video individually.
[DISC 1/2: Full Sound Board 2 Performances] The main part of this work is the full sound board for 2 performances. It is a “official substitute” for the Skaaglion era, which did not leave an official work. First of all, DISC 1 contains the recording “February 19th Corpus Christi performance (16th performance of North America # 3)” which became popular on the gift board, but this work is an upgrade discovered after that. -Use the master. “Postmortem”, which had a problem with one channel, is also seamlessly beautiful. It is a sound board album that is the most promising candidate for “REIGN IN BLOOD Tour No. 1” even if it is a scamglion era.In addition, DISC 2’s “February 28 Salt Lake City Performance (21st performance)” sound board is also the highest peak ever. The recording itself has been known to collectors for a long time, but the sound with hiss noise is not good, and if the pitch is messy, “Epidemic” is also lacking. The phrase “better than a bad soundboard” is often used to compliment audience recordings, and it’s typical of that “bad SBD.” However, this work is different. Uses the upgrade master excavated in recent years. There is a (momentary) lack in “At Dawn They Sleep”, so it’s not as good as DISC 1 which is a candidate for the tour title, but you can enjoy a full show with a clear sound that has been reborn as before.
Then, let’s check out the full set of “REIGN IN BLOOD Tour” that you can enjoy on the highest peak sound board here.
● Reign in Blood (8 songs, 16 takes)
・ Raining Blood / Reborn (★) / Postmortem (★) / Criminally Insane (★) / Angel Of Death / Epidemic (★) / Altar Of Sacrifice / Jesus Saves
● Others (4 songs, 7 takes)
・ Show No Mercy: Die By The Sword / Evil Has No Boundaries (★)
・ Hell Awaits: Necrophiliac (★) / At Dawn They Sleep (Salt Lake City only)
* Note: The “★” mark is a song that cannot be heard in the official “DECADE OF AGGRESSION”. [DISC 3: 2 types of super strong audience shots] Although I was full enough even with 2 full sound board performances, there are still 2 superb images with “super” left in the scablion era. This is about half of the show, but it’s an audience shot that makes people say, “If you want to watch the REIGN IN BLOOD tour, this is it!” DISC 3 is coupled with the two images.
The first half of DISC 3 was “January 27th Toronto performance (4th performance)”, a masterpiece video staring at the center of the stage with zero obstruction. The image that zooms all the highlights with zero obstruction is amazing, but the sound is also intense. Actually, the best separate recording is synchronized, but I was surprised because this is as good as the DISC 1-2 sound board. If it was a full show with this, there is no doubt that it was made into a permanent storage press.
The last half of DISC 3 was really leftovers …… so it was amazing. It is the strongest impact image taken at “February 9th Cleveland performance (13th performance)”. The impact is “super-close”. The picture was taken from near the front on the left side of the stage, and Jeff Hanneman’s facial expression and fingertips are super clear and clear up to the guitar strings. Since the head of the front row is reflected in some places, it is not mistaken for a pro shot, but the do-up is completely one angle of the pro shot. It’s even called a “Hannemann Shot” among enthusiasts (of course, Tom Araya and Kerry King can also be enjoyed in a fairly large copy, though through Jeff. It’s a shame that you can hardly see the scablion!).
Finally, let’s organize the set that can be seen with these two superb shots.
● Reign in Blood (8 songs, 10 takes)
・ Criminally Insane / Angel Of Death / Epidemic (2 takes) / Altar Of Sacrifice / Jesus Saves / Necrophobic (*: 2 takes) / Reborn / Postmortem
● Others (4 songs, 5 takes)
・ Show No Mercy: Black Magic (*)
・ Hunting the Chapel: Chemical Warfare (*: 2 takes) / Captor Of Sin (*)
・ Hell Awaits: Hell Awaits (*)
* Note: “*” Marks are songs that cannot be heard with the DISC 1-2 sound board sound source.
WHIPLASH’s “POWER AND PAIN” was a charismatic board that embodied the charm of slash because of the presence of Skaglion. This work is a super-decision board that acts as the “official substitute” of SLAYER who gets the assault drumming and explodes. And, in fact, even without Skaglion, it is a 3-disc set that is also the highest peak set of “REIGN IN BLOOD Tour”. Whether it’s precious or fulfilling, please enjoy the super entertainment masterpiece, which is an absolute work of SLAYER’s entire history!
★ Phantom drummer: SLAYER’s definitive set with Tony Skaglion. 2 full soundboard performances of “Corpus Christi performance on February 19, 1987 / Salt Lake City performance on February 28” and super performance of “Tronto performance on January 27, 1987 / Cleeveland performance on February 9” It is a superb view audience shot. The full SBD for 2 performances is the highest peak board that the upgrade master has been meticulously refined, and is an official substitute for the scablion era. The AUD video 2 performance is a super-superb view with zero obstruction (Toronto) and a professional shot-class super-up video (Cleveland). All of them are the best set that will be the highest peak of “REIGN IN BLOOD Tour” even if the preciousness of Skagrion etc. is lost.
