元プロコル・ハルムのシンガー＆キーボーディスト、ゲイリー・ブルッカーが参加し、バンド・メンバー全員がイギリス人だった時期に行なわれたクラプトンの81年のジャパン・ツアーから、これまでごく少数のCD-Rブートが流通するに留まっていた12月９日の最終公演がファクトリー・プレス２CDで登場した。既発盤はテープ・トレーダー間でワールドワイドに流通するオーディエンス・ソースから制作されていたが、本作のマスターは本レーベルが独自のネットワークで入手した初公開のオリジナル・オーディエンス録音の完全収録カセット・マスターである。当時とすればサウンド・バランスに優れた拡がりのあるモノラル録音で、かなりクリアでもあり、新宿厚生年金会館の適度なキャパシティを感じさせるストレートな音質だ。「Another Ticket」の曲前など、会場に数人いた外国人のコールが煩わしい箇所もあるが、曲自体には影響はないため微小な問題だろう。この年前半のクラプトンは、アルコール中毒から来た内臓疾患で緊急入院するという一大事を経て９月に復帰したばかりだった。それだけに体調の完全回復が心配されたのだが、「After Midnight」での切れのあるソロ、「Motherless Children」のドライブするスライド・プレイ、ブルース・メドレーでの圧巻のパフォーマンスを聴けば、それも杞憂に終わったと言える。当時の新作『ANOTHER TICKET』からのナンバー「Another Ticket」、ゲイリーをフィーチャーした名曲「A Whiter Shade Of Pale」でのダブル・キーボードによるしっとりとした演奏も聴きどころの一つ。また「Blow Wind Blow」でも「ブルース・マスター」クラプトンの面目躍如たるプレイが聴ける。ブルース・メドレーではアカペラで歌い出すという珍しいシーンがある。これはクラプトンの全キャリアにおいても聴いたことのないものだ。アンコールの定番「Further On Up The Road」の前には、この後83年～84年にかけてよくプレイすることになる「Sad Sad Day」を２分ほどプレイし、いきなり演奏をブレイクさせて「Further～」に繋いでいる。この後半にはリズムを変えて「Bright Light, Big City」も演奏している。めったに聴けない非常に面白い展開である。さらに面白いのは「Cocaine」がテンポ・ダウンしたジャム風のアレンジで完奏されていることだ。また「Layla」の中間のソロでも、4’22″秒あたりで突然スライドにチェンジしており、最後にはまたシングル・ノートのソロに戻している。スライド・ソロもそれほどテンションの高いものではない。どうやら「Cocaine」あたりからツアーの疲れがどっと出て来たのではないかというような「ヨレ具合」であるが、それまでのテンションの高いパフォーマンスとのギャップも楽しめる音源である。アルコール中毒存続中のクラプトンのリアリティを伝える初登場優良マスターによる81年日本公演最終日。マニアは必聴と言える。
