This masterpiece was released more than 5 years ago, starting with the radio broadcast “PARIS 1970 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD”, followed by the audience’s “FRANKFURT 1970” and “MALMO 1970″, and the wonderful releases of the Stones’ 1970 European tour. I’m sure there are many enthusiasts who are reminded of this. That is “STUTTGART 1970” released in 2016. Although it is a vintage audience sound source that is typical of this tour, it is a masterpiece that became a hot topic and quickly sold out because of its upper feel that surpassed the sound sources of the same day that had been circulating until then.
Up until then, VGP and DAC had been unearthing sound sources for Stuttgart, but the former had poor sound quality, “EUROPEA TOUR STUTTGART 1970,” and the latter, although easier to listen to, did not include “Let It Rock.” The title “GERMANY 1970” was supplemented by the same song from VGP source. In total, the latter won by a landslide, and the DAC board became the decisive presence for the Stuttgart 70.
However, in 2016, the 1st Gen version of the DAC source suddenly appeared on the internet. Not only was the sound quality more natural, but most of all, it was discovered that “Let It Rock”, which was not included on the DAC board, was actually included, which surprised enthusiasts all over the world. . “STUTTGART 1970” was the one that quickly released this perfect upper version.

Although it was a masterpiece, there were some parts where it wasn’t perfect because it was released quickly, and there were some skips and noises that seemed to have been mixed in when burning the CD-R. It was also an item that still had a lot of room for improvement. Therefore, for the long-awaited re-release of Stuttgart, we asked GRAF ZEPPELIN to overhaul it. He carried out a thorough restoration to the point of re-cleaning the sound source from scratch.
First of all, we have solved the sound skipping that appeared like a hole at 6:02 of “Sympathy For The Devil”, which was pointed out in various quarters when it was released in 2016. Furthermore, the crackling sound like CD-R burning error noise that occurred around 4:46 of “Love In Vain” was also eliminated. In particular, the skipping sound of the former was a major blemish when it was released in 2016, which was well received, so I guarantee that you can listen to it with confidence this time without such defects.
Not only that, but this time too, we have thoroughly adjusted the wow-hurra state and sudden pitch drop that are characteristic of vintage audiences, which “GRAF ZEPPELIN” is good at. In particular, the problem with “Midnight Rambler” where the pitch was low has been properly restored. And after all, the situation where the sound image was extremely biased to the left throughout, which was a big problem from the time the sound source was distributed, was restored to normal monaural this time. Due to this careful restoration, the level of stability is such that you can tell the difference from the previously released version with just one listen.

When I listen to this solid and stable monaural sound, I am once again overwhelmed by Mick’s sharp performance on this day. The 70 year version of “Roll Over Beethoven”, which is cool no matter how many times you listen to it, is a great performance on this day as well, but more than that, Mick awakens in the middle of “Sympathy For The Devil”. The scene where Taylor responds splendidly when he incites the band with a tremendous shout seems to symbolize the sharp performance of this day.
From then on, there is no doubt that Mick was shaken up on this day, as even the relaxed “Love In Vain” screamed like never before. Mick has been singing for 70 years, easily performing hyper-singing songs day after day, but on this day, his fierceness stands out.
“Live With Me”, which starts with Keith’s guitar intro, which was another highlight of the 1970 tour repertoire, is another high-tension performance, and the intense performance by the band and Mick is wonderful. In the end, Mick finished singing “Honky Tonk Women” and let out an Indian roar. The 1st Gen version of Vintage Audience, which captures the unique charm of Europe in the 1970s, centering on his extremely high-spirited self, has been reborn through thorough restoration by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”!

ラジオ放送の『PARIS 1970 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD』から始まってオーディエンスの『FRANKFURT 1970』と『MALMO 1970』とストーンズ1970年ヨーロッパツアーの素晴らしいリリースが続いた中で今から5年以上前にリリースされた名盤を思い起こされたマニアも少なくないのではないでしょうか。それが2016年リリースの『STUTTGART 1970』。いかにもこのツアーらしいビンテージ・オーディエンスな音源でありながら、それまで出回っていた同日の音源を凌駕するアッパー感が話題を呼んであっという間にSold Outとなってしまった名盤です。
シュツットガルトはそれまでVGPやDACがそれぞれに音源を発掘してくれていたのですが、前者は音質厳しめな『EUROPEA TOUR STUTTGART 1970』、後者はそれより聞きやすいながらも「Let It Rock」未収録につき同曲だけVGPソースから補填された『GERMANY 1970』というタイトル。トータルでは後者が圧勝ということでシュツットガルト70に関してはDAC盤が決定的な存在となっていたのでした。
ところが2016年になって突如ネット上に姿を現したのはDACソースの1st Genバージョン。ナチュラル感を増した音質だけでなく、なによりDAC盤に未収録だった「Let It Rock」が実はしっかり収録されていたという事実が判明して世界中のマニアを驚かせる結果となったのです。そんな文句なしのアッパー版を速攻リリースしてくれたのが『STUTTGART 1970』でした。

そんな名盤ではありましたが速攻リリースゆえに攻め切れていない部分もあり、音飛びやCD-R焼き時に混入してしまったと思われるノイズなどが散見されたのです。今となっては改善の余地が多く残されたアイテムでもあった。そこで待ち望まれたシュツットガルト再リリースに当たってはオーバーホールを「GRAF ZEPPELIN」に依頼。音源を一から洗い直すほどの徹底的なレストアを敢行してくれたのです。
まず2016年リリース時にも各方面で指摘されていた「Sympathy For The Devil」の6:02のところでボコッと空いてしまった穴のように生じていた音飛びを解消。さらに「Love In Vain」の4:46辺りに生じていたCD-R焼きエラーノイズのようなパチパチ音も今回は払拭。特に前者の音飛びに関してはせっかく好評を呼んだ2016年のリリース時における大きな汚点でしたので、そんな欠損もなく今回は安心して聞き込めることを保証します。
それだけではありません、今回も「GRAF ZEPPELIN」が得意とするビンテージ・オーディエンス特有のワウフラ状態や突然のピッチ下降も徹底的にアジャスト。中でも「Midnight Rambler」でピッチが低くなってしまっていた問題もきっちりとレストア。そして何と言っても音源流通時からの大きな問題であった、全体を通して音像が左へ極端に偏った状態も今回は正常なモノラルへと修復。こうした念入りなレストアによって、既発盤との違いは一聴して解るほどのレベルの安定感。

このどっしりとした安定のモノラルで聞くと、改めてこの日のミックのキレまくりパフォーマンスに圧倒されます。何度聞いてもカッコいい「Roll Over Beethoven」70年バージョンはこの日も素晴らしい出来栄えですが、それ以上に「Sympathy For The Devil」の中盤でミックが覚醒。凄まじいシャウトでバンドを煽るとテイラーが見事に応える場面はこの日のキレッキレな演奏ぶりを象徴しているかのよう。
以降はゆったりとした「Love In Vain」ですらいつもにないような叫び声をあげるなど、この日のミックが振り切れているのは疑いようもない。ただでさえ連日でハイパーな歌いっぷりをやすやすとキメていた70年のミックではありますが、この日はその中でも飛び抜けた壮絶さが際立ちます。
70年ツアー・レパートリーもう一つの目玉であったキースのギターイントロから始まる「Live With Me」がまたハイテンションな演奏で、バンドとミックの拮抗した激しすぎる演奏が素晴らしい。挙句の果てにミックは「Honky Tonk Women」を歌い終えてインディアンの雄叫びを上げる始末。あまりにもハイテンションな彼を中心とした70年ヨーロッパならではの魅力を捉え切ったビンテージ・オーディエンスの1st Genバージョンが「GRAF ZEPPELIN」の徹底したレストアによって生まれ変わりました！
