Queensryche / Tokyo Koseinenkin Kaikan 1989 / 4CDR / Shades
Koseinenkin Kaikan, Tokyo, Japan 4th & 5th May 1989
QUEENSRYCHE in 1989, who sent out the historical daimyo board “OPERATION: MINDCRIME” and came to Japan for the first time in five years. A gorgeous live set that allows you to experience the scene is here.
This work contains two performances at one venue. It is a 4-disc set with a full audience recording of “May 4th / 5th, 1989: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall”. Speaking of returning to Japan in 1989, the sound board press masterpiece “NIPPON SEINENKAN 1989 (Zodiac 365)” is a big staple at our shop. First of all, let’s check the positional relationship with this work in the schedule at that time.
・May 4: Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan ←★This work DISC 1-2★
・May 5: Tokyo Kōsei Nenkin Kaikan ←★This work DISC 3-4★
・May 6: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall
・May 7 “NIPPON SEINENKAN 1989”
・May 8: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall
A total of 5 performances. It was a somewhat biased content of Tokyo 4 consecutive performances, and the 4 performances were also balanced with “Employees’ Pension 3 times + Youth Hall 1 time”. The soundboard album “NIPPON SEINENKAN 1989” is a one-time performance at the Nippon Seinenkan, and this work is a live album of the first two performances out of three at the Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall.
Both of these two performances are excellent recordings. First of all, it is “May 4 (DISC 1-2)” on the first day, but this is a new recording that has recently appeared. This is already a vivid clear sound anyway. The crystal-clear core that penetrates the air is beautifully straight into the ear, and the details are clear. And above all, a clear outline. Even the smallest details are extremely sharp, and they stand out like flying laser beams without blurring or turbidity.
The vividness and directness of the 80’s audience were beyond the common sense. Certainly, I can feel the nuances of the snare sound, but that’s because I deliberately listened analytically to write the commentary. As a music album, it has the same listening response as an FM soundboard … or should I say, whether I am listening to SBD or AUD now, it is a beautiful clear sound that makes me stupid to think about it.
And it’s amazing that they didn’t lose on the second day, “May 5th (DISC 3-4)”, in terms of clearing. This is a famous sound source that has been known to collectors for a long time, and although it is a type in which the heavy bass is slightly spoiled from the first day (DISC 1-2), the brightness of the mid-high range and the wonderful separate feeling are still great. If the first day (DISC 1-2) is expressed as well-balanced “FM soundboard-like”, should this work be called “earmoni-like”? Although it is biased in terms of balance, it is still a clear sound away from the audience (By the way, this recording has also been misunderstood as “first day (May 4th)”. Correctly it is the second day, the true first day The performance and MC are different from DISC 1-2).
With such crystal sound, the potential of the band that created “OPERATION: MINDCRIME” exploded at two full-show performances. Although the press masterpiece “NIPPON SEINENKAN 1989” was a sound board, it was not a complete recording. Let’s organize the full set while comparing here.
– Early stage (8 songs)
・The Warning: NM 156/No Sanctuary
・Fire Legend: Screaming In Digital/Surgical Strike (★)/The Whisper/Walk In The Shadows/Chemical Youth (We Are Rebellion)/London
Operation: Mind Crime (12 excerpts)
・I Remember Now/Anarchy-X/Revolution Calling/Operation: Mindcrime/Speak/Spreading The Disease/The Mission/The Needle Lies/Electric Requiem/Breaking The Silence/I Don’t Believe In Love/Eyes Of A Stranger
● Encore (3 songs)
・Queen’s Lychee: Queen Of The Reich/The Lady Wore Black
・The Warning: : Take Hold Of The Flame(★)
*Note: “★” indicates songs that could not be heard on the soundboard album “NIPPON SEINENKAN 1989”.
… and it looks like this. The show is divided into three parts: “early stage”, “MINDCRIME section”, and “encore”, and “early stage” shows six songs from “RAGE FOR ORDER”. In the “MINDCRIME section”, the majority of the masterpiece concept is played while omitting the three songs “Suite Sister Mary”, “Waiting for 22” and “My Empty Room”. (Naturally) the “RAGE FOR ORDER” number cannot be heard in the official video “LIVE IN TOKYO” of the first visit to Japan, and especially “Chemical Youth (We Are Rebellion)”, “London” and “No Sanctuary” are valuable is.
The first day of the new excavation (DISC 1-2), which boasts surprisingly high sound quality, and the second day of the tradition that has been loved for many years (DISC 3-4). It is a gorgeous 4-disc set that vacuum-packed QUEENSRYCHE in its prime with two famous recordings. It goes without saying that the soundboard album “NIPPON SEINENKAN 1989” is an absolute board, but this work, which allows you to enjoy the “full experience” that could not be achieved even with a masterpiece, is definitely a decision board. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
★ A 4-disc set of the best audience recordings of “May 4th/5th, 1989: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall”. The first day “May 4th (DISC 1-2)” is a new recording that has recently appeared, and the second day “May 5th (DISC 3-4)” is a famous recording that has been known for a long time. Especially on the first day, the “FM sound board class” was well-balanced, and on the second day, it was the “ear monitor class”, which specialized in mid-to-high sounds but did not lose in clarity. “Surgical Strike” and “Take Hold Of The Flame”, which could not be heard on the soundboard masterpiece “NIPPON SEINENKAN 1989”, can be enjoyed with plenty of delicious full show 2 performances.
