1990’s QUEENSRYCHE evoked the world by completely reproducing the historical masterpiece of the concept album. Introducing a new masterpiece that can be called “100% on-site operation: MINDCRIME”.
What is inscribed in this work is “Paris performance on November 30, 1990”. This is a masterpiece audience recording recorded in one act of “BUILDING EMPIRES Tour”. If you’re thinking, “Huh? Wasn’t Paris from BUILDING EMPIRES in?”, you’re right. At our store, we previously introduced the masterpiece “PARIS 1991 (Shades 1411)”, but this work is a completely different performance. However, it is not completely unrelated. In order to explain the circumstances around that, let’s first review the tour schedule at that time.

This is the overall picture of the concept tour of the century “BUILDING EMPIRES Tour”. The aforementioned “PARIS 1991” was the record of “Europe #2” at the end, but this work was at the beginning of the tour, about 3 months after the album was released. This was the 10th concert of “Europe #1”. Speaking of the beginning of the tour, there is also the familiar Hammersmith performance sound board in the official boat truck, but this work is also two weeks later.
Even if you understand that it takes place in a completely different time period than “PARIS 1991,” how does it relate to this work? That’s a recording artist. Yes, this work was recorded by the same “Stephane” as “PARIS 1991”. It is a signature item that was digitized directly from the original master. This person was a recorder who made a large number of famous recordings in continental Europe in the late 80’s and early 90’s, including IRON MAIDEN’s press masterpiece “DEFINITIVE PARIS 1993 (Zodiac 469)” and SCORPIONS’ “PARIS 1990 (Shades)”. 1737)”, MOTLEY CRUE’s “PARIS 1989 (Shades 1761)”, and BON JOVI’s “PARIS 1993 (Shades 1842)”, he has released shocking masterpieces one after another, and is currently one of the top performers in the HR/HM collector world. It is the eye of the typhoon.
And this work is also a new masterpiece that makes the golden signboard shine even more. I wouldn’t mistake it for a sound board in terms of tone, but the listening experience is comparable. The on-core jumps directly into your ears, giving you a clear outline and separate feel. The atmosphere is clear and transparent, and although the sound of the hall may add to the reality of the scene, it does not muddy or cloud the details. To describe it to our customers, it has a beautiful sound similar to “Parisian Kinney” or “France’s Crazy S.”
Such Stephane sound could be enjoyed in “PARIS 1991”, but this work is significantly different in terms of the number of songs and volume. The previous work was a shortened set as part of the festival tour “MONSTERS OF ROCK Tour”, but this work is a magnificent full set. It also realizes a complete reproduction of the famous album “OPERATION: MINDCRIME”. Finally, let’s organize the full set while comparing it with its sister works.

そんな本作に吹き込まれているのは「1990年11月30日パリ公演」。“BUILDING EMPIRES Tour”の一幕で記録された大傑作オーディエンス録音です。「あれ？　BUILDING EMPIRESのパリって出てなかったっけ？」と思われた方は鋭い。当店では、以前に名作『PARIS 1991（Shades 1411）』をご紹介しましたが、本作はまったくの別公演です。ただし、まったく無関係というわけでもない。その辺の事情をご説明するためにも、まずは当時のツアー・スケジュールからおさらいしておきましょう。

これが世紀のコンセプト・ツアー“BUILDING EMPIRES Tour”の全体像。前述の『PARIS 1991』は終盤「欧州#2」の記録だったわけですが、本作はアルバム発売から約３ヶ月というツアー序盤。「欧州#1」の10公演目にあたるコンサートでした。ツアー序盤と言えば、公式ボートラでお馴染みのハマースミス公演サウンドボードもありますが、本作はその２週間後でもあります。
『PARIS 1991』と全然違う時期なのはご理解頂けたとして、ではどう本作と関係があるのか？　それは録音家。そう、本作は『PARIS 1991』と同じ「Stephane」氏の録音。その大元マスターからダイレクトにデジタル化された銘品なのです。この人物は80年代末/90年代初頭の大陸ヨーロッパで名録音を大量に残した録音家で、IRON MAIDENのプレス名盤『DEFINITIVE PARIS 1993（Zodiac 469）』を筆頭にSCORPIONSの『PARIS 1990（Shades 1737）』やMOTLEY CRUE『PARIS 1989（Shades 1761）』、BON JOVIの『PARIS 1993（Shades 1842）』等々、衝撃的な名録音を次から次へと発表し、現在HR/HM系コレクター界の台風の目となっているのです。
そして、本作も金看板を一層輝かせる新名盤。音色的にサウンドボードと間違えたりはしませんが、聴き応えは遜色なし。オンな芯がダイレクト感たっぷりに耳元へ飛びこみ、輪郭もセパレート感もくっきり。空気感もクリアに透き通っており、ホール鳴りが現場のリアリティを醸すことはあっても、ディテールを濁らせたり曇らせることはない。当店のお客様向けに表現しますと「パリのキニー」「フランスのCrazy S.」と言った感じの美音なのです。
そんなStephaneサウンドは『PARIS 1991』でも味わえましたが、本作は曲数ボリュームの面で大きく違う。前作はフェスツアー“MONSTERS OF ROCK Tour”の一環で短縮セットでしたが、本作は堂々のフルセット。大名盤『OPERATION: MINDCRIME』の完全再現も実現しているのです。最後に、姉妹作と比較しつつそのフルセットを整理しておきましょう。
